  • If you are reading this and in your sixties, you, like me, are smart enough to know that you have tried many diets in the past and appreciate the science behind 5:2 fast diet. You are smart enough to know which foods are high calorie, empty calorie and good calorie, to know your food triggers, and to know how to sabotage yourself if you’re feeling down ‘n out. You may be living alone or with a spouse/partner, happily or sadly; your health may be top-notch or “betraying” you with this ‘n that ailment; and you may be retired or working, either because you have to or because you want to.

Those of us in our sixties have decades of memories of how things were and how things are today. And in that way, regardless of where we live, we can become a community that understands one another, perhaps more than someone much younger.

I am a newbie to 5:2, but not to dieting; I really know exactly what I have to DO. Anyone interested in joining a community of smart enough sixties who can help steer one another towards success?

I am 70 and will join you young folks.

    LOL 😉
In what part of the globe do you live?

    Hello, Jbaca,
I’m from upstate New York where it is brisk and cold outside.

I’ve been successful on intermittent fasting when I followed a similar concept in the 1980s, called the Rotation Diet by Katahn MD. It was a 3 week cycle. I am ready for a variation, 5:2

Are you tracking 500 calories or 600 calories per fast day? Do you follow a routine on those 2 days?
    Diane

I live in Pocatello, Idaho, am 66 and recovering from a debilitating illness. I had lost 113 lbs (starting at 365 lbs)from May 2014 to Oct 2015, but then hit a plateau. I had gained 18 lbs back so started 5:2 a couple of weeks ago to see if I can break the stall. I lost 8 lbs the first week, but now it’s creeping back on as with all the other methods I’ve tried. I’ve decided that with my body still healing, I will try a combination of the healthy ways of eating that have worked in the past including The Gabriel Method, The Adrenal Reset Diet and others. It doesn’t work for me to eat “whatever I want” even within reason and keeping calories under 2,000 0n non-fast days. I have made a plan and eating schedule that I will follow for awhile to see if I get better results. Good luck to all in this group! We “elders” have a challenge with metabolism and other aging factors such as some medications. I hope together, we will be able to find success.

I just registered today. I would love to join this group. I’m a 61 year old woman in the US.

I just registered today too! Looks like most smart enough sixties plus are from the U.S. Then again, while we are awake in the States, the other side of the world may be asleep 😉

Chris, It certainly can be depressing/upsetting/frustrating/limiting for those of us who have any kind of debilitating or inflammatory disease. Among other things, I have trochanteric bursitis in both hips, so as much as I want to get up and get out, it’s often not possible.

    Hang in there!

Diane, it does sometimes get me down when I can’t move around as much as I would like. Bad back and knees, but progress just the same. I had to relearn how to walk and drive after three years in bed. Got off the walker this time last year, but still can’t gain much distance or time except for an odd good day here and there. Well, tomorrow will be my 3rd fast week. I do like the fasting and don’t find it difficult most of the day. It feels good to have control over at least one aspect of my life for a little while. 🙂

Chocolette, what state are you from?

JBaca16, I lived in Albuquerque for a short time many years ago. Prettiest sunsets in the West!

How is everyone doing? Yesterday I had 500 cal. Not at all easy, but doable. It’s really about keeping the goal in sight. Particularly when I’m feeling stiff and sore, I just want to numb those aches and pains with food.

Diane, doing well on my fast today except for a bit of headache and some fatigue. 490 cal and not hungry at all tonite. It does help that I’m busy at church on Sundays. One of the main reasons that I chose that day. Good for you for hanging on even through pain. Food is also my comforter. Ironic as it is more than likely what causes my aches and pains. LOL.
