  • Day 9– Colorado USA — NFD

Have appointments today with Physical Therapist & Orthopedic surgeon. Hoping everything is healed well with both feet & I receive the “all clear” thumbs up from both.

My Medical Leave is over & I return to work next week. It’s been a long break & I’m ready to go back! There’s a lot of co-workers I miss, plus the structure of the work day sure makes fasting easier!

    Day 9 Belfast FD
ADF12kgless and SongBirdMe thank you for the links.
Finished ‘The Case Against Sugar’ and now on ‘the Obesity Code’. All food for thought (pardon the pun)
I skipped my swim yesterday- just one of those lazy moments. Couldn’t be bothered to get up early on a cold and very frosty day. I need to redress that. I am signing up for Pilates instead of yoga for next month, just to mix it up. I have a spin bike in my spare room. With all this talk about Hit! I must clear off all the rubbish from the handlebars and give it a whirl. I usually do 5 x 50m sprints in the pool before my swim down. That certainly gets the heart pumping.
    Have a good day everyone

    Day 8 USA Hawaii NFD

    Day 9, UK, FD

So… all well. Completed 3rd FD of the week yesterday, although a little over 600 Kcal (800) allowance.
Did my Swimming for Fitness class at the local Uni pool. Otherwise titled ‘drowning for fun’. A good tiring session.

Onwards and downwards now with FD No.4 out of 5 this week. I keep telling myself on a FD that I can eat normally tomorrow if I want to, but don’t really feel hungry when I wake up. This thread also helps inspire me, just to see I’m not alone (aside from the voices in my head πŸ™‚ ).

I’d like to switch to ADF, but weekends are when I would struggle. So I’m trying this 5 day midweek thing as it’s easier. Cranking up the exercise whilst doing it and a load of work is not that easy tho.

Good luck all today. May none of you feel one pang of hunger, guilt, remorse or fear of the scales. And may the pounds melt away like an ice cream on a hot pavement. Mind you that Aussie heat sounds like it could actually melt you all down there!

@dykask Thanks for the Bullet Nut coffee recipe. I’ll try and get hold of some Flax Seed and give it a whizz in the food blender. If I can get it to taste good I’ll patent it and cut you in πŸ™‚ That Bullet Proof coffee guy seems a bit scary to me, not the best endorsement for his product, but he’s also minted.

    Day 9, NZ NFD

Day 9 Sunshine Coast Qld Australia NFD: still not home. No time to catch up on posts. Not focussed. Back to normal on Monday. Will catch up then.

Extra post – this FD has been like an obstacle course! The day started at 5:30 to get to a client event. They served not only Danish pastries and muffins but then brought out an array of quiches and loads of fruit salad. I then had a meeting with another client in a really good cafe and returned to the office to find the staff had broken out the biscuits and fruit at afternoon tea. I am now at the football and my OH is sitting beside me eating a chicken burger and chips! I have had only black tea, black coffee and water all day! I am taking perverse pleasure in watching everyone around me filling their bodies with such dreadful food! Good luck to all fasters!

    Day 9…… Florida…..FD

So, yesterday turned into a NFD but was mindful to stay under my TDEE, so today will be another attempt at a FD.
I’m using yesterday experience to physically and visually realize what a NFD under my TDEE looks and feels like in the attempt to get the under control.

My FD and NFD are out of whack anyways due to my alternate schedule this week, so it just part of the course, in which I must adjust and move on.

Slept well for the third night in a row, so that definitely helps in the sum of my world. Still up those 2 rotten lbs but trying not to make that a big deal. So many other things, I need to refocus on right at the moment.

I went back to Nov. and looked what I did seeing as that was the month, I had the biggest drop in weight. What I came to discover was that it may not necessarily my over eating on NFD as much as it is not getting enough water into my system.
Which very well could be the reason for the headaches, sleepless night and sorry but missed bathroom opportunities.
So, as of yesterday, I’ve started to try and get more water in my system.
Oh how great would be if I discovered my biggest down trot was a glass or two of good old fashion water.
I guess it’s just going to have to be one of those wait and see moments.

Well….. tonight I’m gonna try to catch up with the posts. I feel like I’m a million years behind.

    Cheerio!

    Hello UK day 9 FD

Haven’t read this page yet but just checking in.

@mamacat – laughed out loud – something my OH would say too lol.

I’ll join you pocket fasters – fasted from last night and will break fast Friday dinner time.

Day 9 Surrey UK GOT to be a FD…let’s see how it goes

    DAY 7 – Cardiff UK – NFD

    Starting weight : 173.3lb

    Today’s weight : 167.4lb (5.9lb)

    Morning all

Another good liquid FD yesterday, still no sugar and the scales have obliged by falling again – just need to be careful on NFD to maintain this.

Quite a stressful time at the moment as hubby is quite ill with a wound infection, but surprisingly instead of heading for the biscuits I’ve found some comfort in planning my meals. I think it’s because I need to feel in control of something and other than giving hubby antibiotics, pain killers and keeping him fed and watered, there’s nothing I can do to control his illness. This WOL has taught me that I can manage what I eat and make healthy decisions.

Hope you all have a great day x

    UK 2nd post

@Eternally grateful – I always wanted to live on a cowboy ranch and ride horses. I see why you are eternally grateful lol

    Day 9 – Toronto – NFD

My typical FDs are Mondays and Wednesdays so I feel like my weekend has started when Thursday rolls around πŸ˜€ While FDs have definitely gotten easier the longer I’ve been on this fast, I’m not one of the people that doesn’t do a little jig when they’re behind me for the week πŸ˜€

Weighed in this morning and am 2 pounds down from Feb 1st ! πŸ™‚ Although not mentioned, one of my goals in all this is also to really lower my body fat percentage and my weigh scale measures that too – today I was at 30.1% I’m so close to breaking 30% that I’m pumped and motivated!

@lany36 that’s awesome – you must be a wealth of information. I am going to try your treadmill workout on my next FD (Monday) but may need to drop to a fast walk instead of a jog for starters. Thank you!

    UK Day 9 NFD

Had a good FD yesterday and planning a low carb day today.

    Breakfast: Creamy coffee
Lunch: Smoked salmon pate on crackers
Dinner: Warm salad with chicken, bacon & avocado
    Glass of white wine

Have a good day one and all πŸ™‚

Hey Y’all (I don’t know why I felt the need to say that as I don’t usually talk that way… *shrug πŸ˜€ )

    Day 9 – NFD

Even though it is my NFD, I would like eat small portion and lighter. I am not counting calories or anything. Last night when I was packing my lunch for today, I was hungry so I ended up packing a lot more stuff but this morning, I don’t feel the pull on food as I did last night. I am not hungry this morning…more thirsty. I am feeling little tired but mostly rested. I also feel such better physically when I don’t eat as much food. I need to remember how good this feels and the hunger and the food thoughts will and DO pass. I just need more practice turning my attention to something else. So hard to look away though…like looking at Medusa when the psychological craving and hunger strikes. I shall put on my Wonder Woman armor and shield myself!

That was a bit of a tangent wasn’t it? I am not sure where Wonder Woman thought came from. Not even a comic book fan. LOL

Thanks for all the posts that start out with “Looking forward to my FD”. Reading those words puts a different perspective and feeling to it. It’s all a mind set, really. FD is rewarding and wondering and feels good, isn’t it?! and “I can always have it tomorrow.”

Have a fantastic day! I hope you all don’t mind multiple postings. It helps to just know I am with community of people on the same journey. IF has not caught on very well here in Texas and when I have mentioned to work colleagues, they chime in with disapproval and look of “you are doing something bad for you”. Now I don’t say anything. I think that may be better because I don’t need other’s approval and know I am doing that is right for me is all that matters.

    Cheers!

Day 9 UK, NFD. @lynzm, thank you for the time you’re taking to organise this challenge πŸ‘πŸ½
Planning on FD tomorrow and Monday.
Is anyone else finding their TDEE allowance is more than they’ve been used to? Mine is 1662 and I was previously having 1200 per day so my NFD’s feel like a treat. As I’m currently recuperating from an op, I’m sometimes finding that I’m having to eat more later in the day because I’ve not eaten enough.

Good luck to all fasting today.

    Day 9 – London – NFD

    Day 9 – NSW Aust – NFD
All good, I too like you @bert1802 think that my failings this month is not drinking enough h2o. Headaches are bad today and sleep is an never ending issue. Tomorrow on fd will make a greater effort to push myself to drink more water. Good luck to everyone.

Day 9: NFD. Az USA. After a 3 day fast I am happy to say I am down after my epic face stuffing weekend. Started Jan 1st at 160lbs today I weighed in at 146. I feel awesome which is by far the best part of all of this!

Now to accept the hunger days, don’t indulge on crap food when I don’t sleep well, and save some money as I hope to be rewarding myself with some new clothes soon πŸ™‚
    -adios

Day 9 USA (Illinois) – NFD

just checking in — doing my best to maintain

    Day 9: Gloucestershire, UK: NFD.
I succeeded with my first fast-day of the month yesterday…YIPPEE! In fact, the first since 18th January. I have about 9 pounds to lose to get back to where I was at Christmas. So I need to get on with it.

AT: Hope you did it yesterday.
    NorrieB: Good luck today.

    Georgia/USA/Day 9/ FD

    Day 9 – Canada – FD

Here I go again. Let’s see if I can have a successful FD today. I need it to get me going again.

@ciren2. High fives to you on your successful FD yesterday! πŸ‘πŸ‘

@ciren2 well done – knew you could go it and so glad you’ve proved it to yourself πŸ‘πŸ»

    Day 9 – Brittany, France – NFD

Will fast again tomorrow and weigh in on Saturday morning.

I’m trying to shorten my eating window on NFDs – will have an 8-hour window today. Next week I won’t be able to have any FDs at all, because of work. So I’ll have lunch and dinner and nothing else – no snacking and no booze – and keep any eating within that 8-hour window. And then I’ll weigh myself at the end of the week and hopefully see if I’ll have managed to maintain my weight. Fingers crossed!

    Day 9, London, UK, NFD

Just checking in after a normal FD yesterday, got hungry at 4pm, so I had soup, then more soup for dinner at 7pm, overall a successful 21:3.
Woke this morning 0.6lbs down from yesterday, but not taking much notice as Sundays are my weigh in day and daily weigh-ins just keep me honest!!
Anyhoo, this morning decided to try size 16 trousers which were a little tight (they actually used to cut off circulation at the waist, If I dropped Β£20 on the floor, it would bl*#dy well stay there, β€˜cause I couldn’t bend to pick it up without having some passing stranger’s eye out with popping buttons!!)
Soooo, not only do they fit but they come off without undoing the button!!! Absolutely unheard of!! I’ve been using braces with my size 18s which I’ve had to relegate to the charity pile further to comments in the office……….some people have no filter!!! Although not exactly β€˜clown-pants roomy’ (official terminology) on the thighs, the size 16s are gaping at the waist…………. I’m sure there are skinnys who wouldn’t get this, and probably think I’m disproportionally happy, but it is a MASSIVE thing for me as I’ve NEVER worn anything that wasn’t a β€˜big girls copy’ of something trendy which never works proportionally…………..I’m big, people, but I’m not 6ft 5”!!!!!!!

Anyway, good luck all for today!! May we soon all discover we own clown pants!!
PS. Don’t start me on the unappealing site of loose knickers………… scary!

Catching up with posts this evening.

Day 9, Dunsborough, Western Australia, FD

I seem to remember putting Day 9 for my last post. Was it this morning?? I don’t think so 😏 I think it was yesterday. Sorry @lynzm. I hope you’re not as confused as me!! I think it’s time for bed 😴

Best FD ever. It was a breeze and hardly thought about food all day long. Doing 23/1 which works so well for me.

    Happy fasting everyone.

    Day 9 – FD – Canada
Off to dentist, will check in on posts later. Looking forward to fast day. Am suspicious that there is something else, besides gluten, that I have an intolerance for as I’ve been having lower back pain every day for the past week. Not looking forward to figuring that one out.

@flourbaby Your trousers issue sounds intriguing. Now you can pick up that Β£20 without disaster, can I borrow it?

I think looser clothes are THE best sign of progress, when your trousers fall down on their own. Hopefully not in public. I first realised how large I’d got by trying to put on a fitted shirt that I’d last worn the year before. I gave it the old “must’ve shrunk in the wash like the other stuff” shrug-off, but deep down I knew the reality was that I would have to give up my 2-year not-for-charity Eatathon a few months early.

Well done! Celebrate with a carrot, or something… πŸ™‚

    @ciren2 Yeah – well done πŸ™‚

    @lynzm

Sorry I’ve been so crap at posting and not been checking in. Life (work, I mean really) is just getting in the way of everything… πŸ™

I am not sure when it was when I last checked in but I have it all on MFP so going from Feb 1st.

    Feb 1: FD
    Feb2:FD (73 cals over)
    Feb3: NFD (weigh-in: 64.2)
Feb4: TERRIBLE NFD (too much vino as always!!)
    Feb5: NFD
    Feb6:FD
    Feb7: FD (72 cals over)
    Feb8: FD
    Feb9: FD

    Tomorrow is my weigh-in day.

I will hopefully be able to check in more frequently and catch up on all of the posts. Miss reading the stories. Hope you are all doing amazing and enjoying this fantastic WOL. πŸ™‚

    Peace x

type: meant to say 64.8 for weigh-in on 3rd. haha look at me trying to get few grams off! :-O

Day 9 – SW WA USA – FD

Did fairly well on yesterday’s NFD. Ate moderately at staff taco bar. In the evening I went to the pantry too many times for one more piece of dark Dove chocolate. Maybe I need not to buy them for a while. I need to keep only things I can control portions.

Wondering about this 23:1 that a few are talking about. If one does that continually, isn’t that almost like fasting all the time instead of intermittently? On the 5:2 original it’s 2 days of “1” meal; the 23:1 seems like 0:7 of one meal a day. I’m a little confused.

Day 9, USA, Missouri Ozarks, NFD

Today’s Weight 147.6, Starting Weight last Sunday 152, Goal Weight 145

Off for a day of shopping and eating with friends (a weekly event).

Had a great day yesterday, fast went great, exercise went great, fluid intake great, slept great. So, yes a great day !

Hoping the same for each of you.

    Day 9|FD|Toronto
Terrible CD/NFD yesterday as my schedule was off; movie popcorn , candy, and ending day with low end Chinese food at 9:00 pm.

    Day 9 Portugal FD

Haven’t had time to read all posts but hope everyone is doing well.
So this is my third attempt at a FD this week, the first two with no success. So far so good today … just liquids so far and looking forward to an early dinner of stir fried veg. Hoping to continue with b2b fast tomorrow and perhaps Sunday too, with a healthy NFD on Saturday. My mind seems to be in the right place today so here’s hoping I make it.

Like others, I need to drink more water … could that be reason for poor sleep and headaches?

    Day 9 – Cumbria UK – NFD

Good FD yesterday – did try for a water fast but did not get there……at the interval at the ballet had a glass of proseco and some peanuts with my friends – not sure why I did but at least it still was a successful FD as under 400cal consumed in total!!!
Broke my fast this morning with elevenses out with the OH – Lovely cheese scone and damson chutney (but no butter!) with an extra strong semi skimmed latte at our favourite local cafe – bliss!! That will see me until dinner tonight – drinking plenty of tea and hot water with lemon this afternoon – a very cold day in Cumbria today!

@ciren2 you did it!! YAY – so happy for you, I knew you had this all along – let me know when your next FD is and I’ll hold on to you tight again xx
@coda – love your quote about being kind
@mamacat – your post on Day 8 regarding food as a reward is unfortunately how we all thought at one stage and still do at times!!!!!! I now choose to reward myself in others ways – having a manicure or pedicure, buying some flowers, having some me time e.g. a long soak in the bath or reading a book or simply doing some yoga or meditation – basically anything that gives me pleasure and if food comes into the equation I tell myself “Do not reward yourself with food you are not a dog”
@songbirdme – lovely salmon recipe – I’ll be trying that one soon – thank you for sharing
@lilymartin – loved reading your Day 9 post – it’s amazing how we all find different things work for us – I have also reduced my carb intake drastically since starting this WOL but I still enjoy a bit of cake every now and then. I tend to eat brown rice and spelt pasta and very rarely a slice of the OH home made bread (he uses Khorasan and/or spelt flour) Even though I am at maintenance(since beginning of Dec) I still do 2 x FD a week as it has allowed me the freedom not to calorie count on the other days and still maintain plus the health benefits from fasting is what really attracts me to this WOL.
@happymargo – hope all good news at your appointments today – sounds like you have been recovering well since the surgery x
@hannahwatto – amazing will power and control and you are absolutely right in that there is something self satisfying when you can abstain despite all the temptations around you……..
@bert1802 – good to read such positivity – getting a good sleep nightly makes such a difference! and like you I think drinking plenty of water helps a lot – I try to get in at least 2000mls each day
@pashaw – sorry to hear about your OH – hope he recovers soon – good on you for staying on track despite your worries

Well done to all those losing weight and keeping faith in this WOL – and those who are struggling keep going you will get there – Together we are stronger!

    Reid and Erika:
Good luck with your fast today.
Drink LOADS OF WATER Erika…have a glassful to hand at all times!
AT: I’m planning fast-day number two for SATURDAY 11th February. Thanks for your support…in advance xx

2-9-17 NFD – Just now read the February challenge….we’re now up to 2/9/17, so I’m 8 days late…would love to be added. Started IF on 1-7-17 at 191.6 lbs. and have lost 4.2 lbs so far. My goal is to continue to lose 1 lb. per week until I get to my goal weight of 150 – around mid-October 2017.

    Day 9 Canada NFD

    Day 10 FD MELB AUS

    Hannahwatto @johnnyr made me laugh!
Having one of those days where Dentist appt. took 2.5 hours due to delays and just made my 10 yr old an awesome lunch and I’m pulling out all the willpower stops NOT. TO. EAT. Will relax and have a few cals at lunch when I’ve stuck to my 18hrs fast on the way ‘in’ to FD cals.
Sometimes I just make things difficult. Is it willpower? Is it OCD? Bit of both.
Mamacat & another mum – I’ve found a very thorough kitchen skills for kids course online. Here – https://kidscookrealfood.com/closed-now-kids-cook-real-food-ecourse/
My younger kids 7&10 boys are doing it and they are digging it.
My HIT exercise is on the elliptical at the Y on FD (this evening). It’s a pre-programmed one called ‘speed bump’. I just hit level 5 and it puts me in all the right heart rate zones for HiT. I don’t have great knees, and my resting heart rate has always been close to 80, not great. I appreciate that it is no bounce.

Way to go @ciren2 and @flourbaby!
@erika45 – I hope today goes well for you – you can do it!
@eternallygrateful – got to say I love the name and your attitude!

Day 9, NFD, Rocky Mountains, US

    Hello,

Had a good FD yesterday. I did 21:3. A shorter food window on FD seems better for me. On NFD I do 18:6. No food after 4PM.

Love all your posts. Really helps a lot. Thanks!

All the best to all of you!

    Ciao!

    Day 9 / Sweden / FD

A very good FD today. I do think about food a little more than usual on FD but had no actual hunger. In fact it’s evening now and I still have 130 kcal left to play with. If I want to.

My goal this weekend is to eat to my TDEE every day until my next FD on Monday.

Hugs to all my fellow 5:2’ers! You are great support.
    Cheerio!

    Day 9 Norway NFD

    Day 9 USA FD

    Day 9 UK FD
The day has passed uneventfully. Had less than 500cals and though it is only 7.30pm I am not prone to evening munchies so I shall polish my halo and say FD is complete!

    Day 9- Montreal – NFD

I had a restrained NFD yesterday, and managed to avoid the usual pitfalls of the staff cafeteria. I now bring a thermos of tea to work and try and drink two during the night. I have prepped my FD meals in advance for tomorrow so am READY!
Here are the links to my favourite FD meal yet:

    http://www.skinnytaste.com/thai-coconut-curry-shrimp/
http://www.skinnytaste.com/cilantro-lime-cauliflower-rice/ (I add the lime zest too)

I am also keeping my new WOL to myself (and hubby). I’ve noticed people like to sabotage my efforts, with negative comments. What I like about the 5:2 is it is so adaptable, so I can plan it around dinners at friends etc. Also my 9 year old girl isn’t even aware I’m doing it as I eat at work. I’m very conscious of giving her a positive body image and never making comments about weight loss around her. Some of her friends do gymnastics and are already counting calories etc!

    Day 10 – Sydney – NFD

Finally had a chance to catch up on a few posts this morning.
Well done to those of you who have just done your first/second fast day for the month. And best wishes for those really keen to make another one happen!

Weigh in today: 78.8 (80.4 on the 1st of Feb) so I’m happy to see that weight slowly going.

On my last few fast days I’ve only eating one meal, but it’s tended to be quite late in evening (8-9pm),even just before bed, because that’s when I’ve been getting home. So this week I might try eating at lunch, or waiting until the next morning, depending how I’m feeling.
