  • Was just reflecting on how much I love this way of life. My favourite thing is that it can be picked up again so easily!

I had a week “off” as my best friend was visiting, and there was much food, wine and laughter. I felt no guilt as this is for life, and life is for living. She went home this morning and so I have just eased straight into a fast day (water only)with no issues at all, and will be hitting the gym tonight like I’d never left. Oh, and I only gained half a kilo during my week “off” and I know that it will be gone by the end of this week and I’ll be back on my downward journey.

The flexibility is what I makes me sure I can do this forever.

What do you love about 5:2, and what was the “a-ha” moment that made you realise you could easily do it for life?

What I love about 5:2 is that there are no forbidden foods so I don’t feel like I’m dieting! I’m also going to offer a close second is that 5:2 has made me more conscious about my choices and I’ve been making healthier selections since starting this way of life!

Oh well, once I get started, I can’t stop! Another thing I like is that it actually works and long term! I reached goal and when I look back, I realize how doable this is for life!

I’m on maintenance and I like that I’m able to eat above my goal weight TDEE on NFDs by simply continuing to add that second fast day into my schedule each week. For every other weight loss program I would be chained to counting calories for the rest of my life to maintain goal weight.

I love the fact the it works!…It might be slow (and certainly is for me!) but I am losing weight – more than I ever thought possible! (From 22+ stone down to around 13 stone 9 and a bit…and the rest WILL go too!….and most of this was lost on 5:2)

I love the fact that it works despite the fact that I have so much going against me (older female, health issues, unable to exercise)..if it works for me it’ll work for anyone!

I love the fact that it is so flexible. I can switch my fast days every week…someone coming round for coffee/cake? Fine, I will enjoy a slice of cake (just the one!) and fast tomorrow instead.

I love the fact that I can eat so well, even on fasting days!…I have a stock of favourites…fish pie is definitely near the top of my list…I can even have fasting day sausage and mash.

I love the fact that I no longer wear clothes from an outsize specialist marked letters instead of numbers…XXXXXL!!!! (and I squeezed my flab into them!)…I can now buy from High Street shops if I want (well most High Street shops, and the teens shops sellings nothing bigger than a 14 are not my style!)

And I love that I can now wear pink jeans!

Buttonboots you’ve been an inspiration to me since I started this. I love hearing what you love about the plan, but mostly that you can now wear pink jeans! You go girl, you are a phenomenon.

Im on the Fast diet for nearly 4 years and I love it! Is a way of life for me and my husband ! I love that I have no forbidden food ! And also made me eat salads xa xa Made me eat healthy food ! And less sugar.

    Hi Elphaba,

What do I love about 5:2? Everything! How shall I love thee? Let me count the ways.

    1. It works. Mid 60’s, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) of 18 yrs, both aerobic and non-aerobic exercise are contraindicated. That means things like having a shower, grocery shopping, washing my hair, making a meal, going to a necessary appointment, getting dressed, getting ready for appointment, getting to appointment, etc, etc, etc are all ‘exercise’ for me. Having spent 2years in bed, 4 further years housebound, and another 12yrs slowly slowly getting tiny bits better 5:2 has been a revelation. Going from very fit and very healthy overnight to a catastrophic viral illness, the consequent ME/CFS and the devestation it wrought in my health and life caused large changes physically. This included a 30kg weight gain. When well enough to be able to shop properly and prep simple healthy food I started on my weight loss challenge. It took 6yrs to get 10kgs off then I could go no further and wouldn’t go the usual weight loss yo-yo route. Enter 5:2 and 2yrs later I am back to a normal weight and 19kgs down, with 2 to go. Due to cvery stressful circumstances starting a year ago I went to maintenance mode for 8 months (still doing 5:2) then continued weight loss., Weight loss phase has been 16months and will be 1 month more. This is the only way I could lose weight and lose it in a healthy manner.

    2. I am totally off blood pressure medication – in 2 steps. Yearly batch of cardiac tests are no longer needed. ME/CFS often causes cardiac anomolies in more senior people. I still have the cardiac anomaly but the weight loss has meant my heart functionhas improved so much that I don’t need yearly monitoring. Before 5:2 my ceiling heart rate before more damage to my energy production occured was quite low. Now it’s gone up meaning I walk a little quicker, can go up another couple of steps, can walk of very low slopes continuously rather than stp start. These may seem small gains, but they are big, very big changes for me.

    3. I have danced. Not for long, not verybenergetically, but have danced!!!!!

There are more but I will leave it there by concluding that 5:2 has given me back more of me, and it’s my normal face I see in the mirror.

    3.

Always love your posts MerryMe but especially this one. I have a friend who suffers from CFS. It is absolutely horrendous. And I LOVE that you have danced at last!
