  • Hello all,

I’ve been struggling with my weight for most of my adult life.. I have been succesful in loosing weight, at my lightest I was still at 15stone (no stomach at all).

I’ve tried Weight Watchers (lost 2.5 stone back in 1999)… also went on a 3 month Low Carb diet (lost 2.5 stone back in 2012)… Since then, i’ve made an 80% effort to cut out bread/refined grains.. but chocolates are my downfall!

I’m quite active (low intensity) and walk about 8K – 15K steps per day… I’ve been using a fitbit since Jan 2014 to measure my steps…

But have piled it all back on and then some.. I need to loose 100lbs!!

I started my first fast day yesterday, and it was okay…. I don’t eat breakfast so did not feel hungry until about 2pm… I’ve started daily mediation and also weekly yoga, all in the hope of loosing the weight and getting back the body I want.

I read quite a few of the more active posts on the site and i’m looking forward to the life style change. I’m hoping my wife will also join me.

I’ve started doing a 10 minute HIT exercise regime on my home stepper too, but only on fast days!

    Two questions I have :-

    1. Do you recommend running the fast days back to back ?
    2. On my NFD I am going to try the 16:8 approach (as I skip breakfast anyhow)
    3. Should I do HIT exercise only on FD days ?

Thanks all and it does seem there’s a great community here.

    Hi Typhoon welcome to 5.2.

If you read many of the posts on here you will see that once you get into a routine you will find you will lose weight consistently. You may find that as you want to lost quite a bit of weight that the first 14-20lbs will come off quickly and then it will slow down to a couple of pounds per week. I think it is best to set yourself small goals as that way you can stay focused.

There is now right way or wrong way to do 5:2. I, like you, don’t bother with breakfast and I save all my calories for my evening meal. I drink plenty of water everyday anyway so I find on my FD it really does help with the odd hunger pang. I find it is easier not to do back to back but everyone is different. You could do 4:3 if you wanted; I am doing Monday/Wednesday/Friday this week but that is an exception.

If you look at the Little Voices September Challenge you will find plenty of encouragement from Action Hero who is in charge this month and keeps us all on the straight and narrow!! 🙂

Good luck to you and your wife

I have just started this diet (last Friday was my first fast day) and I’ve found already that it is getting easier. I’ve had two fast days (Mon. and today) this week and plan to fast on Friday – just because I can 🙂

I did no exercise on my first two fasts – I wanted to be sure that I could get through the days, but I did my HIIT this morning (exercise bike) and I feel fine. On non-fast days I use the bike and I walk briskly most evenings down to the old pier and back (just over 2 miles). As JFitzy says, I think we all need to find a way of doing this that suits our individual circumstances, a way that works.

Welcome and like others have said there is no certain way to do 5:2 just as long as you follow the simple guidelines. I don’t do B2B fasts but others have. And I eat all my 600 calories in the evening in one meal. Good luck on your journey!

    Thanks Elfstone and Ceedub….

I’m so excited about this IF stuff.. It would be a dream come true to really control my weight, on a long term basis with minimal effort.

    Btw… I came across this guy’s research and it’s eye opening.. https://intensivedietarymanagement.com/fasting-a-history-part-i/

That’s an interesting blog Typhoon. Thanks for linking to it. 🙂
