  • Im planning on making one of the 500 calories day be a 24-hour fast to see the best result. I guess the best approach is to drink a lot of water to prevent acidity and keep the stomach full.

Yep I agree. Just joined today As well. Let’s do it! What’s your target weight?

Keep going! Definitely drink lots of water. On my fast days I also drink black coffee and herbal tea. I break the fast at around 7pm with a single meal of 500 calories.
I’ve only been living 5:2 since the end of January, but it’s already starting to feel like second nature. My health has improved and I’ve had the added benefit of dropping 11kgs.
    Good luck!

Without wishing to be rude, if you need motivation before even completing one fast (or 24 hours in your case) then I would question whether intermittent fasting is for you.
Your motivation should be that you need to lose weight and that you are absolutely guaranteed to succeed if you do 5:2 properly. There is no question that you will be lighter and that you will be healthier as you progress.
The very worst that will happen to you, if you have no underlying health problems, is that you will feel a little peckish on your fast days. If you can handle that very minor feeling of hunger then you will do just fine.

I’m new too — well, I’ve been following this WOE and lurking here for 2 weeks. It’s been great so far. Most of the posts and posters here have been very encouraging and helpful, so don’t lose heart. Just get going and stay going!

Just do it. I tried doing 500 calories for the first two weeks and then said what the heck, I think it might be easier to do a complete fast instead. So in I jumped. Last meal was on Sunday at 6pm and then the next meal was on Wednesday at 8am. Did my two fast days on Monday and Tuesday. Weird as this sounds it was easier than only eating a little bit. If you can hang in there for 2 weeks it gets a lot easier. I now only do 6:1 as Ive hit my weight and am in maintenance mode. After about a month I wasn’t even waking up hungry on the Monday as my body had gotten used to it. Just hang in there for a month and give it a genuine try.
