  • Hey all,

I seem to always get a sore throat when I only drink water (or other water-based liquids like tea, coffee) throughout the day without any solids in between. Other than that I quite enjoy not eating anything on fast days but that scratchy throat is doing my head in.

The same happens to me when I when I have the flu. I can’t survive on tea alone because it’ll kill my (already hurting) throat. I always need to have small amounts of porridge no matter how nauseious I feel or my throat gets too scratchy/sore to bear. I always thought it was psychological but now that it happens twice a week I’m not so sure anymore.

Does anyone have this problem when living off liquids on fast days? Anything I can do about it? Lemon/honey (anything to cure a sore throat) tend to make it worse, not better.

Hi, I got that as well, soon as I broke my fast and ate something. As if my throat had become unused to food. It was quite painful and passed in an hour or so – so I didn’t really do anything about it.

Hi, I also got sore throat when I started this diet, (which was just last week). It started on the fast day but then disappeared the next day. This week however I still have a slight sore throat the next day (and seem to be developing a phlegmy cough too – unless this is something unrelated). My sore throat wasn’t bad enough to do anything about it – more of a minor inconvenience. I don’t really know why fasting seems to cause a sore throat. Does anyone have any ideas?
