  • Started really well, 5kg off in six weeks, then nothing for 2 weeks in fact the scales say one back on but i can ignore that fluctuations and all that. anyone else stall so soon, i’ll keep going but i have a lot to lose another 25kg in fact so its not because i’m nearly there. Just a bit disappointed i think.

Really depends on how you are doing your 5:2 and what you are eating on your FD and NFD. Unless you trick your body into thinking that it isn’t really “fasting” it will reduce your metabolic rate to compensate for the reduced calorie intake. I started at 92kg, got to 84kg then stalled for 2 weeks and then it stalled again at 78kg and finally got to my self imposed 72kg weight.

If you are eating simple carbs like bread rice pasta and sugary stuff your body will be storing all that as fat as fast as it can because it knows you will be fasting!! Are you eating 500 cals on your fast days? Try doing one that is zero cal, just water. Try going for a gentle one hour walk every day. I do this during my lunch break at work. Its easy. You need to kick start the process again with a little bit of extra activity as I suspect your metabolic rate has slowed to match your reduced calories. You have to chase success, it wont chase you.

Hi Hellcat, we are used to miracle diet stories and can’t help but get disappointed when we are doing everything we can and the scales, or our mirror, or whatever we are using to judge ourselves, doesn’t respond.

But doing something for longterm health, like 5:2, requires us to put those expectations aside as much as we can. We will have fits of despair and frustration, but keep plugging on because our bodies work in complicated ways, and the miracle diet idea is pretty limited at the best of times.

You might like to read the lovely post Simco wrote about his trousers, that illustrates the issue beautifully: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/really-no-weight-loss/

Just been reading through some of the previous posts on here, i’m new, seems quite common, on the plus side i’ve been wearing stuff i didnt wear last winter as it was a bit snug so all good, i’ll definitely keep it up as i haven’t broken the 100kg barrier in some years so very pleased. The 0 cal day just water wouldn’t be for me, i do quite an active job, theres no way i could do it without keeling over or eating a patient. Think my labradors will be getting an evening walk this week as well as their morning one.

That’s the go, Hellcat. Have a lovely walk with those Labradors, and all power to you.

well looks like i jumped the gun after a no alcohol weekend and sticking to the 5.2 theres another half a kg gone. woohoo. maybe just moderate the weekend alcohol a little then.
