  • Ok so at the moment life has been quite difficult but i want too give this fasting stuff a real shoot im not quite ready for 5-2 have tried it im wondering on 16-8 and how succesful you find it. I eat my last meal at 5pm every day and maybe fruit or yogurt before 6pm so would i wait till ten am too eat a small brekkie or go through till midday and then have lunch plus dinner at five how do you work it? Also does missing breakfast make that much difference many thanks mb x

    I am currently doing 16-8 as I find fast days torturous. I usually have dinner at 6ish then i’ll have lunch at around 11:30ish but I do start my day with a large thermos full of black coffee. I find that eating breakfast wakes up my appetite and i’m hungry the whole day. Now i’m not that hungry throughout my day. I grew up thinking that breakfast was the most important meal of the day so I always ate it. I am overweight and on this diet I have lost around 1/2 a kilo a week since mid january and so far have lost almost 5kgs. I’m sure it would be more if I exercised. I like this way of eating as it’s not hard or time consuming. I have better things to do with my time than count calories.

    Like vercasesp, when I eat breakfast, even when all protein, it triggers an appetite. I decided not to eat until noon. Then because most guidance on eating recommends a cut off time, I chose 6 p.m. I also instituted some other rules. The major ones being no sugar and no watching TV or reading when I eat. I’ve lost three pounds a week painlessly for a month. My focus shifted to what I am going to eat rather than what I wish I could eat but can’t. I am not counting calories but using good sense about carbohydrates. I do eat bread (no more than 2 slices per day) and potatoes (not more than twice a week.) When I crave a sweet, I have walnuts and raisins or fresh fruit and non-fat Greek yoghurt and use a small dish. Without planning, I have been eating much closer to the ground. I eat at noon, usually have a small serving of something around 2 or 3 and then my last meal at 5:30 or so to be done by 6.

    I could not sustain an eating plan that would require a fasting period longer than 18 hours but I think restricting eating time to the six-hour window has benefited me as it doesn’t feel like a diet. Only downside is I want to talk with others and no one I know is doing time-restricted eating. Delighted to find this forum.
