  • Hello all, I am just starting the fast diet. I have had success in the past with medically supervised fasts, but the weight slowly returns. I am up 20 pounds in the past 4.5 years. I am hoping after losing the weight, this system will help me keep it off. I exercise 3 to 5 days a week, and am very fit—just too heavy . . again!!

I read somewhere that I should skip a day between fasts, but others apparently do not. Is one recommended more than the other?
    thanks

    Hi Allicat and welcome:

    It depends.

People new to dieting in this manner usually find it easier to split their diet days, at least until their bodies become used to the radically different eating pattern that comes with IF.

Also, if losing weight is the goal, splitting diet days causes more ‘dieting’. If you split your diet days you get over 70 hours of dieting per week, while if you do diet days back to back you only get around 60 hours.

    Here are some tip: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

Find a pattern of fasting that is do-able for you and then stick to it. You will find that you get used to it and it becomes a habit. Mine is Mon/Tues or just Mon as I alternate between the two. Im in maintenance mode after losing 40 pounds.

    Hi all,

    Struggling with my weight also.

Actually in the obese category need to lose 50 kg to be in the normal range.

Deciding to do the 5:2 fast, looking for tips and general advice.

This week will be my first week.

Drink lots of water on fast days. Avoid sugar at all costs!!! Avoid simple carbs like bread, pasta, rice etc on your fast days. A simple meal like a big salad (pick green vegetables, avoid sweet veggies like carrots, capsicum tomatoes etc) with protein like tuna will satiate you for a long time. Plain high fat low sugar yogurt with some berries and almonds. Stick to any berry type fruit as they are lower in sugar content.

Good luck, it works, just have a genuine go at it.
