Day 12 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD 16:8
Finding it hard to post in the morning these days. Interesting conversations about non negotiable FD’s twice a week…that’s what worked for me too in the beginning.
So tomorrow will be my first FD of the week and posting it now in case I don’t have time tomorrow.
It’s in my own interests to lose weight and get healthier too…my recent trip to the ED was cardio related, and thankfully I was not having an acute problem, but I have to get a CT in a few weeks to see if there is something going on. Heart problems run in the family, so I really want this to be ok. I do daily cardio exercise and walking but the weight did come on with menopause.
In the last 6 weeks I have found 16:8 Mon to Fri and
Two FDs have slowly helped
I used to be a racehorse on the 5:2, now I am a tortoise, but on I will go. 😍
Day 12….Uk…..FD
It was a breeze today, not sure if I’m just getting used to it or if my carb/sugar avoidance has helped but I didn’t think about eating or feel the need at all today. It’s “bedtime” now so past eating and looking forward to sleep followed by breakfast tomorrow 🍳🥓. I also have been pretty much choosing the same two days in the week, these are days that fit best with my family and plans we usually have etc. I do think a routine like this helps like many of you have said.
@at I know Suffolk well, which part are you visiting? Have a lovely time, the weather is supposed to be good this week
@daffodil2010 the tortoise approach is for sure the best one long term.
I found my copy of “The Fast Diet” this week a nd then checked my Amazon history, I ordered it in 2015 – unbelievable that was 10 years ago!!
Have a good evening all 😊
Day 12 NE England NFD.
Hello all,
I’m back from my travels, we had a really lovely break, so lucky to get so much sunshine. However I have not been mindful at all and the scale gave a groan this morning. I have closed the kitchen after dinner this evening and will not eat again until tomorrow afternoon. I need to get serious again and remember how this feels when we go away again in a few months time!
I will try and catch up with all I’ve missed tomorrow, off to bed now ready for a day of babysitting.
Day 13 country west Australia CD 82.7 kgs
Really good and easier FD yesterday.
@ccco It looks like yesterday was a good FD for several on here.😬
I think @funshipfreddie‘s chat about non-negotiable FDs might have been just the reminder we needed.
It worked for me!!😁
I had a 504 calorie FD courtesy of MFP. I am not a fan of plugging numbers but it helped back in 2016/17 so am resorting to it again for accountability for a short while.
For example on Sunday I actually weighed a very thin slice of cheddar cheese ( don’t recall EVER weighing food before but I was curious as to my guesstimating ability).
Turns out what I thought looked like about 10 gms was actually 25 grams.😱😱
No wonder I am 11.2 kgs ( 22.64 lbs or 1.76 stone heavier than exactly 8 years ago on this thread !!)😲
@anicecupoftea, yes the time goes by so quickly.
Seems like many of us are going back to basics.
@stichincarol, I did a nutrition course for health and healing some years ago.
The complementarity of certain foods can’t be overstated though often we are ignorant of the different foods which work together and those which work against each other. It is fascinating stuff.
Most westerners have a highly inflammatory diet which is contributing to our weight and health issues.
Intrigued to hear you were a vegetarian for some years. Can I ask what changed in 1985? Very curious to know but only if you would care to share. 😊
@northgeorgia, conferences and seminars can be saboteurs to good and restrained eating.
Holding a drink in one hand and a plate ( with just one thing on it )in the other can be a strategy for buffets. Standing away from where the food is and talking with people is another.
And just saying ‘no’ to the food circulating can be difficult in the short term but worthwhile longer term
‘A minute in the mouth, an hour in the stomach and a lifetime on the hips !!’
@daffodil2010, sorry to hear about your cardiac problems and glad it wasn’t acute.
I had to have a calcium score test done recently. Thankfully calcium score is zero and arteries are looking ‘ good for your age’!!
But the doc did advise : More exercise, Mediterranean diet, lose weight – about 12 kgs !! 😲
Resolving to do 2 Non negotiable FDs a week from now on. Motivated Motivated Mindful May 😇
@iona72 glad to have you back safely from your travels and great that you had such a lovely time.
Together we are stronger.
Day 12…….Florida……NFD
I had a great Mothers Day.i was blessed to have all the kids here. They stayed very late, so
I didn’t get a chance to get on.
Today was a pretty gloomy day, it rained and no sunshine. We needed the rain but made for a long hard day as no one wanted to do anything.
It started out as an FD but I messed up and miscalculated my calories and ended up being a controlled day rather than an FD. I think my miscalculations came because I tried to raise my protein intake. Oh well….. there is always tomorrow to try again.
I am pretty happy with my fasting time, staying right around 16-18 hour fasts before I eat. So that’s something.
Not sure what tomorrow will bring maybe another controlled day as I already have Wed. earmarked for a FD.
I’m a bit behind reading everyone post, but I’ll catch up
Day 13 – UK – FD800
Yesterday’s FD800 came in just over 600cals so a success – aiming for another today 🤞
Had a good session with the physio yesterday – recurrent sciatica – assessment followed by pressure point massage and ultrasound therapy – continue with the stretching I have been doing……
Another scorcher of a day – out walking with friends this morning – lots of sunscreen and sun hat is in order
@daffodil2010 – I do hope that all turns out well with your cardiac investigations – like you I too “used to be a racehorse on the 5:2, now I am a tortoise, but on I will go”
@anicecupoftea – I lived in Bury St Edmunds for many years before retiring and moving to the Lake District in 2013 – still keep in touch with many friends there and hoping to catch up with a few during this visit
@northgeorgia – some good advice on how to say NO/AVOID overeating food at events – the first step in restraint is often the hardest but it does become easier
@lilymartin – I’m in the same boat – I started with WOL at 75kg in January 2014 – dropped to around 54kg by January 2017 which was perhaps a bit too low for me – I even dropped further to 52kg and stayed around that until I eventually stabilised around 58kg in February 2021 – this is where I felt my best and was regularly doing my 2x FD and monitoring my NFD but then gradually over the next 4 years I wasn’t following this WOL strictly and slowly the weight crept up to 60kg and now find myself at 65kg……….😱
Right I must go put my walking shoes on and get out the door to meet the gang for our walk before it gets too hot 🥵

Day 13 NZ NFD 69.5kg 🌋🏃🏼♀️
After an atrocious weekend I am back down but am going to out a restaurant for a friend’s birthday shortly… I looked up the menu and there is nothing of any great interest on it so I’m not enthused…
I spent most of y’day at a funeral. One of my best friend’s brothers was killed in a car accident close by to where I live. It’s a complete tragedy as he is a lawyer and heads up his small family. He has a 7 yo daughter whom he doted on and is married to a Mayan woman he fell in love with in Mexico City. She had the most beautiful black wavy hair that reached her waist. After the last service, – there was a Catholic Mass then a church service without eulogies then a secular service with eulogies – she cut her plaits off and laid them on the coffin. With this action she made the transition from a gorgeous young woman to a somewhat ordinary widow…
The driver of the stolen car did a runner and despite having his DNA, the police are yet to apprehend him…
All the best everyone…
Day 13 – USA/GA – FD
Weigh-in: 240 lbs. With just one FD this week, I doubt if I’ll make great progress. However, the gains have been minimal so far, so things are not too terrible.

I’m up a pound from yesterday, but ate excellently yesterday. The logic of what the scales report is not always clear to me, LOL!
It’s great to see so many of you back on here; we missed you!
@at So unfortunate that you’re having such pains again; I hope your stretching, and the treatment you had, are effective in eliminating the pain.
@merryapple What a sad story about the man who died. What’s the logic behind the widow cutting off her hair; do you know the story behind doing so? I remember when I lopped off my butt-length hair (I was 41) and it was HARD, so for her to do so as part of her grief will add to the grief, I’m sure.
@lilymartin The man I was dating abruptly ended our relationship, and he was the true vegetarian, but I cooked for us so often that I learned a lot of details about complementary proteins. 🤷🏻♀️
DH and I are both exhausted. I look forward to getting this move accomplished! I thought of @missybear yesterday; I just looked it up and she last posted on January 6 right after they sold their house and had to be out by/in April, so that’s likely a large part of what’s been keeping her away. The one nice thing about all this moving effort that’s exhausting me so is that, having resolved several months ago that, like @at, I would be very serious about exercising/walking and losing weight after we retire, I will already be much stronger and conditioned for the long walks I’m planning around our new neighborhood!
Okay, time to make coffee and get this day officially going! Have a grand one, everyone!

While yesterday certainly was a legitimate FD, I must admit that it went so well because I did so much work in my garden preparing for Spring and Summer that I had no time to eat until I was done and then I was just too tired. LOL
Today it is raining, so, unfortunately, that leaves me alone with my kitchen! I will need to be careful. I will be having lunch with my son. He is always so busy, so we we will be enjoying a pizza at my house. I will finally be able to show him all my renovations. I will try to stay with just one slice. I haven’t had pizza in a very long time.
Brightenbelle, glad you enjoyed your trip.
AT, my husband had sciata, so I can commiserate with you.
Merryapple, so sorry about your friend.
Hope everyone is having a great day!
Day 13……UK…..NFD
Hi all, lovely day today, having another good NFD, I have banished all “bad” food from the cupboards so I can’t cave. Sticking with the lower carb to stop me overeating. so far, so good this week. Scale is lower as it was FD yesterday but I know that will go up a bit – nice to see it though….
@at I know BSE well, love the Abbey gardens and the shops, so much variety compared to most town centres. Enjoy, hope you get a cup of tea at Harriets 🙂
@merryapple I’m so sorry to hear about your best friend’s brother, that’s really tragic, I hope you’re ok?
Have a good one all…..
Day 14 NZ NFD 🦮 69.5kg
I had fish served on top of duck fat roast potatoes and broccolini. Go figure that menu…??? No dessert but (plug your ears, David!!) a Dark and Stormy cocktail, a milk stout beer and a glass of claret.
I made Finnish sourdough Rye bread y’day so had a thin slice with honey this morning after porridge, a wee tsp of brown sugar and milk/cream. I’m off shortly to take Paisley the Scottie for a walk.
Thank you for your kind thoughts…
@stitchincarol I remember loosing more than 10kg when I moved into this house because I repainted the complete interior, pulled up the carpets and cleaned down and oiled all the beautiful Matai floorboards, cleared out the nonexistent garden and replanted it… I’m exhausted thinking about it so I feel for you!!!
I looked up mourning haircutting and came up with Native American traditions. It seems to be associated with letting out energy, identifying with loss and being identified as grieving but as you would imagine there are variations in traditions. Some said you couldn’t recut your hair for one year.
With ancient Polynesian practices, this is the period when the body is taboo because it is inherently dangerous as it decomposes. It was secured in burial caves and after one year the cleaned bones were formally buried in a memorial service. These practices have been rejigged for the modern world and the contemporary memorial service has become an “unveiling“ of the headstone.
@at I’m sorry to hear your hip is troubling you again. Is it a muscular or a worn out hip joint?
@anicecupoftea It’s great you’re getting a routine going that is working for you.💪
@bert1802 Good on you for upping your protein intake!! You need those muscles with your busy life!!
Welcome back @brightonbelle!! Lovely to have a holiday!! We’re all still here plugging along!!
@ccco How fun cooking in your refreshed kitchen!! Speaking of Pizza I wonder where @penz is. Her 🍕🍷Friday is coming up!!
@lilymartin I chuckled at your under estimating your cheese size!! I’m sure I’m eating and drinking way more calories than I think I am!! I looked up milk (in tea/coffee on FDs) after you mentioned it and realised every cup has 50-60 cals of milk in it… Then I looked up @ccco’s DASH diet and I could tick almost everything on the good side except DAIRY!! I drink full fat milk because the low fat milk is still full of calories as it has way more lactose (milk sugar) in it…
@iona72 That babysitting will get your ‘steps’ up!! I hope you had a great trip!!
@daffodil2010 I hope your CT results are 10/10!! Your motorcycle leathers are such a great way to gauge your success 🤣
Have a good day everyone!!
Day 13…..Florida……FD
So proud of myself, had a very successful FD, not much luck getting in more protein but it’s a work in progress.
Thank you for the kind words about my flop of the day. Those words keep me moving forward and not throwing in the towel……
The protein thing, I’m still working on. I figured as long as I am actively working on it, I’m making progress.
It’s kind of like when I was forced to give up things with gluten in it. I just actively worked on it until it stuck.
I was suffering from a long term stomach ache, after many tests including a prick testing. I showed no reason for the constant ache. So, the dr. Came up with the idea of testing food out. So, at first we gave up dairy and gluten the two possible main culprit. ( I used to get a lot of my protein from dairy) when I added them back, we found dairy give me the thinnest ache, gluten a medium size ache but together a huge ache.
So thus, I know longer eat any of them.
Why am I telling you this…. For those who suggested dairy as a protein and those who are actively trying to reduce carbs.
It was only the first couple weeks where I missed bread and pasta and such. Now, the only time it bothers me is trying to find something with out dairy and gluten in it.
It gets better promise!
For those who suggest products such as almond milk or flour. I am hospital stay allergic to almonds and almond by products.
I mention hospital stay allergic because I have had people say to me it just has a little almond in it, it won’t hurt you or try eating it in small amounts so you become immune to it. Even a little bit sends me to the hospital.
Okay, I’ve rambled enough for one day…..
Tomorrow, it a NFD and I’m gonna have Chicken wings!
