Hi everyone
I have just joined the site and wanted to say hello.
I am new to this approach and today is my third fast day and looking forward to a new, much reduced, healthier, happier, me.
All and any help and advice greatly appreciated.

Hello New faster, welcome, I am fairly new too, started 2 weeks ago, I am 1.4 LBS DOWN, YIPPEE!, and feel better, clothes feel better, my recommendation to you is DRINK PLENTY of water, makes a big difference on FDs, when I first started I had bad headaches from not drinking enough, take care and keep on fasting, BTW my FDs are Mon/Fri.
Hi. Did my first fast yesterday. Struggled a little around late morning/lunch time, so kept myself occupied by making Onion Soup (then worked out calories on MFP at 56 for one little portion), which was worth the wait. Not sure to do another one Wednesday or Thursday – due to kids wanting McDonalds (though I wouldn’t have it!).
Well done everyone else.
Hi
I finished the book Sunday and fasted on Monday and again today. I’ve decided to fast all day and only have evening meal of 500 calories, although this may change after the summer.
I’m hoping to stick to a healthy diet (maybe Slimming World or similar) on non fasting days so I don’t over eat. I am also giving up alcohol during the week as this alone should help!!!
I’m visiting family for a few days tomorrow so it will be harder to stick to my TDEE here I’m not in control of preparing my own meals/meal choices but I am going to be positive and strong and not opt for pudding!
Hi there.
I am a 64 year old woman who is pretty blessed with good health. Need to shift a few pounds but am particularly interested in the potential of fasting to minimise the possibility of dementia. Planning on starting my first fast day tomorrow. I have my Fast Diet kitchen supplies sorted and loads of sparkling water and fresh lemons. Wish me luck!
Hi all, I am Katja (46yrs) and I need to shift ideally around 10kg and I also have hereditary risk for Diabetes 2 + high blood pressure, so plenty of reason to do something now!
I started this week as well and today is my second fasting day. First one on Monday was not too bad at all and I already felt kind of lighter.
I noticed straightaway that for me it is best to skip breakfast and eat lunch as late as possible and use most of the calories in the evening.
I am still reading the book and I really want to try the Mexican Pizza mentioned above!
Hi tbell18.
Think that’s quite severe. Does that add up to 500 calories? Hang in I reckon it will get easier
I chose the meals from Fast Diet. Today was my first day and okay but am now kinda wearied and off to bed. It was a busy day and that helped.Trying to decide if I should kickstart and gave my second fast day tomorrow or wait.
Hi everyone, and welcome.
I started fasting at the end of June and initially had great success, but after the holidays etc I need to get back on track 🙂 But I know it works. The best advice I could offer anyone is to have a plan and stick to it, know what you are going to eat and when! Don’t guesstimate your calories, if you have a scales weigh your food the day before and have it ready in lunch boxes or bowls portioned out so you don’t have to think about it.
Have a full bag of washed mixed leaves (10-15kcals) in your fridge on a fast day. Pickled beetroot (bout 25kcals per 50g) is great for adding flavour to a salad without salad dressing and its very low in calories but adds bite.
I also use livestrong my plate to track my calories as I think it’s the most accurate and you can add your own recipes and calculate calorie contents in your recipes too, which is handy, so you can practice your recipe on non-fast days to see how it tastes and if it works for you.
Also, weigh yourself one a week, same day, same time, before food and butt naked, preferably not the day after a fast as it won’t reflect real weight loss, if you only track say on a tuesday you can see your weightloss and it is motivating.
I hope I’ve helped. Where are you guys starting from and what are your goals? I’m 5’5′ female and currently weighing 140lbs, my first goal is 135lbs, then 130lbs and the big goal is 125lbs.
Best of luck to you all, we will get there! And remember to distract yourself when you are hungry, it will pass and you won’t die from one day fasting, you always have the day after to indulge in something nice (but not too naughty) 😀
Good Luck
Hi Jinty18, you’re brave doing 2 fasts in a row, I don’t suffer from hunger pangs much I just feel really tired if I haven’t eaten. Even this morning after having my 500 calls I woke up tired although not that hungry which was a good thing.
Tbell18, I would try eating a bit more, maybe an egg for breakfast then a small meal 12+ hours later and eat up to 500 calories for the day otherwise it might be to hard to keep up, I know I look forward to my meal in the evening even with the 500 calories restriction.
I’m with family now I have resisted the cake (which was surprisingly easy!) but not the cheese and biscuits. Hoping the next few days won’t be too bad and I will fast again on Sunday x
I’m also new at this, but it has been going well. I started on Monday at 145.5 lbs, two fasts and five days later, I’m at 141! (The first time I weighed myself was in the evening before bed, when I’m at my heaviest – since then I have started weighing myself in the mornings when I wake up – so perhaps not totally accurate, but still makes me feel damn good!)
I got so excited that I started a blog today with before photos and everything. I really hope that will push me to work hard and keep up with it.
This forum is such a great support group! I’m so happy I found it
Well….my plan to do two fasts in a row was a failure! Unexpected visitors threw a wobbly on that idea. Weekends for me aren’t practical so…..
Plan is to go for Monday and Tuesday. I would find it easier, I think, to try two days in a row.
I think that using the Fast Diet kitchen meals take so much hassle out of the whole food planning thing.
I made up my 500 calories with some melon in the morning and then FD soup at lunch and FD main in the evening. Was comparatively easy.
