  • I’m so encouraged by reading all of your successes. Yesterday was my first fasting day and I’m excited to continue.
I’m starting to panic a bit, though. I see many people on this maintenance thread (in other words, people who’ve had success) describing their non-fasting days’ meals as salads, grilled chicken, and veggies. I know that I won’t stick to such a bland diet. I need to be able to eat pasta, tacos, wine, desserts, pizza, and other such foods. Grilled chicken, vegetable soup, and salad forever sounds miserable.
Please, someone, tell me you made your goals and are maintaining while still eating “real” normal foods that won’t set me up for a binge.
    Anyone?

Silverwing, I i started the 5.2 diet for the health benefits not really the weight loss. I do the 2 days of fasting a week and on the other days I eat whatever I like including all those yummy foods you describe. Some days I go way overboard and others I cut back so I think it really adds up to your total weekly calories in versus out. If you go way over with too many calories in the week you won’t really lose weight but you still can eat all of those foods you like, you don’t have to have all low fat grilled low calorie foods if that’s not your preference. It will work for you as long as you don’t go overboard every day and I know because I love my high fat high carb food too but in moderation lol Good luck, it really does work 🙂

you can succeed on 5:2 and eat any foods you want, just in moderation as gemm says. You may find however that your tastes will shift more towards the lighter, healthier options. Mine did and it seems that has been the case for a lot of people. I still eat things like burgers, pasta, tacos, etc and I definitely still eat desserts. But I also get excited now for things like grilled chicken, fish and vegetables – and I never would have believed that would happen!

Hi, I am starting tomorrow, for the health benefits. I too plan on eating what I like on the other 5 days, but in moderation (no stuffing myself). That’s the beauty of this plan!

I’ve only done one week of the 5:2 diet and lost 2.9 lbs. I am already at my WW goal weight but wouldn’t mind having another two or three more off. I think variety is important in life and especially with food. There are surely many ways to cook low calorie. The internet is a wonderful resource, the library, the 5:2 cookbooks. I hope to avoid boredom that way.Hope this is helpful.
