Doesnt everyone fast because surely if you have a meal at say 7pm then go to bed and sleep til say 7 and have breakfast at 8am that means you’ve fasted whilst sleeping?

There are several ways to answer that question:
1. some people dine at 7 pm, and then snack until midnight when they go to sleep.
2. yes, while you sleep you are not eating. = fasting. But if that’s all it takes, then everyone would be slim, wouldn’t they? Let’s call that ‘passive fasting.’
3. if one wants to lose weight, more action is needed. = active fasting. Which means lengthen the interval between last meal and first meal [18:6 style] or reducing the amount of calorie intake certain days/week [5:2 fasting] or eliminating food completely on certain days/week [water fasting].
Fasting has many descriptions. Are you thinking of using Fasting to lose weight? Which sort?
