  • Day 9, Gozo, Malta, NFD

Babysitting today and granddaughters sleeping the night le all this week until Saturday when their mother comes from abroad. It’s hectic and at times I’m eating mindlessly. I’m 1 kilo above target. My granddaughters are sick.

    Good night

    Day 9 Maine NFD

Hi! Late checking in today – blizzard here “n’or easter”! Turned into a phone day – family stuff & everyone checking in. Some stressful news last night sent me right to the carbs! Tried eating healthy – cottage cheese, avocado, but soon just dove into bag of pretzels. Then after dinner, chocolate. In hind site, should have just airpopped some popcorn – needed crunch. Tried a beach walk, but didn’t take away craving. Felt defeated last night, but woke up today more in control! Hard to eat when you’re on phone all day – guess that’s the silver lining.

Trying hard to remember that awful full feeling as I climbed into bed. Don’t want to repeat that. I can do better!

Hubby making big pot of chili – ok to have that for dinner. He just asked if I wanted corn bread – told him “no”. Instead of saying “I don’t want the calories”, I told him ” we so rarely have chili – just want to focus & savor that taste”. How’s that? Very proud of myself…it’s the little things!

    Australia Day 10 NFD
Weigh in day – lost 2 kgs! So glad I steered around all those obstacles on my FD yesterday! πŸ™‚ Now to maintain control over the weekend. I will plan my days rather than letting them surprise me! Tonight we are going to a friend’s for dinner so I will continue my fast until lunch and then have nay a very light lunch. I will also take some carrot and celery sticks tonight so there is something healthy to snack on. Good luck all xx

    2nd post

Yay..I got to end of FD ..calories just over 500 about 550 but I did a 6.5km very brisk walk today too. Very happy. Thanks for your encouragement @ciren2 and @blueninjamum.

    Hoping to repeat FD tomorrow.

Day 9 (again) –Colorado USA — NFD

Actually it’s 2:00 PM & nothing to eat yet. So may as well just hold out for dinner.

If I keep it below 500 calories, it’d be a “surprise” FD. No chance though! DH & I are going out to Texas Roadhouse for dinner. And there will be red wine involved! So I guess it’ll just turn into a 23:1 instead. Sweet!

Ciren– Congrats on your successful FD. That’ll go a long way to restoring your confidence!

PashaW– you’re results are excellent! Hope your DH gets better quickly.

all smiles– you will be breaking that 30% BF barrier very soon!

ADF12kg– isn’t it wonderful how 5:2 helps to break that “pull of food”? It was such a surprise for me when I learned I’m in control of portion sizes & could even say, “No thanks” to food & really mean it!

FlourBaby– Yaywho on that visit from the underwear/ panty/ knicker stretching fairy! Fantastic progress!

    Day 10 nz nfd
Haven’t managed very well this last week. Weigh in 82.5kg. Up 1.5kg from last week. Not surprising as I have been struggling. Ah well another day.

AT– yes, received the “all clear” thumbs up from my surgeon & PT today!
I get to return to work next week (I’m a Surgical RN & have missed the structure of my work day & feeling useful too!)

I know there are some Fellow Fasters here “on maintenance” with 5:2 and just want to say “Thank You!” for sticking around the Challenge threads!
Hearing how you all are handling the bumps & moving forward with success really gives me hope!

SongBird & Rachel– all 3 of those recipes sound delicious!

DH does not like seafood or curry, but they’ll be perfect for me on a FD. He can just do his favorite pizza delivery on those nights. And I won’t be tempted.

    thanks for sharing!

Don’t you love visiting your wardrobe. Clothing is the best indicator of progress. Much more fun then numbers on a scale. I’m onto my 5th Konmaried wardrobe having reduced from an Australian size 14/16 to size 6/8! Thank goodness for op/ charity shops. Otherwise I’d be running around naked! Not a good look at my age.

Yesterday I consigned another favourite dress to the charity bag. Sometimes it’s hard to let go, especially when the garment is only one size too big. But I AM NOT keeping it ” just in case” because I am not going back there.

Had a big chuckle yesterday. Had to rumage through my underwear to find a pair of undies to wear under a dress. I had visions of walking around the shopping centre with my knickers around my ankles because they were just too big.

Hang in there 5:2ers, strugglers and achievers, this WOE is sustainable. To all who are struggling I love that you are being accountable to us and too yourself. This is a positive step on your journey. I won’t wish you good luck because you will do this even if it takes time for that head click. Treating 5:2 as a healthy lifestyle and not a diet is part of the secret.

@blueninjamum thanks– I am now on the waiting list! πŸ™‚ can’t wait!

    Food for thought

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that eating whole grains high in dietary fibre have a positive impact on calorie loss and also speed up metabolism. The study compared two groups one on a whole grain diet and the other on a refined grain diet. Those eating whole grains lost an extra 100 calories during the digestive process.

A small study and more research needed to confirm results but worth considering.

    Day 9 | NFD | Bucks UK

    Day 9 USA, Hawaii NFD

    Day 10 – Tokyo Japan – FD #10 – 80.7kg

I’m at a point where I don’t believe the ketosis test I’ve been using, or else I’m really in a low level of ketosis most of the time. The lowest level I got to on NFD is 1.5 mmol/l. Maybe I’m doing the test wrong.

I’m only at day FD #10 for 2017 because I skipped a week while traveling. Initially I was thinking I should shoot for 100 fasting days in 2017 but then I realized that is silly. My goal is 15% or less body fat, not racking up fasting days. When I started reducing I was pushing 40% body fat, now I’m about 18%.

So on my NFD I took my kids to Panda Express because they had a half day at school. I ate the veggies with mushroom chicken. Never ever again will I go into a Panda Express. I went “healthy” and yet I’m still so ill. It just shows you how much your body changes once you start giving it what it needs, not what your mouth wants. πŸ™…πŸ½πŸΌ

30 mins ’till lunch and the end of a 40-hour fast. Sooooooo hungryyyyyy!

Day 10 Tasmania Aus NFD 64.2kgs

@ciren2 great job getting through the fast! !

Day 10 FD ( 16:8) country west Australia

NFD yesterday went OK. Was going to fast until dinner time but it got cold, I went to a cafe for coffee and ended up with a delicious slice of quiche with a large salad – so good. Ended the day with home made veal marsala and veggies – yum.
Since starting 5:2 I find I am not nearly as hungry as I previously was.
I’ve found that I can now look at food and be near food, mostly, ( shopping centres with food on every side, buffets etc) and usually be more mindful about what I eat. Although if NOT mindful it is so easy to slip back into bad patterns as I posted on Monday .

The vagaries of our weather are similar to weight loss journey!!!
Last Monday ( I think it was ) 38C and air conditioner at work going flat out as it was SO hot . Today 17C and I am almost sitting on top of the heater.
The very worst thing is it is pouring outside. It’s been raining all night and forecast 50 – 100 mls rain which is NOT good for farmers in summer. Just means our poor sheep instead of having lovely nutritious dry feed now have the equivalent of cold wet soggy non-nutritious glump ( think 3 day old left over child’s soggy cereal, for those with children!!)
@lany36 – curious as to what your real career is ? You mentioned adding an ? exercise degree
@hannahwatto – not sure if you’re supposed to , but it DOES make one feel a tad smug when able to fast in the presence of food and others eating, well it does for me.
@lynzm – I think the halfway results is a great idea to keep us on track.
Have a good and mindful and enjoyable weekend all.πŸ˜„

Day 10 – Perth AUS – FD (last day of 3 day fast)

3rd fast day in a row. Day 1 and 2 weren’t hard at all, but today? Hmm. Hungry. Most people at work go out for lunch somewhere nice on Friday when it’s pay week. Luckily it’s rainy and horrid outside, but that’ll probably mean they get take-away and bring it all into the office WAAAAAH πŸ™‚ Going to try and push through it, as I’m with @goldensun and @coda in the Wed-Fri pocket fast and I don’t want to let you guys down!

To make matters worse, someone at home decided the fast-day dinners (palak paneer) I’d made in bulk looked tasty and helped them-self to a serve, meaning I’m down one serve. I’ll just have to make more! YAY! πŸ˜€

I’m hoping the 3 day fast means the measurements I got last Sunday stick (or don’t go up too much now my body has adjusted a bit). Weigh in day is Sunday.

@dykask do you use the urine or blood test strips for ketones?

    Day 9 USA FD

@anna6 – I hope your grandkids recover quickly xx

OK so after 40-hour FD I had a skinless chicken thigh, steamed broccoli and a scoop of greek salad. This from the same chicken shop from where I used to buy marinated drumsticks and chips for lunch. Small but constant changes are the way …

    Day 9. Quebec. CD

    Second post

Took my reading glasses and reread the instructions on the ketosis test strips. I was doing it wrong. (Dip and wait 15 seconds not leave in for 15 seconds.) Ugh why do they use such tiny fonts for instructions? Anyway I’ve started tracking again.

    20 hours in to fast: 1.0 mmol/l

That actually sounds much more reasonable.

This fast isn’t hard. I do feel a little hungry but not so much that I can’t handle it. I try to keep my fasts calorie free.

    Day 10, UK, FD

So… 10 Days done in Feb. 7 of those have been FDs.

I seem to be losing mass from the around my belly. The ‘love handles’ (I know girls – talk like that gets the BP up…) are definitely less dense and shrinking (I’m gonna miss ’em really πŸ™‚ – but I can always bring em back [Noooooo…].

And my 34 inch Levis are starting to need another notch in the belt to keep them up now. I bought the belt in Spain on holiday in August ’16 + I can see the first notch I used is now quite far away from where I am now. I started the 5:2 in September 2016, so that’s my progress really. If I get down to a 32 inch waist, it’ll be the first time since, well probably my adult life. I just thought that 34 inch was me in my 20’s and 30’s, and 36 inch was OK in 40s onwards – stupid really, for a man of my obvious intellect [no comments please :)]

Take care all. I’m very impressed with the efforts and honesty. Good luck today. And may the God of the Scales be kind to us all.

    Day 10 – Switzerland – FD

Totally arsed yesterday up with a slice of fruit cake at book club – it was delicious, and not a big slice but worked out at over 800 kcals. I had thought 250 max – chalk it down to experience…

So a rather hungry start to my FD. Still haven’t managed an entirely-logged NFD or 16:8, but FDs are going okay. Good luck everyone!

    Day 10 / NFD / Oman
    Doing 16:8.
    Missed check-in yesterday…it was NFD.

    day 10 – Melbourne – NFD

ROFL!! such funny people here – it quite makes my day(s)! Nothing like having a sense of humour to get ourselves through life’s ups and downs.

Had breakfast AND lunch today – to ‘bond’ with dear OH, but not huge and no desire to snack in between times, so hopefully Bob Dylan was right ” The times, they are a’chaaaaange….inggggg “. (sorry to the choir grrrls here, I am a TerriBle singer)

Good weekend All and remember – Fall down Seven times, get up Eight.

    Day 10 UK NFD

“Determination to eat less today, brings success on the scales tomorrow”

Hello all have a good, fun successful day/evening/afternoon wherever you are.

    Cheerio

    Day 10 NFD, Newcastle, UK

Successful FD yesterday although I found it hard going. I was determined but felt hungry all day. I managed by taking each hour at a time, drinking lots of tea, herbal and coffee and reading your posts. TV helped distract me for the last 3 hours with back to back Countdown, Tipping Point and The Chase.

Weighed this morning and am 65.3kg – only .3kg down on my starting weight for this challenge but after my disastrous (food/drinkwise) trip to London, so my overall feeling is relief as the result could have been so much worse. I feel back on track to have a good month.

Girl’s night tonight but at a friend’s house and she’s making a meal – it’s usually pretty healthy but my real challenge is not to eat too much – no seconds! I am prepared with alcohol free wine to take and I’ll drive to ensure I don’t give in. I know that avoiding alcohol is key to staying on track.

Have a good day everyone and stay strong through the weekend. Don’t let that sabotage devil tell you that you’re allowed to reward yourself. Thank you for all your posts – they’re helping me enormously.

    UK day 10 nfd (cd) 11.4 3/4)

Hello everyone – im doing a happy dance this morning. Catch up later xx

    Day 10 : Cheshire, UK : NFD/CD

@elektron @coda – thank you for joining me for the pocket fast. I am driving to London this afternoon to stay with friends for the weekend. I will break my fast this evening when we have dinner together.

I must admit I went over 500 calories last night as I am starting with a cold and was feeling emotional. Something to watch out for is the emotional eating but because of the pocket fasts, I felt able to have some control over the emotional eating….so thank you again.

    @johnnyr – you are so funny πŸ™‚

Have a lovely weekend everyone. I will try and check in over the weekend.

    Cheerio for now! πŸ™‚

    Day 10 UK NFD

Still positive and feeling good! Walking with a group today ending up with lunch, I will make healthy choices! Along the coastal path (Poldark country!)

Happymargo – hope you got the all clear and will be back fitness soon.
PashaW – hope OH heals soon sounds nasty. Well done on staying strong!
Ciren2 – brilliant that you achieved your fast day, yeh! Best of luck for Saturday, can’t join you as it’s my OHs birthday.
Flourbaby – so pleased for you, doesn’t feel great to find your clothes so loose! Such a boost! I just love my skinny size 12s!!

Going away tomorrow for a week, seeing children and gradchildren for half term and really looking forward to it.

Got my Kefir from a friend a couple of days ago, tastes really good! OH says he’ll stick to his Yakult!

Any advice for strengthening my nails? They are really weak and spilt easily. I do the usual things washing up/cleaning I wear gloves and take a supplement for hair and nails and a multi vit. I must be lacking something!

Good luck all, onwards and down!!

Day 10, UK, FD. Happy Friday all.

    Day 10, NZ, NFD

    Day 10 FD Sydney
HOTT!!! too hot to think about much but have stuck to the FD cals
    7.45pm and its 31C
thankfully it’s come down from 39 a couple of hours ago.
tired and headachy – don’t know if the fasting is doing this or the weather, but it happened last fast day too.
will weigh in tomorrow and see if I managed to drop anything after the week’s indulgences

    Day 10 UK FD

Yesterday’s NFD went well. I didn’t eat until 2 when the bulk of the work was done – and I got it done much faster for not having eaten. But instead of eating properly I grazed out of last night’s dinner again. I got that broccoli just right and the potatos dipped in the seeds (mustard and flax seeds with lemon and ginger and chili) from it were marvellous even cold. I padded that out with a cup of marmite with lots of seaweed in it and then didn’t eat until quite late when I had a bowl of mashed kidney beans and chilis with white stilton with mango melted on it with sugar snap peas. As the day’s total was a bit low I had a bowl of cereal for pudding, with pecans in it. I am determined not to let my metabolism drop but if I end up craving cereal I won’t do that again. It does seem difficult to push up calories without carbs. Nuts would be a better option if I was able to stop eating them instead of polishing off the entire bag:~

It was cold yesterday but ok while I was working. But I got so cold once I stopped, even though I was then indoors instead of out. But I would rather be cold than hot. You can always put on an extra layer but you can’t take off your skin! I couldn’t bear the heat some of you are dealing with. That said the weather today makes me less envious than I would otherwise be of that walk along the coastal path Rocy65 is doing today. I would love to live near the coast but I am probably as far away from it as you can get on this island:( Ho hum, I can always pretend the traffic noise is waves…

    Day 9 Ireland NFD
Not looking forward to tomorrow’s FD

Day 10 UK-NFD no weigh in today
Back home at last, exhausted and shivery, possibly getting sick, pain in my shoulder too, not good. Due to time difference I am losing a day but thought I had better get in sync with UK.

My plans to fast on my long flight return to UK from NZ went right out of the window. Firstly I was freezing in my aisle seats on the plane and secondly surrounded by a very noisy group for the entire trip so sleep was impossible, so I watched many films. Hong Kong is the coldest airport I have ever had to wait at, air conditioning really extreme. So, no fasting, not even 23/1 had everything in every meal, had hot drinks and food were necessary to keep me from freezing to death, seriously teeth chattering events. I drank lots of water in flight too but that made me shiver even more. I even ate ‘meat’ meals as some other options not desirable. No alcohol though so not all.

At home now sitting next to a radiator and drinking tea but I seriously need to give in and go to bed, to hell with waiting until tonight to avoid jet lag, my body needs sleep now.

Weigh in Thursday for end of Week 2 Feb Challenge- hope to fast Monday and Wednesday. Back to normal 23/1 from tomorrow. Not so sure about 2 lb goal for this week now but maybe not too late to redeem myself.

Good Luck Fellow Fasters, accept what’s gone, plan for what’s next.

    Day10 Belfast NFD
Went over the 500 cals yesterday so I’m making today’s NFD a 23:1. Happy with this morning’s scale reading, but tomorrow’s the official weigh-in day so I’m working hard today to be SO controlled. However, I’m on a roll; just under 2 lbs to lose to get to that magical 10 stone something…. (I don’t care what the something is!)
I did my usual swim this morning and got two compliments. I guess standing in your cozzie is as close as you get to being in public with no clothes on, so I’m delighted!
Thank you @rachel for the link to what looks a delicious meal
@ciren2 hopefully the tide has turned for you now. I’m so glad – you sound much more upbeat!
@flourbaby what an amazing ‘big trouser’ moment. Enjoy every minute and even better, enjoy buying some small girls’ trousers!
Onahealthyhigh thank you for that sensible advice. Whole grains are such a good delicious source of dietary fibre.
I’m extending Internet hugs to all of you who are battling illness, with person or with loved ones.
Let’s stay strong. We can do this together!

    DAY 10 – Cardiff UK – FD

    Starting weight : 173.3lb

    Today’s weight : 168.2lb (5.1lb)

    Morning Everyone

Firstly, thanks @lynmz for all your hard work, and sorry if I’ve headed my days wrong at all – sometimes I forget what day it is!

A nice controlled NFD yesterday and only a slight increase on the scales so happy with that. Last of my FD for the week today and aiming to keep it liquids only, but have 300cal chicken biryani if the cold gets too much.

Hope everyone has a great day – the weekend’s nearly here x

Day 10 – Virginia (USA) NFD

Lost 5 pounds to 171 as of yesterday. Still going with FDs on Monday and Wed-Th. Running 20 miles/week (so far) Wanted to try and stretch the b2b into today but I woke up with a burning kind of dizziness so I ate a couple PB&Js and went back to sleep easily.

    Good luck.

    Day 10…. Florida….. FD

    Ciren…… CONGRATS!!!!πŸŽˆπŸŽŠπŸΎπŸŽ‰
    I’m sooo proud of you!

Opheusx…… Hi! Hope your doing well!

So, the last two days, I’ve been sitting here in the dirt. Trying like hell to stand up and walk towards the wagon waiting up yonder for me. I keep falling down, there seems to be a rock laying right where my foot is suppose to be. I wish, I could say that an angry fuzz, food ball pushed me oh so forcefully off my lovely perch, but let’s be honest, I jumped all by my lonesome.
I’m gonna try today, to stand up and walk to the wagon today! Hopefully, my mind and body can stop beating me up so I can get to the wagon.
There is some good news while sitting in the dirt, I did manage to increase my water intake. So, al though I’m up another 3/10th of a pound, I’m sure it could have been worse. Although, I am experiencing an unusual amount of belly bloat! I’ll spare you the details of this. I’m hoping a solid FD will solve this little problem and actually give the scales a run for their money this week. Ok, ok, I know I’m dreaming but a girl can hope right?
I also have to apologize, I’ve have been a little neglectful in ready everyone’s post. I’ve been just skimming through them….. today is the day I stop neglecting myself and my wonder 5:2 family.
I know tonight, I’ve got some wonderful posts to look forward too 100 days, falling undies and the all clear from drs.
Well, time to get up and get moving!

    Cheerio!

    Day 10 USA FD

Ended up yesterday doing a 23:1 — went over the 1/4 TDEE but that’s okay. Not too upset about that. All this traveling is throwing off my schedule from one day to the next. It is harder to keep a good NFD under control when I don’t know if I am coming or going. The good news is I am now home for a full week before I head out which will help me get regulated.

FD today – true liquid fast is the plan. I am also going to start a bone broth again to have over the weekend as last time it was delicious and so satisfying.

    Stay strong everyone!

Hello 2nd post – still dancing I just hope this roll lasts a bit longer. I can see the hint of a collar bone showing!

My next interim goal is 11.3 so nearly there and then the one after that is to get to 10 stone something – like Debster don’t really mind what but that will be a big boost to the mindset.

Planning to break my fast at 1pm so from Wednesday 7pm that will be about 42 hrs. Then am planning to have lunch with dinner tonight.

Thoughts are with those in the group who are dealing with illness themselves or family members. Those struggling please, please don’t give up. Take it from someone who joined this site end of July 2015 with lots of ups and downs along the way. Starting this thread May 2016 after a particularly big bump. I have learnt this is a journey for life and not something with an end, until of course the actually end lol, so the sooner you relax and go with the flow accepting the ups and downs, the good times and bad times the better/easier it will be. We are such a supportive group, with help only a click away when things are tough – your job is to stay with us and not give up.

Have a good weekend everyone – If it is to be – it is up to me! and remember if you can dream it, you can achieve it – so start dreaming and picturing the slimmer, healthier you.

    Day 10 – NSW Aust – FD
Just less than 500 calories and just over 1600mls water so some things I’m doing better. @pamie things aren’t always easy just a Day at a time. Good luck to all. Have a great weekend.

Day 10– Colorado USA — NFD

dykask– 40% down to 18% body fat? Wow! Terrific results! You must have an entirely new wardrobe after all that.

Anna6– sorry to hear your granddaughters are not well. You have your hands full. Hope they bounce back quickly to health.
I must admit though I do like reading your posts; they are full of activities & outings with family.
(DH & I have no family here, we have a long airplane flight in order to go visit any family. Miss them all terribly. We are in process of long-term planning to move back closer to family in 5 or 6 years, when our job circumstances allow.)

JohnnyR– keeping notching that belt down! Good work!
I’m waiting till I hit my final weight goal to spring for a nice, new black leather belt as a reward. The one I have now has too many marks & dents from my highest weight till now. Thank you 5:2!
(Maybe I’ll keep it hanging in my closet just as a keepsake reminder of where I once let myself get up to.)

Oh, Bert– ((Hugs)) to you! We’re here to help you stand back up, brush off the dirt & pull you back on the wagon. We know you can do it!

For me, I had to take the “all or nothing” pressure off. I didn’t need a perfect full liquid only FD. I had to ease my way back to this WOL by taking small, manageable steps. It may work for you too.
Take some easy baby-steps, just like you added drinking more water. Then add another easy baby step, like skipping just breakfast. Then another, like switching to tiny plates & bowls, so your portions look big but really aren’t.

    Remember: PROGRESS, NOT PERFECTION.

    UK day 10 NFD

Stayed within my TDEE yesterday. Swimming this morning and some exercises in the pool. Still recoveringfrom my back injury πŸ™
Breakfast 2 small pieces of toast with peanut butter
Snack 2 low carb crackers with smoked salmon pate
Dinner 1 fishcake with celeriac chips. Might have some wine will see how I feel later 😁

Day 10, Sunshine Coast Qld Australia NFD:

Hi Bert, Did you notice me down in the dirt with you. That wasn’t a rock, it was my head! Where does the will power go when you are saying “I will have that even though I know it is going to do me no good and I will feel awful tomorrow, and the next day and the next? Are you going to get up on the wagon and pull me up or will I beat you to it and drag you up??? At least I am not alone.

The child minding finished this morning. Then I went to PROBUS and they had a lawyer talking about writing your will. It was a very confronting talk really. Everyone in the group is retired and we’re all getting on in years. So the mind turns to thoughts of where we have been and where we are headed. I’d really like to stretch the years out a bit and that is part of why I have chosen to do 5:2. But I’ve been slacking off this month.

Very proud of you, Ciren2. I take comfort from the fact that people can feel so down and then yank themselves up by their bootstraps and get on with it. Go girl.

Glad you got home safely JoJo. I hate those long flights, and eating is one way of getting through the tedium of sitting in a silver tube thousands of feet up. Flight is amazing but I have never really grown to like it. I get very restless legs.

Will try and read the posts more closely and thanks for Keeping track, LynzM. It is a contract when there are so many.

Georgia/USA/Day 10/NFD: Looking forward to the weekend. I have two 4 day weeks ahead and I’m so grateful for it.
