Yesterday turned into a CD! You are very right FUNSHIPFREDDIE! One day turns into another and then another. I don’t have the kind of will power that lets me turn FDs on an off. They will just stay off! ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

Stitchincarol, I know how difficult it is to be without electricity and heat. I have been there. Being in that situation in the Winter and in your part of the country is even more difficult. We get cold here but our weather is nothing like yours. I hope the power comes back real soon! Also, it is wonderful about the house. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

I am so glad that Spring starts today. Spring and Summer are my seasons!

    Have a great day, everyone!

    Day 20, second post

An update: And just like that, everything has again changed. I had just suggested to DH that we simply spend the night in a hotel in Omaha, since I was driving in to teach lessons anyway, when the president of the congregation called and said,

    1. We need to cancel Sunday’s service already, because there are over 50 power poles down leading into town, and there’s zero possibility power will be restored by Sunday–and possibly not until Monday or Tuesday or even later.

    2. The congregation was sending us to a hotel for safety and comfort.

So we’re in Omaha. It is normally a 30 minute drive from home to this hotel, but there were so many closed roads that we had to drive all the way south to Lincoln to get on the interstate and drive northeast to Omaha, and that took us 1:40. This is a storm that will go down in the record books. And, OH, but that shower felt glorious, LOL!

and @ccco, just for the record, it never got below 20, and today is up to 47, so at least we don’t have to worry about frozen pipes or anything. Our fridge and freezer, however? Only time will tell.

So now to choose restaurants wisely! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Day 21 โ€“ South Africa ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ โ€“ NFD 71.2 kg

We should maybe rename this challenge ‘Mute March’ – so quiet here?! ๐Ÿ‘€ Anyway, I hope I’m sharing my Friday PFDS with the other Thursday fasters.

    @stitchincarol – what a roller-coaster of a week you’re having?! Enjoy the hotel & the restaurants anyway ๐Ÿ›Ž

It’s a public holiday here today – Human Rights Day – & the 65th anniversary of the Sharpeville massacre, when police killed 69 people who were peacefully protesting against the Pass laws. It’s very warm, cloudy & humid though, & it’s eerily quiet around here. Probably because everyone’s broke, as most people only get paid around the 25th of the month.

    Happy Fri-yay! ๐Ÿน

    Day 21

Wow. I’m the second one to post?? “Mute March,” indeed, David.

Ended up doing OMAD yesterday, and had a 600 calorie salmon dinner with 240 calories of red wine and a cauliflower appetizer that’s glorious (it’s our favorite at this restaurant) but probably high calorie. My salmon had 60% of the plate covered with veggies, so it was all good. DH and I did a lot of scooping yesterday morning (two hours’ worth, I think), so however many calories the meal was, I’m certain I burned far more than I ate.

We have today’s eating options planned out, but nothing else on the agenda. Oh well!

What a sad event that was! So glad things are improved in SA.

    USA. Day 21. FD

Yesterday, I strayed again. The DASH diet is easy to keep going but I am having some trouble on the calorie end. I must have lost a little of my mojo and need to get that back quickly before I regain what I have lost! ๐Ÿ˜•

Stitchincarol, you are having quite an ordeal out there. I am glad your congregation sent you to the hotel. They must truly love you both. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป I hope everything will return to normal soon.

FUNSHIPFREDDIE, I believe I remember that Sharpville massacre. I remember the president of your country (I think his last name was Smith but not sure anymore) came to New York City where I am from. He stayed in the building where I lived. He was so disliked that his protection was really heavy duty. I couldn’t even get into my home without proof that I lived there. I think he was visiting the U.N. Much, I think, has changed since then.

I hope everyone has a lovely day, today!

    Day 21 UK NFD

Had a lovely day out nice long walk , pub lunch so may regret tomorrow but hey ho , will regroup tomorrow

    Day 21 NE England NFD

DH birthday celebrations are into day 3, this has not been a good week for me. Family home for the weekend so birthday celebrations will no doubt continue. It’s not even a “special” birthday!!!
The weather is a lot warmer today so hopefully I will be in the mood for salad all next week to end Mute March๐Ÿคฃ

So pleased to hear you got the house @stitchincarol my eldest daughter is in the process of moving house, she has a lot of DIY lined up for us ๐Ÿค”

Hope you enjoyed your public holiday @funshipfreddie

    Have a lovely weekend everyone.

    Day 22 โ€“ South Africa ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ โ€“ NFD

@ccco – the SA president you mentioned would have been Charles Swart. He was the first State President from 1961. Before that he was the governor general though. South Africa was still part of the British Empire in 1960, & only became a Republic in ’61.

@iona72 – every day is a holiday for me! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Enjoy your DH’s extended birthday celebrations ๐Ÿฅณ

My TV has gone kapputt again?! After I paid a small fortune to get it fixed last month. This is the third time I’m taking it to the repair shop. I think they need to give me a refund. Aiming for a sensible CD today, & another FD tomorrow ๐ŸŽฏ

Have a good weekend everyone ๐ŸŒค๐ŸŒˆ

    Day 22-No. VA USA-FD 800
Busy month, not a very productive one for weight loss; trying to maintain. Better days coming, I think, in April. I have two dinners coming up next weekend to celebrate birthdays at restaurants, one place is quite deluxe, but at least the portions are small!!!
    Happy fasting!

Hope everyone has been having a great weekend! ๐Ÿค—

    Day 23 – USA – NFD

Greetings everyone. I started my latest IF journey about a month ago. I wanted to lose 18 pounds by the end of March, but so far, I’ve managed to lose 4! I’m obviously having too many calories on my NFDs and enjoying food too much. I must find more self-discipline on my NFDs. I look forward to wrapping up March soon, a week from tomorrow. My goals are easily obtainable with the right mindset and self-discipline, even if it takes longer to reach them now.

Many people in my neighborhood are on weight-loss injections! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I’ve witnessed numerous obese neighbors, who were obese for years, suddenly becoming skeletons! I refuse to lose weight that way! I could, but I won’t. Losing weight with IF is very, very easy and healthy if one can develop the right mindset for NFDs.

Best to everyone for a safe and healthy journey!

    Kind regards,
    Joseph

    Day 24 โ€“ South Africa ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ โ€“ NFD 71.2 kg

Easiest FD ever! I was way too sedentary though. Why do most hobbies/pastimes involve sitting down? I need to ramp up my steps this week ๐Ÿƒ

@icystorm – don’t give up on Mindful March just yet! We still have a whole 8 days left. So you could get very close to reaching half of your original goal for the month ๐ŸŽฏ

The power came back on for our village at 8pm Saturday: that was 84 hours with no electricity. Many people out in the country on the farms are still without power, however, so there’s still a long way to go for them. In the meantime, we’re busy being thankful for everything electricity provides: heat, lights, cold to keep freezers frozen (thankfully, our big freezer stayed frozen, so we didn’t lose anything there, but we lost much in our fridge/attached freezer… that’s one way to clean out a fridge, eh?), ovens, music/radio, tv/news, hot water, etc., etc., etc.

Today is stuff involving the process of buying our house. Looking forward to a WF tomorrow!

Hi all – just a quick check in as I am back to work after a fabulous week off on our beautiful west and south west coast. We had the most amazing weather.. lots of tourists wondering how they were so lucky โ˜€๏ธโ˜€๏ธโ˜€๏ธ but really this can happen in spring or autumn and often there s a better chance of fab sunny weather than in the summer months.

Iโ€™m tired but only because we hiked and cycled and swam lotsโ€ฆ yes the water was icy cold – that is a sure thing over there!

Ohโ€ฆ and I am now carrying extra lbsโ€ฆ but not for long my friendsโ€ฆ Iโ€™m firmly back in the zone โฌ‡๏ธ

Nothing makes a few consecutive FDs easier than gastro and the flu !! As mentioned by some of you a few weeks ago.
Back on track now that that has passed.
@stitchincarol , congratulations on buying a house. Does that mean a big cleanup when you shift ? I think I am going to pretend I am moving house just to get rid of some of my stuff. Way Way too many possessions…
@icystorm 4 lbs lost is better than 0 lbs lost or, worse, a gain.
I heard a professor of medicine this week say that there had been some studies done on drugs like Ozempic and whilst people did lose weight while they took the drug, the 12 month follow up showed that once they stopped taking the drug, in most cases a rebound weight GAIN effect happened and it was ALL fat. What they lost was fat and lean muscle which is not good especially as you age. But the gain is just fat๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
Good on you for sticking with sensible IF and 5:2.

    Day 25 โ€“ South Africa ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ โ€“ NFD

    Quick check-in for accountability.

@lilymartin – great to see you back! Interesting about the weight loss drugs – “in most cases a rebound weight GAIN effect happened…” -but it doesn’t just ‘happen’. If people just pop pills without changing their eating habits/lifestyles, then of course they’ll regain the weight when they stop taking the pills. And we’ve yet to find out what the long-term consequences are of taking these relatively new drugs.

    Have a great day everyone

    Day 25-No. VA USA-FD
Today is a reset day. Mindful March has been more like “un-motivated March” for me, and I am determined to get back on track. Weather is nice now that rain has passed. I have been driving my car with a lapsed inspection sticker (good for one year, and last done in December 2024!) so have to stop at the gas station on the way into work and see if they can do it for me. It is close to the office, so I could walk from there, if they can help me out. We shall see.
@lilymartin, I had some bad gastrointestinal stuff a few months ago, and I agree that weight goes down. But it doesn’t stay unless we are really vigilant! @jaifaim, I am joining you in trying to get my mind back in gear, so my body will follow!
@icystorm, a 4# weight loss in a month would total almost 50# in a year! That is an excellent start!
@stitchincarol, glad your electricity is back. How much we use it, we don’t even realize. Our well is on an electrical pump, so if power goes out, we must have generator back up for our water supply!
    Have a good day, all!

    Day 25 UK f800

Yes I canโ€™t believe wegovy ozempic etc can be good for you
Itโ€™s not going to change your eating habits and I think we all know you have to do it the hard way

Measured rooms and kitchen cupboards in the new house yesterday so I can start figuring out what will go where, ran all sorts of errands, and generally had a productive day. Suddenly and deeply aware of all that needs sorting through and cleared out in our current house as we get ready to move.

Working to maintain a placid attitude, but not surprised to have stress headaches daily. Deep breaths…

    Have a grand one, everyone!

    Day 25 – USA – FD

Greetings, everyone! I hope you’re all having a great day or night and a healthy journey in your corner of the world.

@funshipfreddie โ€“ Congratulations on your easiest FD ever! And thank you for the encouragement! Your other comments about sitting too often ring true, and I like your quote from Robert Collier. I’ve always marveled at how small degrees of change in virtually anything can lead to large differences over time.

@brightonbelle โ€“ Thank you! Once I find a key motivating spark inside, I’ll shed the pounds more easily! This forum, of course, is highly motivating, and I also expose myself to abundant sources of motivation in books and videos that convey success stories, yet the start of this journey has felt more lackluster to me for some reason. I hope your final week of March is great!

Regarding the weight loss drugs, you wrote: “Itโ€™s not going to change your eating habits and I think we all know you have to do it the hard way.”

Well said, and I couldn’t agree more!

@stitchincarol โ€“ That’s great news about buying your house! Weather-wise, I hope you’re able to enjoy some nice spring days soon after your recent winter weather and power outage ordeal. I also hope your daily stress headaches end soon!

@jaifaim โ€“ Thank you!!! I’m definitely sticking around with no plans to leave. Your trip and activities sound amazing!

@lilymartin โ€“ I hope you’re feeling better and recovering well from your recent illness. I completely agree with you about the potential for adverse consequences associated with weight-loss drugs. Those are definitely not for me. Out of the dozens of diets and weight-loss methods I’ve tried over the years, IF is the best.

@excelsior12309 โ€“ I hope you were able to get your inspection sticker. Fortunately, here in Louisiana, they offer a two-year option, which I always take. And thank you for the positive thoughts! I know what you mean by an “unmotivated March.” I’m used to jumping right into IF and shedding pounds quickly and with easeโ€”but not this time! I feel like my body and mind have been mired in apathy and an unwillingness to lose weight, much like Jon Gabriel described in his book “The Gabriel Method.” I’m trying to rekindle the olโ€™ internal motivation, but it’s slow to form. It’ll happen, and I’ll again conquer those NFDs! ๐Ÿ˜€

To everyone in the forum, I hope you’re having a very successful journey and loving life!

    Kind regards,
    Joseph

    USA. Day 25. FD

Just dropping in for accountability! I am deep into my renovations at the moment and don’t have much time!

    Hope everyone is doing well!

    Day 25 NE England ZBC

After feeling out of sorts after last weeks derailment I had a chat with myself and regained some inspiration today. Mindset is such a big part of the process.
As I get older I repel the idea of any drug, I hope to stay drug free for many more years and would never consider weight loss injections ~ but each to their own I guess.

    Day 26, NFD, Aus

Iโ€™ve been offline for more than a week it seems. Was away for a conference, at which I picked up some lurgy thatโ€™s had me plagued with swollen tonsils and lethargy since. The good news is that Iโ€™ve lost 2 kilos!! The trick now, of course, will be to keep it off.

Iโ€™m reading all the exciting news; a lot seems to be happening at the moment!

I once transited Atlanta airport. I do not have fond memories of that place! My connecting flight was delayed and they kept changing the departure gate, from one end of the airport to the next. I must have walked the length and breadth of that terminal at least 3 times!

@icystorm โ€“ Iโ€™m guessing you must have testified in court many times. Do you find it stressful? Or are you well used to the tactics used by opposing counsel? Iโ€™ve always wanted the experience of being on jury duty but never get called upโ€ฆ

I was about to suggest @stitchincarol, that you keep visiting houses that arenโ€™t up to scratch and maybe your OH would agree to renovate your current place. Then I read you successfully found a new one!! Exciting news! It sounds lovely especially the big porch. Congratulations!! Oh, and I feel your pain re not being able to make coffee (day 19). I forgot what an addict I am, and after 3 days of a crippling headache, which I put down to being ill, I had coffee. Instant bliss!

Day 26 country west Australia FD 82.0 kgs 180.4 lbs.
March seems to have been bit of. ‘mehhh’ month for some of us!
Fortunately I finally feel motivated to keep going consistently with 5:2 as a WOL, again, which I did quite successfully when I started way back in October 2017! ๐Ÿ™„
Seeing the scales inch, or should that be ‘gram’, slowly downwards is quite motivating at present.
I have a LOONNNGGGGG way to go, but every journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step. So baby steps it is.
@funshipfreddie, I so agree re habits, taking drugs for weightless etc. As Tom Venuto says ‘ you can’t outrun a bad diet’!!
Isn’t that what they say about insanity – doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome?
@iona72, mindset is SO important, so glad your set-talk has got you some inspiration.๐Ÿ˜Š
@ccco, good luck with the Renos!! We are at the tail end of 6 months of Renos. The flat looks great now , but my word , the effort ….!!! ๐Ÿฅต
@stitchincarol, good luck with the cleaning up in preparation for you9r shift. I hope yo9u find some treasures….๐Ÿ˜ฌ
    Have a good day everyone.

    Day 26 โ€“ South Africa ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ โ€“ NFD

@penz welcome back, & good to hear you’re feeling better AND that your weight is down! I’ve visited Atlanta a few times, & was always fascinated by how busy it was. Just sitting by a window & seeing the planes constantly landing/taking off ๐Ÿ›ซ

@iona72 – I don’t know if I’d never take weight-loss drugs. I can imagine how tempting it must be for someone who’s very overweight to have the option. Especially if they’ve struggled for years & have tried all other options. I’ve only even been around 9 or 10 kgs over my current weight though, so hopefully I’ll never have to make that decision ๐Ÿ˜…

@icystorm hopefully the apathy will passโ€ฆ itโ€™s tough to stay focused but youโ€™re really doing very very well and inspiring us as you goโ€ฆ

I hope so @brightonbelle ๐Ÿ‘ It does feel harder to shift the extra lbs these days although that may just be my focus waning and Iโ€™m making excusesโ€ฆ I need a drastic plan for April as I will be on holidays early May ๐Ÿ‘™โ˜€๏ธ and generally I just feel sluggish ๐Ÿ™ƒ.

@iona72 – good to hear you are back on track too! Itโ€™s hard sometimesโ€ฆ but then if it wasnโ€™t none of us would be here I suppose. I agree re keeping medication to a minimum of possible and am currently trying to keep my cholesterol from rising.

@lilymartin mindset is everything I thinkโ€ฆ I realise now that a lot of my tiredness, etc is down to what my mind is doing rather than my body. Iโ€™m taking a lot of steps to address this now as I feel that a little like weight gain it can reach a point where it is difficult to tackle so best to get stuck in to new habits and self care now. Great to hear that your renovation work is complete!

@ccco – hope you are taking care while working so hard on the house.

@penz was the conference for pleasure? As you are not working now are you? Hope you are feeling much better now! And that you can put those kilos behind you and never see them again ๐Ÿ˜„

Day 26 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD

Yesterday’s WF turned into a FD500 because I was RAVENOUS. I kept insisting to myself that “hunger is not an emergency” and all the other quotes I could think of, but I decided better to eat a reasonable FD500 than suddenly lose the plot and eat far worse choices, and the weight was still down two pounds this morning. @penz, I give you a thumbs up for the weight you lost while sick (the great silver lining, right? Nonetheless, I’m glad you’re recovered now!) and your thoughts on the challenge of maintaining the loss. I’ve gained back one pound from what I lost when I had Influenza A, but it’s been hard. A thought I had yesterday was that I simply have to accept that losing weight means I’m going to be hungry. And that’s okay–hunger is not, after all, an emergency, right? And hunger feels far better than eating far too much feels!

Here’s a quote I just read from the “Eat Like a Bear” gal: These days I donโ€™t touch snack items because it simply takes more discipline to stop eating than it ever does to avoid eating it all in the first place. My life has gotten far easier and I have gotten thinner by recognizing this key point.

I’ve also learned that lesson; now the trick is to always APPLY that lesson, LOl!

Lots to do, so I’m off, but to those of you who’ve commented about possibly remodeling the house we’re in, I’ve probably not said very often that we HAVE to move, because we live in a parsonage–a house owned by the congregation for its pastors. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ So I’ve gardened as if it were my own, but it isn’t, and all I can think about these days is how impatient I am to move, LOL! I am so looking forward to owning our home again instead of being “temporary residents.”

    Have a grand one, everyone!

    USA. Day 26 FD

Lilymartin, 6 Months of renovations! Wow! I love the outcome I am seeing but it is nerve wracking. Today, they are ripping up all my wood floors! Scary watching them. I guess you definitely can understand!

Stitichincarol, your new house sounds exciting!

Thank you, Jaifaim! I am trying to not be overwhelmed by everything. Fortunately, I believe this will be the last time I will ever do anything like this.

Penz, I am glad you are beginning to feel better. I know I love the weight I lose, if I get sick, even if that is not the best method to go about this.

Today is my son’s birthday but we will have to put off celebrating until the weekend. I can’t leave the house. I need to be here. They have so many questions and I don’t want anyone second guessing me. I bought a lovely table with two chairs for my son’s front porch. It’s a suprise but I know he will love it! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Good controlled day yesterdayโ€ฆ thought Iโ€™d drop a little bit not today โ€ฆ. Here we go for a good FD.

    Day 27 – USA/GA – ZBC

Weigh-in: 243 lbs. No, I haven’t got those numbers transposed, so I’m a little embarrassed to be nearly 10 lbs heavier than I was at the end of February! It’s also six pounds more from before I left on vacation, and three pounds over yesterday! I am hoping some of this is just “travel bloat.” I find if I’m on a bus and plane or whatever for over five hours, my body becomes dehydrated, no matter how much water I drink, and holds on to any drop for dear life for the next couple of days until it realizes it’s OK to relax! At least, that’s my theory. I also ate more than necessary on the return flight due to very little sleep just to keep me awake at the airports and stations.

But anyway, it was a great trip. Maybe today will be a FD. I’ll start back in earnest on Monday.

Day 27 – Rural Nebraska, USA – WFD

I’m hopeful today will be an actual WF, rather than turning into a FD500, as I ate very decently yesterday, so hopefully won’t be hit with such huge hunger pangs. It’s another super busy day today, so I’m off.

Have a grand one, everyone! Oh, and @northgeorgia, welcome back!

    Day 27 NE England CD

I feel like I’ve had a few good days and the scale is back to its normal plateau number. I’m making notes on where I think I’ve done ok and where improvements can be made. This is in the hope that it keeps me on track and accountable.

My daughter moves house on Monday, a 5 week turnaround, unheard of in the UK. Luckily missing a big increase in stamp duty on April 1st. Her Solicitor said she has been happy to push it through for her as she is so polite. Just what a parent likes to hear!! Anyway we will be busy at the weekend helping with packing, cleaning, babysitting and dog walking for her.

@northgeorgia Glad you had a good trip, travelling upsets my equilibrium too so I would wait a few days for a more accurate idea.

    Day 28, P&RWD!! Aus

    Hello all

Lots of house moving and renovations by a few of you! Stressful times but hope it all goes well. Oh of course, @stitchincarol, I forgot you didn’t own the house you’re in now!

@northgeorgia – welcome back, but I’m sure I speak for the forum when I say, please give us details of your trip away!!!

Cycling trip around southern Spain? Sounds delightful, @jaifaim.

The conference was the national gathering of a new not-for-profit organisation I’ve joined. Those in the UK and NZ (@merryapple, looking at you!) may know of it. The Australian organisation is based on the UK’s The Arts Society (business name the Decorative and Fine Arts Association) and has recently re-branded to ArtsNational. It provides “superbly illustrated, informative and entertaining lecture presentations on diverse topics relating to the arts across Australia.” and also promotes education and conservation of the arts. We also raise money to donate to young arts. NZ has a similar organisation and we often share lecturers across the ditch. Sorry – that was a long blurb! As a newbie to the organisation I found it very interesting.

Have a good weekend everyone! I’ve raked the leaves this morning (autumn has hit already) and expect some nice soaking rain this afternoon.

Day 28 country west Australia FD 82.0 kgs
    Day 27 CD 81.6 kgs.
Having a very good FD so far as DH is also doing it.
@stitchincrol, it will be so good to have your own home again.
    @penz the conference sounds fascinating.
@iona72 good luck with your daughter’s move. Lots of people moving house and having a clean out at the same time ??
@NorthGeporgia, I hope the bloat reduces soon. It can be a real problem when travelling.
@brightonbelle, I hope you have a very controlled weekend.

@northgeorgia – I can’t believe how quickly your trip passed?! I was thinking you’d just gone this week until I checked the date of your previous post. How was Uruguay? Hopefully the ‘excess baggage’ will disappear as quickly as it arrived.

@lilymartin – I hope your FD was a success; thanks for offering to host April ๐Ÿ™

    @brightonbelle ๐ŸŽฏ keep the faith!

@stitchincarol hopefully keeping busy kept you focussed and away from food.

@northgeorgia that extra weight should shift pretty quicklyโ€ฆ I say that all the while hoping itโ€™s the same for meโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜

    @funshipfreddie enjoy your brunch ๐Ÿ˜‹

@iona72 glad to hear you are back on track. Yeah, we would rarely hear of a five week turnaround here either – well done to your daughter. Good to keep busy and away from temptation ๐Ÿค—

Read my post backโ€ฆ misspelled focused but turns out it can be spelled either wayโ€ฆ double โ€œsโ€ is a rare variant spelling.. apparently commonly used in Australia. Who knew!! The things I learn here ๐Ÿค—

No excuse or variant for Hahnks though ๐Ÿ˜‚ how autocorrect thinks that is acceptable/ok is beyond me โ€ฆ
