    Simplycurious, I bet the wine was lovely 🙂 I didnt allow myself any this weekend, I dont seem to be able to stop at one glass! I cant actually believe I managed all weekend without any, so feeling quite proud of myself 🙂

    Well … I weighed this morning and I’m down 4lbs! I am feeling SO positive, one week back on this plan and results already. Even if some is water weight, its a loss and I’m loving it! Fasting today and looking forward to the feeling of control 🙂 🙂

    Dragon Fly…you should be proud of yourself-you managed without the wine.I had a glass on Saturday and Sunday. BUT today I am fasting.I will weigh myself next week after 4 days of fasting which means next week on Tuesday morning after Monday FD. So far so good ! 😀 And DF you’ll manage this FD as well.

    So it’s my first FD today and i haven’t done well so far! it’s 9am in the morning and i’ve had a cup of tea and porridge so far. Perhaps if i try and fast now until 6 or 7pm with just sips of water in between. Hope i don’t get headache which is norm for me if i miss a meal, sorry i’m rambling but i’m imagining i’m sitting with friends in a cafe talking about one subject we all have in common! Oh and sipping water! Catch up soon.

    Hi, Frumpiefloss and all the others…
    Since last year of following the way of eating ‘according’ to the book I didin’t do well but then I started eating the way I do now. I don’t feel like needing anything in the morning so I drink ‘bubbling water'(sorry I can’t remember it in English now and I’m too lazy to look it up in a dictionary,but I am sure you know what I mean,maybe it’s sodawater) and nothing else but just a while ago at 11.30 I ate some (frozen bag) vegetables cooked in ½ liter of water+ (ecological)veg.stock cube and a cooked egg. Then black coffee with sips of water. Later today at around 5-6.P.M. I will do the same though not with coffee any more. In between only water,maybe green tea but probably nothing else.I haven’t counted yet but I guess my calories will be under 500.This is now the start.Let’s see if it’ll work for my body as I go on….

    Sorry,forgot to tell that I always eat a tomato and lettuce/meal. I counted the calories and I seem to reach only to 350. It’s not good enough -I have to eat 500 to let go of my 7 extra kilograms.

    Stay strong Floss, you can do it! I’m starting to get the headache now, drink plenty of water and/or herbal tea, it helps and fills you up! Good luck!

    I ate my afternoon meal already now but I felt I needed it. I had extra of vegetables and also a Finn Crisp (it’s a thin rye bread in Finland). I think I got my calories. I also have had headaches both these past FDs (last Thu. and this Mo.) Nothing very bad but I haven’t used to headaches so I feel them easily. I’ll have a large cup of tea later on. Thank you for the supporting notes you write. We have a sunny day here,some +10C – not bad at all.

    I did great until last night. Too much wine and food at birthday party. Way over TDEE. Dragon fly I think I have to watch the wine It really opens up the appetite. I have to not beat myself up about it.

    I am in the first day of my second week. So it’s a fast day for me. I wanted to weigh in but after last night I’m worried about getting on the scale so I may wait till tomorrow. To see how I’ve done.

    It’s 10am here, and my fast day. Am I completely crazy that I’m excited about it? Well, whatever the case, I’ll take it!

    Everyone is doing well, have a positive attitude, and are checking in, that’s a recipe for success. It’s such a pleasure to have this forum, with people from all over the word. Creates a fun and unique perspective.

    And I agree, the wine is so dangerous with me too! I get in a “oh, why not?” mind set for anything food related. Until I reach goal, I’m going to try to avoid it like the plague, but it can be difficult in the art industry, so many events!

    Weigh in this morning= 124.2! Just the motivation I needed going into this week. REALLY want to reach my first goal by my son’s Birthday Nov 28!

    Hi Everyone. This is my second time getting serious with the fast diet. My story is in Nov. 2013 I started the fast diet based on the success my brother in law (he lost 35 lbs and still has kept it off). I did it for 6 months and lost appx. 25 lbs.and then went on to maintain my weight by doing the fast once a week. Then I stopped all together and gained nearly all the weight back. Anyway, I am back at it again and into my second week. Wish me luck!

    Totally agree on the wine. I need to manage that. Very easy to overeat with drinks. Will weigh in tomorrow and see. Got through another fast day ok by had 580 calories but ok with that had a hard 60 min spin class.

    Hello people ,I would luv to join . Just came across the 5:2 diet a week ago (where have i been )and I started the same day ..I have lost 5 lbs in the first week . Probably it was water weight but even then it gave me some confidence.I have started my second week but I am so scared that I might not lose the weight again . I have been a yo yo dieter all my life . Name any diet and I have done them all but I am 43 now and this is my last shot . So I am desperate to succeed .. I will be posting my weight weekly . Looking forward to staying intouch with u all .

    Next FD the day after tomorrow -already was to shopping my food for the day !

    My day was okay yesterday, although headache was a major problem. I think I was just overly tired.

    Its a non fast day for me, and i’ll try and put off eating as long as I can. I love how I dont feel ravenous after a fast 🙂 I’ll keep the calories low today as well, and come on here to keep checking in.

    Hi all, welcome to the newbies i’m new myself. Day 1 yesterday wasn’t as hungry as i thought i’d be to be honest. i kept sipping water and even tried green tea Yuk!! i had the occasional tea with a little milk, i think i managed to stay under 500 cal. Well today is another day, pouring down at the moment have only had a cup of tea this morning so far, like you Dragon Fly i’m going to put off eating for as long as i can as well. I’ve bought a yogurt into work in case i just have to eat something but i’m thinking i’ll be ok. Is it ok to just drink tea all day do you think? I thought I’d be extremely hungry by now but I don’t feel hungry at all! Reading through your posts I’m really pleased I don’t like wine so don’t have to try and give it up.

    I haven’t weighed yet, to be honest I’m a bit nervous about getting on those scales! Maybe tomorrow morning I’ll weigh. (smiley face)

    I figured you addressed your writing (maybe) to Dragon Fly but I’d like to comment on your note too. I don’t see it wouldn’t be ok to drink tea all day long if you prefer to do so before eating your meal. About the scales -it’s better to weigh yourself after the FD.I’m sure you have lost weight especially after 2 fasting days one after another. About the wine -for some people even 1 glas of wine tricks you to have something which is not ok during the FD.
    I thought to myself that if I’ll not get down in weight with 5:2 then I’ll try 4:3 for some time but so far the 2 first fasting days gave result so I’ll continue 5:2.
    I think of being a newbie myself because it’s about a year since I tried FD before. I read the book twice before starting these days again.

    Thank you TuulaL for your comment, I’ve had two cups of tea today so far and nothing else and as yet i don’t feel hungry! I wonder how long I will last, I’m thinking of maybe having a small meal tonight and then start eating again tomorrow.

    Tuula I’m so glad you’re seeing results already, I was amazed myself when I saw a loss after one week! Lets keep on with this, it works 🙂

    Floss .. I think its okay to drink tea, I like herbal teas/green tea (although I notice you dont haha) rather than tea with milk in, but I’m guessing regular tea is fine too. I lasted until 1pm when I ate a small sandwich, surprisingly how full I feel after just that. Its amazing how quickly your stomach shrinks, compared to what I was eating at lunch time just a few weeks ago!

    Loving this so far, I’m determined to keep going.

    Its mid morning where I am right now.

    Floss I also echo ok to drink tea all day. I especially drink a mixture of herbal and some back teas (Hazelnut and even chocolate gourmet teas) on my FD and add the Truvia brand Stevia and it really helps. I have to make sure I keep drinking water too.

    I get super cold on fats days so wear lots of warm cloths too. Last night I could not get warm for the life of me so tons of hot tea and wearing fleece!

    Ok I finally weighed this a.m. posy Fast day. I am so pleased! I am sure a lot is water weight and will slow down never the less it will keel me motivated and I have to say reading this posts daily has made a huge difference. I honestly don’t think I could do it without all of your stories, sharing and support.

    So I am 5’4 female. Goal is 126 – 128 lbs (giving myself the 4 lb up and down from there)

    Started
    Monday Oct 10 (started 1st fast day) – 143 lb
    Tues Oct 11 (post FD 1) – 139.5 1b ( a lot of water weight – with exercise I notice these huge 4 lb daily drop and increase)
    Tues Oct 27 (today post fast day 3) – 135 1b!!

    I am thrilled. again I know it will keep shifting and I will not be loosing at this rate but its so hopeful to know its working even if challenging through some of the FB hungry moments.

    Evening! I’m another newbie here!
    I’m 27 and from Norway, though live in England now with my other half and little boy (1.5 years old). I need to lose about 15kg, I lost 12kg on my own, then another 10ish on Slimming World, but wasn’t able to keep it up so regained the 10kg back when I got a bit depressed for a while. Or perhaps I got depressed because the weight was piling back, who knows!

    Anyway, I go on and on. I am here to lose those last 15kg (33lb), get me down to a healthy 58kg / 127lb / 9st 2lb . My BMI will be in a healthy range then, as I’m quite short! I have not been that weight since I was 21, but I cannot wait to be that weight again. I am SO excited to be doing 5:2, and luckily got my other half in on it too, so we can incorporate it as a lifestyle.

    My second Fast Day is tomorrow, wish me luck! 😀

    You are all right it definately works, I started fasting last Mon and did Tues as my second day. I weighed yesterday and had lost 5lbs which is a great start. I am choosing to do my fast days together Mon and Tues each week as I can focus for 2 days and then it is out of the way and I can keep within the 2000 calories for the rest of the week. For me I always have trouble sticking with a diet for very long, I have been on many diets over the years. I am hoping that only having to diet 2 days a week will help me to stick with it. I don’t mind if I only lose 1 pound a week if I can stick to it for 4/5 months or so.

    Hi Rari and welcome:

    You can eat anything you want on 5:2 as long as you keep within the calorie guidelines (500 or less on diet days, TDEE or less on non diet days). Many eat high fat/protein food on diet days because they are less hungry – carbs make you hungry and make diet days more difficult.

    Hi everyone, and welcome to more new faces 🙂

    Half way through the week. My next fast day is Thursday and I’m quite looking forward to it 🙂 Yesterday I was well within my TDEE, although it seems I’m eating a lot compared to my fast days! I had some low cal Gin & Tonic last night 😉 Nice, and I’m still wine free lol! If I can make it to Sunday, its been two weeks. Go me!

    Well done Dragon Fly !! You seem to count TDEE, so far I don’t, lets see later on. My next fast day is also Thursday and I am looking forward to that too.
    I am sure we all will do fine and get good results in weight loss (I need to go down 7kg about 14-15lbs) as well as getting good health markers (my bloodsugar during the day is most important…it’s been good.I though will start to control my morning sugars later on next week-not every day though).

    Tuula, I do try to keep below my TDEE, but I’m wondering if I’m actually eating enough on non fast days. I’m so hungry this morning 🙁 I might have to look at upping the calories a bit on non fast days. I was fine earlier, but its getting near lunch and I’m sooo hungry. This scares me because I dont want to get to a point where I eat everything in sight! Tomorrow is a fast day, so I need to be prepared for that. Hope your days going well x

    Monday and Tuesday were my FD’s and i hardly felt hungry yesterday at all. Today i can eat normally, had my porridge but feel really hungry. I’m almost afraid to overeat but i must try and relax and go with it. I’m at work at the moment and someone has just brought in lemon cake! Oh the dilemma!

    i weighed this morning and it looks like i’ve lost 3lbs ish which is great news, certainly makes me want to continue with the diet. Speak soon (smiley face)

    I had the same reaction as well and was worried about overeating but we have to trust and eat normally otherwise not sustainable. I have been tracking what I eat on s non FD day to help me stay on or below my TDEE which helps a lot until I get to the weight I want then I can see if I have learned intuitively how to manage with out always tracking.

    Hi Frumpiefloss, you said that you fast on Monday and Tuesday. How do you get through the second day? I have tried to do that, but when I do, I have found that by Tuesday I am lightheaded and really can’t sleep at all. As someone mentioned on my fast days I am always cold, and I have to sleep with a extra blanket or two. Do you mix up your foods the second day? How do you get through the second day back to back? Would love to know.

    Dont give up Rari, keep going. Weight can fluctuate for a whole host of reasons. You will soon drop a pound again, a day at a time, stay strong! 🙂

    I decided to have some protein at lunch, as I was so hungry. Now I’m bloated and uncomfortable .. cant win haha! Never mind, looking forward to fast day tomorrow 🙂

    On Monday (my first day) I had 35g of porridge made with water for breakfast and nothing until evening meal (stir fry and beansprouts). I had 3 cups of tea with milk but the rest of the time I had water and because I was at work I sipped the water throughout the day. That night I went to bed expecting to wake up in the middle of the night starving of lightheaded but I slept through till morning.

    On Tuesday I woke up not feeling hungry at all and it was then that I decided to try and do Tuesday as a FD as well. Otherwise I intended to do Monday and Thursdays. I had tea with milk first thing then again at break and then again at lunch and again around 6pm had a weight-watchers meal with yogurt for pudding and another cuppa in the evening and I didn’t feel hungry at all.

    I think the fact that I still had tea with milk and sweetener and sipped water throughout the day, this really helped me. Also I read in The Fast Diet book that Dr Mosley thought most of the lightheadedness was from dehydration and the hunger pangs do go if your keeping busy. He also said that sometimes hunger is all in our heads – I remember I just kept thinking “I can eat normally tomorrow just a few more hours”.

    Oh no! My fasting day went really bad, because I was baking a cake for my sister, and ate some offcuts… Has counted up my calories far beyond 500 🙁 It gets easier when I get used to it though, surely? Also I won’t be doing any baking on fast days again, learnt my lesson!

    Hi all- I’ve just found this forum and its great to see such a lively community. I’m currently two weeks into the 5:2, on day 4 of fasting. I do Mondays/Thursdays to keep myself in a regular routine as much as possible. Eggs have become my best friend to get me through the mornings. I look forward to following you all on this shared journey.

    Does it matter if the fast days are together or split? Really needing to lose some weight so will be aiming under my total calories on normal days

    Mouse2512…I don’t think it matters if the fasting days are together but some people who want to get ‘good’ results eat 4:3 fasting days.You probably know that system but e.g. I thought in case I would not lose weight enough quickly I would keep 3 fast days like Mo.+Wed.+Fr. and then have a weekend the normal way.
    Today is my 4th FD and it’s 8.50 A.M. in Finland now and I think I’ll continue to have only tea,water,bubbling water(sodawater?) until lunch at 11.30-12 and then the afternoon meal around 4-5 P.M. That system has worked well for me a year ago and hopefully works even now.

    Mouse, it doesnt matter which fast days you choose, be they together or split. I wouldnt have the will power to do back to back days though, so I do Mon & Thurs. It works well for me, but everyone is different.

    Woop I lost 2lb from my first week at 5:2, and considering fasting tomorrow as well. I haven’t been able to stick to 500kcal, so really want to be able to do it properly!

    Headache.Drank a large cup of tea. Have to ba awake 4½ hours before going to bed,but I will do it. I wil DO it. I am just drinking water NOT eating,I can stand this. I try to remeber the results…tomorrow is another day (Scarlett in Gone with the Wind).

    I had my second fast day yesterday. It was hard got through it with 600 calories. Did my 55 min on elliptical but a little slower as less energy. toughest part is staying focused at work because I get so spacey . Drank a lot but had a lot of head aches.

    But committed. I figure I am in week 2. I think it will take 10 weeks to get to goal weight then down to 1 fast a week. I am already looking forward to that lol !!!

    Well, headache beat me yesterday, and I ended up not fasting. I’m trying again today though. Work should keep me busy, and I have a bit to do during my lunch break too, which will keep my mind occupied. I do like this plan in that if a fast day goes a bit wrong, you can just try again the next day. I’m feeling positive, and will not let the headache beat me today!

    Have you wondered why you get headaches? Do you normally drink a lot of coffee? Maybe it’s some kind of withdrawal. Are you drinking enough? Sorry, not being nosey just trying to help (smiley face)

    Hi Floss 🙂 thanks for your reply. I do drink plenty of water during the day, so not really sure why I get the headaches. That said, this is only my second week and I’ve been reading on other threads that the headaches do start to go the longer you do this, and your body adjusts. So fingers crossed next week will be easier. Hope your days going okay, thanks for the support, it means a lot xx

    Thank you Simplycurious. The fasting day went by ok but no more lost weight yet. I was supposed to step on the scale on Tuesday after next Mo.(FD) but I weighed myself this morning and it showed the same 0.8kg as it was after the first FD.
    It will start going down, I am sure. On next fasting day I will drink more tea and also eat the way I did on the first FD. Yetsreday I ate e.g quark,cottage cheese,an egg. I know my body doesn’t especially care for milk products (only cream which I haven’t used but I think I’ll have a tablespoonful of it in my coffee next time,it’s about 50calories which I would then count in my 500/day).
