  • Greetings, I’m interested in the 5:2 thing, want to reduce IGF-1 but mostly just eat healthy: When Im “allowed” to eat 2000+ kcal a day I can eat junk and never feel hungry, if I’m only eating 600 a day I’ll have to look for other food unless I want to feel like Im starving.

Health benefits. Yay. But one question remains: IGF-1 Reduction slows cell reproduction, and I want that. But I’m only 18 years of age (182cm, male) and I wondered if the sooner you start the better or if it’ll do more harm than good since the body doesn’t stop growing until 25ish?

    Hi felix,

According to Dr. Michael Mosley, you’ve just reached the age in which 5:2 is recommended, so apparently 5:2 is okay. Any younger and the lowering of IGF-1 would have interfered with your growth. See this stated below, which is from the section of this website under the question of ‘Who is advised not to do IF?’

People who are underweight or have an eating disorder
    Children (under 18 years old)
Type 1 diabetics and diabetics taking medication for their diabetes (other than Metformin)
Pregnant women or breast feeding mothers
    People recovering from surgery
Those who are frail or have a significant underlying medical condition should speak to their doctor first, as they would before embarking on any weight-loss regime.
Those who are not sure about whether it may affect their prescribed medications should to speak to their doctor first.
People feeling unwell or have a fever
Those taking Warfarin should consult their doctor first as it may increase their INR.
People with a history of serious mental health problems.
