  • Hi all,

So I’m a newbie to the 5:2 diet. I’m 27 years old, and have been overweight for most of my life and all of my adult life. I’ve got to the point where I can’t even weigh myself because I am so worried about what the number says, and I know that isn’t healthy! I’m not obese (I asked my doc to tell me if I was), but I am overweight, and I do need to lose weight. I’m going to guess my BMI is around 28-29, which is far too close to obese for my liking! I’m a UK size 14 and would love to get down to a size 8/10. Then once I’m the right size I’ll weigh myself and track that way :p At the moment, I am tracking my progress through measurements.

I’m at 6pm on fast day 1. To be honest, it’s not been so bad – I’ve not really been hungry, just weirdly…zoned out, if that makes sense? I’ve made a giant pot of veggie stew for dinner with some lentils (271 cals). Other than that, I’ve had two sticks of celery, some salt, a tomato, and a diet instant soup thing, which came to around 92 calories. After dinner, I think I’m going to have some frozen fruits and low fat yogurt to bring me up to the full 500cal for the day.

No other diet has worked for me – I’ve been on them bloody all. I hate calorie counting and restricting because I enjoy food and wine, and I find myself becoming consumed with guilt. So, I’m planning to do the super low calorie days twice a week, and go to the gym 3 times a week (on non-fasting days). The lovely thing about this diet is that I get to play around with low calorie recipes, and I love cooking and inventing new dishes. I might even get my boyfriend to eat some of the greenery :p

So, looking forward to meeting you all, and please let me know if you have any tips, tricks, and how you’ve all done 🙂

    Hi MissMurphtang

I’m also a newbie to this site, and it seems like we have a similar journey ahead of us. I’ve never really used a forum before, but I can’t see any harm in a bit of a extra support and motivation!

I’m 24, and my weight just seems to be creeping up. I weighed myself last month for the first time in a long while, and was horrified to see my BMI was up to 28…so it’s time for a change! I’m currently a UK size 16, but would love to get back to a size 10/12.

I’ve been following the 5:2 diet for three weeks now, and have noticed a difference. I’ve lost 1lb a week, but I’m trying to go off how loose my clothes are getting instead of obsessing over the scales!

I’ve struggled to stick to other diets in the past, but with 5:2 I love that I don’t feel like I’m depriving myself, and I still get my treats! I’m a big foodie, so this is definitely a bonus.

Love the frozen fruit and yoghurt idea – sounds perfect for getting over the sweet cravings that strike in the evenings of a fast day!

Which days are you going to be fasting? I’ve found Monday and Wednesday works best for me, and weigh in on a Thursday morning.

    Good Luck!

Hi, thanks for responding. Yeah it does sound like we’ve reached similar points of “ACK!” haha 3lbs in 3 weeks is great! I hope I get similar results. My mum is actually doing the diet too and has been on it a week and has lost 1kg already! But she is very good at exercising and runs a lot so that’s probably what’s done it :p

I’m eating the yogurt and frozen fruit, it’s like diet icecream 🙂 Amazing after a long day at work when I just want a treat.

I’m planning on fasting Monday and Wednesday, but it might change as my boyfriend works shifts (four nights on, four off) and I can see him making it hard to stick to the fast days, because he likes to buy sweets and munch them on the sofa, which is just uuuurgh so tempting!!

    Good luck! 🙂

    Hi MissMurphtang and FoxRed,

I am also in a similar situation to you both I’m 26 years old and i wear a size 16 and would love to get down to a size 10/12. This is the heaviest i have ever been and i have had enough. I have quiet a few events going on next year (Hen-dos and weddings) in which for once i would like to feel at my best. I have tried so many diets Weigh watchers being my fave but i just loose motivation. one of my close friends started this diet last year and she has lost nearly 3 stone and looks amazing.

I am starting at bootcamp next week which is 3 days a week plus my normal 2 days of running. i have been using the 5k app to get myself motivated and am in my 6th week but my eating habits are terrible.

I am looking at starting a fresh on Monday i just hope i can keep hold of my willpower.

Look forward to hearing from you.

    🙂
