Metatauta– during November, I believe, it was Ciren that first suggested writing down the names of all of us joining together on a back-to-back Fasting Days Challenge, then slipping that piece of paper in her pocket to read during the day for mental support.
Since then, whenever we throw in an impromptu b2b fasting challenge we call the group Pocket Fasters or Pocketeers.
Sorry, I posted my list before reading the full page 25. Adding Coda!

Day 13 (again) – Colorado USA — FD
Tomorrow is my first day back to work after my lengthy Medical Leave. Feeling quite ambivalent about it.
On one hand, I’m looking forward to returning b/c works add structure to my week. And Fasting is much easier when I keep busy at work, away from pantry & fridge. It’ll be so nice seeing my favorite co-workers & friends again! Plus, I feel more useful & contributing when working.
On the other hand, I was getting SO MUCH done at home. Finally tackling projects on my To-Do List. And getting back to my hobbies. Love to sew & it was lovely having the free time to make new (smaller sized!) clothes. I think I will really enjoy retirement when I finally get there! 😀
Day 13, USA, FD
How perfect is this for a fast day: a morning at the dentist whereas I am all numbed out now and nauseous. Yes — sweet timing, indeed; especially that it’s a THIRD snow day in a row where kids are home bound. Last thing I can think of with two swollen lips and a sore mouth is eating food. I will try and drink extra water, though. And have my one 500 cal meal at dinner time. I am realizing SALT is a major factor in this gig. Sometimes I put a snug ring on, just to remind myself to keep away from the salt during this February challenge (and beyond). As a woman hovering around the 50 yard line, I realize salt is like an anchor on my food — keeping it weighted down inside. Much lighter without it. So, that Indian food I love to just heat up as my one meal on FD will have to weight (lol!!!) WAIT. (no pun was intended there, trust me). God Bless!
Day 13, UK, FD.
I can’t keep track of all the posts I’ve misssd since yesterday – finding comments hugely encouraging.
Have a good day all. I plan another FD on Friday but am waiting for plans to be confirmed for Wednesday evening and if they are cancelled, I’ll fast Wednesday instead. My fifth FD is passing by without challenge which is good (so far).
Have a good day all – I’m convinced that being part of this challenge is helping me.
Day 13 | FD | Bucks UK
@mamacat good luck with the interview
To all pocket fasters Good Luck!
@happymargo best wishes with returning to work
The sun is out today, I’m waiting on my girlies to arrive to go for a walk together, lots of energy to burn and gassing and walking!
Well done to those with successful losses… everyone else (including myself) Keep on..keeping on…
Day 13, London, UK FD
Liquids only today (water and bone broth) finding these easier than constantly looking forward to my evening 500cal meal.
@mamacat………….sending the good luck vibes your way via express delivery.
@jojo58, no can do with the language task………I barely speak English!!! But I’m certainly learning valuable phrases!! Such a talented bunch of multi-lingual fasters you are.
Pocketeers – Good luck, I wish I had the willpower/ stamina/ guts to join you. I’ll do it one day and I’ll join in, working towards it, I’ll follow my mantra for this WOL…………’I’ll get there slowly, but I’ll definitely get there!!’
Ok so 300 cal fast and jet lag are not a great combination. I had to cancel Bridge tonight in favour of an early night. Can’t think straight and don’t trust myself behind the wheel. I am also freezing cold even though heating is on full plus I am wearing a huge fleece. Suspect the cold is coming from inside.
Goodnight everyone, yawn✈️🛁❤️💤💤💤
@happymargo – thanks for helping @metatauta with our “pocket faster” deal. Be kind to yourself as you go back to work tomorrow! Yes, keeping busy does make fasting easier. I do agree. I am also a seamstress but hardly start from scratch any more on outfits. I find myself mending, making household items, altering, etc. more than new patterns and fabric. Just the other day, I ran elastic through the waistband of some pretty new pants that I just bought too big. I should have realized right away that I wasn’t done losing weight and either not bought them or found a smaller size. But, of course, they were on a great sale rack!
Back when I taught, I was the resident seamstress for our school. I made maternity bridesmaid outfits, altered, added or changed zippers – you name it. One teacher friend called me “the one with the sewing machine who knows how to use it!” I still laugh at that!
Australia Day 14 NFD
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
I really struggled with my FD but got through it. Will have completed 36 hours by 9am this morning. I had a fruit salad of melon pieces and strawberries for lunch yesterday but otherwise was liquid-only. I’ll break my fast this morning with carrot and celery sticks which should see my calorie count still under 500 calories by the time I hit near 40 hours at lunchtime. I don’t know how you Pocketeers go for 48 hours and even longer though. All strength to you!
@mamacat – how did your interview go?
Day 13……Florida……NFD
Just a quick stop over before I head out with girls….
Great day so far!
Please add me to the pocket faster Tues and Wed. please! I’m dragging Fuvvie with me…….
It was I that was holding of getting my hair cut but unfortunately, my weight went up before I could make the appointment. I have an appointment made for the end of the month, so, I got to get my butt in gear!
Okay, well I’m off!
Cheerio!
Day 14 Sunshine Coast Qld Australia ? ongoing FD? 106.4 kgs.
I am kicking myself for my NFDs carrying me into old territory. I was 104.4 kgs at one stage in January and now back at the above weight. It is a constant chasing of one’s tail and going over old ground. So think that while yesterday was an easy FD, I will just keep on going. Family are supportive of this. Yesterday was a liquid fast but today I may have a light meal tonight but under 1/4 TDEE. Will see how it pans out, but it will be an FD of some description.
I liked your story about the trousers Songbird. We had choir last night. It was great starting on Bohemian Rhapsody. Everyone was really into it and enjoying having a fair idea of how the song goes. It is totally different from I love Paris, which we also enjoyed as most of us have an inkling about how it goes. Getting the mood changes is the challenge. I love it. 3 of us are going to practise 3 little maids from The Mikado. Good fun.
Good luck HappyMargo. It is always with feelings of ambivalence that one returns to work after a prolonged break. The hardest return I had was after being off for 2 years. I think it took me about 6 months to get over the depression! I had had 2 years in Nigeria and work was the last place I wanted to be. Now that my registration has lapsed, I won’t be going back to work at all. And I am developing hobbies. Life is good. We visited my mother-in-law in the Aged Care Facility where she is living. She kept telling us that she would like to come home but she seemed very settled and was in the lounge room when we arrived which is much better than previously when she was lying on the bed. She is becoming more involved and making friends so it is a win win situation.
Looking good, FlourBaby. I like your mantra.
Just noticing that you are from Norway, MariaW. It puts me in mind of my Hardanger, Norwegian embroidery. I have a piece I haven’t finished even though I started it 14 years ago. I think I will dig it out and try and complete it. One can’t eat when doing Hardanger, It would spoil the thread and cloth to get food on it.
Have a top day/good sleep wherever you are and keep the faith.
Cheerio.
Day 13 – Cumbria UK – FD
just back home from a late yoga class – also had a pilates class this morning – feeling good.
Well today’s FD was so much easier than Saturday’s – Why???? I even managed to do a water fast with a few cups of tea with a dash of skimmed milk day too……………
Hope all my fellow pocketeers are doing well too – You have been in my back pocket all day today.
@mamacat – hope you smashed it at the interview today x
@scs – glad you liked that quote – I love finding new inspiring ones to keep me on the right track with this WOL – hope it inspires your daughter-in-law too xx
@happymargo – good luck on your return to work tomorrow x
Not able to keep up with all the posts today as I have rather busy but thinking of everyone whether you are doing a FD or NFD – if you are struggling today remember not to let “A Bad Day turn into a Bad Week!”
Day 14 FD NZ
Hi all my fellow pocket fasters.
I’m still going strong, managed yesterday just under 1-4 TDEE. Usually I aim low 300cals but was probably closer to 400. I’m comfortable that it’s a good state to be in going into day 2 FD.
Planning further cal allowance tonight again in the 380 range from my planned MFP dinner.
I ran a HIIT workout yesterday but I’m doing a more gentle steady state bike and crossertrainer 45min session today. Still need to be active but I don’t want to push too hard and hit the wall either.
I had a very stressful night last night thinking my employer wasn’t going to grant me leave to be away this week for our anniversary, mostly my own fault for the way it worked out last minute. But the late evening email really threw me.
I cried and felt so shaky and physically stressed with a racing heart on top of the mental stress at the thought of cancelling flights and tours and hotels etc, let alone the financial kick in the pants it would have been.
I was really pleasantly surprised that I didn’t have any urge to break my fast and comfort eat. I was actually too upset to consider food.
On the downside I slept really poorly waiting for this morning and trying to find a way to make it work. So today could have the sleep deprivation challenge adding to any hunger that crops up.
However I am prepared for it and I’ll just have to suck it up buttercup!!
As a Kiwi maybe I could add a colloquialism for not being hungry- it’s still English, but just barely!
Quite likely to hear something like
“Yeah nah Bro, I’m chocka aye”
Yeah Nah is such a common term that they actually made a TV ad using it extensively. Not the most refined use of the English language but we Kiwis are pretty well known for being fairly laid back….except when we cry over emails!!!
Strong strong all my fellow fasters, I’ve been thrown a challenge this first 36hours and conquered it, I know you all can stick with me and I’ll be back again today if I waiver in the face of tired hunger later. Big smiles😊
Day 13 – FD – Toronto
Good luck to all the pocketeers this week! This FD has felt a bit difficult but I am looking forward to my egg curry dinner this evening. I’ve felt tired and unfocused at work all day and am thinking that it may have to do with being on my period. Any other ladies find FDs harder during their cycles? Either way, I’m happy to not have succumbed to eating chocolates today and staying disciplined x
Day 14 – Tokyo Japan – NFD 78.6kg
Since I’m exercising more, I’m not surprised my weight is inching up a bit. (100g vs this time last week.) Right now I have some DOMS but just a bit. My ketone level is lower too at ~1.5 mmol/l. Not sure I have much faith in that though.
I was a bit hungry when I got up but after walking a bit it went away. I think if I could stay active I could manage another day. However I’m being crushed by work and need to sit and work most of the day so I’m going to not push it much longer. I haven’t eaten yet, ~37 hours.
Hi 2nd post
We’ll done Lane for not buckle ing. We are stronger than we think. So are you getting off ok?
Had a lovely steak and salad and should have left it that but thought I could have a couple of Lindor chocolate balls and be done X X X X who was I kidding lol. That opened the flood gates and suffice to say I feel uncomfortable. I wasn’t even hungry just wanted to keep feeding my face. Good job I am on a reset until Wednesday evening. Nite from me x
Day 14 Tasmania Aus NFD 65.5kgs
Ready to fast again tomorrow (wed), couldn’t do yesterday or today, but think I’ll go for a b2b or even if feeling good b2b2b! Need to get moving downwards again.
Good luck everyone and @lany36 I hope you get the time off but good job anyway not stress eating!
Second post – Day 14.
I haven’t forgotten to do the kefir recipe. I still don’t have Internet since moving house 2 weeks ago, and this is agony tapping away with 1 finger on my phone.
@jojo58 – I didn’t get my kefir grains from Amazon so can’t help there. Mine are live grains that I feed every day and hopefully they will go on forever. I got mine from a friend, and as they multiply I give them away to people, or else put them into dessert recipes. I think it may be possible to purchase dried live grains (can’t see how dried can be live, but that’s what I’ve read), but they are from a local source. Maybe have a look on eBay.
Weigh day tomorrow. I resisted weighing today, because yesterday was a FD and I think I may be lighter today than tomorrow (after a NFD), and it will do my head in if that proves to be the case. It’s sooo good to be on the downward slope that’s for sure and I don’t want to undo all that I’ve done so far. It’s the trend that’s important for me, not the day to day fluctuations.
Someone posted here about weighing throughout the day!! Arghhh…. resist resist resist! As soon as you have a glass of water you will weigh more, and after you pee you’ll be less. I know different things work for different people, but be kind to yourself along the way. This isn’t supposed to be torture.
Someone here posted the quote…
Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass but to learn how to dance in the rain. How true. It’s my mantra now and thanks so much for this.
Happy fasting everyone.
Day 14 ?FD country west Australia
Yesterday’s FD went well at times and then was quite difficult at other times of the day especially about 3 – 5 pm then OK again.
Been fasting since 6 pm Sunday evening. Only had 273 calories for breakfast yesterday and nothing but liquids since – black tea with a splash of milk and 1 coffee and plenty of water.
Debating whether to make this a b2b but feeling distinctly under the weather – eyes very tired and heavy and brain a bit foggy.
Plus there is a headache lurking – just sitting at the back of my head and letting me know it’s a possibility of cranking up and becoming worse.
Was going to break the fast with berries and yoghurt but might wait and see.
So holding on to the coattails of the pocketeers and will let you know how it went tomorrow.
Hi ho Hi Ho it’s off to work I go – but I’d much rather be at home getting stuff done.
@happymargo – good luck with the back to work
@mamacat – how did the interview go?
@lany36 – hope all goes well with getting time off. I love the ‘yeah nah…’!
Lots of people in Australia say ‘ yes , no.’ Gets a bit confusing at times.
Some expressions we have here when feeling full and saying no to food.
No thanks ..
‘ I’m full as a goog’.
I feel like a poisoned pup.
I’m as full as a mallee bull
I’m full up to pussy’s bow.
😍Happy Valentine’s Day
Day 14 Happy Valentines Day Melbourne NFD
@bellbelle Welcome – where do you live? If you start your post with Day of the Month, location and FD fast day or NFD, it helps LynzM keep track of us. Hang in for the long haul with us, it’s about perseverance with a good dash of self-honesty, more than anything.
@peli, hope the struggle moment has broken. Ref “pocket faster” I have shamelessly pinched HappyMargo’s description, which I reproduce here:
” I believe, it was Ciren that first suggested writing down the names of all of us joining together on a back-to-back Fasting Days Challenge, then slipping that piece of paper in her pocket to read during the day for mental support.
Since then, whenever we throw in an impromptu b2b fasting challenge we call the group Pocket Fasters or Pocketeers”
@mamacat, never has an interview had such global interest and well-wishing! We will celebrate with you when we hear the news, which simply has to be good. (If not, then there was probably some awful thing wrong with the job, anyway.)
@lany36 and @lilymartin – love the Down Under vernacular 😉
Hello to the most amazing group of sensational supporters in the world!! Thanks to each and every one of you who took time to wish me well. I truly do appreciate it. I felt good in the interview, even though they threw some pretty tough questions my way. Because it’s for an HR role, it’s was all the “tell me about a time/situational” questions. I’m not exactly HR material (I kind of have a potty mouth and I am not the most empathetic) so I did my best to convince the interviewers that I am. Hehe. I was one of 12 candidates and I hope to know more by next weekend. Even with the stress of the day, I managed my fast and only had about 400 calories today.
Keep up the great work pocketeers. You were all with me today during the interview 🙂
And happy Valentine’s Day to everyone xxoo xxoo
@biddiev – haha! Very something wrong! I’m a true believer that everything happens for a reason. Just like there’s a reason you all post everyday, keeping me on track and motivated. Some bathing suit god tricked you all into logging on to keep me accountable so the world doesn’t have to see the pre-fast booty in a bikini. Lol
End of day post – wishing you all a hug for Valentine’s Day tomorrow.
Does anyone know anything about doing IF while anemic? I’ve been hovering just above being anemic for years, not odd for this stage of life – but have now officially dipped into mild anemia. I’m planning to up my diet iron and add supplements of iron and B12. I have very heavy monthly cycles – have been referred to gynecologist – will visit her this week. I know this is pretty common going for 39 – anyone with some perspective to share?
Thank you for all the well-wishes on my return to work. I’ll report back on how it goes!
SongBird– LOL to “the one with the sewing machine who knows how to use it!” So true!
I was in 6th grade (10 years old) and a real outdoorsy Tom-Boy type, when my mother got me sewing lessons at the Singer Sewing Center for Christmas. At that time, my ungrateful bratty kid mind was so miffed at such an awful gift…
Years later is still one of the BEST gifts I’ve ever received! Such a useful & money-saving skill to have! Can’t thank my Mom enough!
Day 14 U.K. FD (day 2/3 FD begins for Pocketeers) Happy Valentines❤️💙💛💜💚💖💓💗💝💞💓💘
Very early morning here. Thought I would post as awake and have an early start planned tomorrow. Already weighed in -1 lb but that includes 1/2 up yesterday so – 5lbs total for Feb so far. Complicated or what?
Hope you enjoy this link I am passing on from my own thread, it’s catchy! The message is very clear

I haven’t posted a link before I hope this works
2nd post.
Thanks @jojo58 just watched the link. Love it.
Day 14 – Perth AUS – FD
Almost stuffed up my FD, as Valentine’s Day meant pancakes for brekky and I totally forgot :/ Had a garden salad with tuna for lunch and will have a small dinner serve. My usual fast day is one low calorie vegie dinner but not today 🙁 BUT! I can still rein in the energy intake so it isn’t too excessive 🙂 I figure so long as I’m reasonably close to target (100 calories or so) that’s still worth it. Don’t want to give myself any excuses for just going “ah stuff it” and pigging out… that’s what got me here in the first place!
Sending strength to all the pocket fasters today! It’s disgustingly warm and humid here 😐 Hopefully not so in other parts of WA (and the world) 😛
@fuvvie – I wish I could sing in your choir! Have you heard this rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody?” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIgPIGUQ8yY
Last time we did “Mikado” in our town, I got to play Katisha (the ‘witch’) who was really fun to portray.
Tonight was our social at our Choral Society, and I did my best not to graze around the treat table too much. I think that was more sweets than I have had in a year though. We have savory and sweet both. It was my supper.
Day 13, Oceanside CA USA, FD
Strong start of the week after an NFD weekend with lots of walking and sensible dinners. I skip lunch every day and enjoy a small handful of mixed nuts in between.
Today played golf, walked 3 miles and enjoyed dinner salad. DH and I are committed to Fast 5:2. Tummy grumbles a little at end of FD, but I know there is a new day dawning.
Coming up on 3 month anniversary this week. Amazing how different we feel and with pounds lost a bonus.
Songbirdme
I really enjoyed that link
I thought you might like to watch a link to my choir- inspiration- Something inside so Strong- it’s what we all have if we decide to draw on it
Rock Choir East Kent on utube if you want to see more. National choir 25,000 strong, no auditions to be accepted no music to read, we learn by heart and sing by soul.
