  • I have been reading “Physics of the Future” by Michio Kaku and came upon this passage under the heading “Caloric Restriction”:

“…caloric restriction (that is lowering the calories we eat by 30 percent or more) increases the life span by 30 percent. Every organism studied so far … exhibits this strange phenomenon. Animals given this restricted diet have fewer tumors, less heart disease, a lower incidence of diabetes, and fewer diseases related to aging. In fact, caloric restriction is the only known mechanism guaranteed to increase the life span that has been tested repeatedly, over almost the entire animal kingdom.”

I recommend the 5/2 diet whenever I get the chance.

    It is fascinating, isn’t it?

Personally, I don’t think too much in terms of increased life span because those added years are our LAST years, which generally are not so much fun. Instead, I prefer to think of improved quality of life RIGHT NOW or VERY SOON.

I was raised in an apocalyptic fundamentalist cult that was always looking forward to the end of the world “any minute now.” In the century during which those people have been preaching what they consider “good news,” NOTHING has happened. They have been 100% wrong with their speculations, expectations and anticipations.

The comedian Sam Kinison once asked, “You wanna spend an extra five years with a colostomy bag?” No, Sam, I do not.

I think that as a result of this “end of the world” meme, I am adverse to thinking that 30 years from now (when I’d be 95) I’m going to be having a ball. Here and now are more important to me.

” I am adverse to thinking that 30 years from now (when I’d be 95) I’m going to be having a ball. Here and now are more important to me.”

Is it possible to have both, fun now and fun in the future?
