  • Right now I am sitting at 218 pounds, and that just isn’t sitting well with me. Part of the reason for that is the fact that I got myself down to 195lbs from 258lbs and was glad to be under 200lbs for the first time in well over 10 years. But the calorie restrictions every day were tough, and to be honest, I just let some things go. So I am giving this a shot. I like the idea of only restricting calories 2 days of the week and since I have been going to the gym 4 days a week for the past couple weeks, and intend to continue doing so, it should fit right in.

I am happy to say I just finished my first fast day. I went over the recommended calories but thought since my tdee is 2604 and 25% of that is 651, I would plan to eat 750 calories over the day – just to give myself a bit of a buffer. It was difficult off and on but I did it while I was working, so being busy at a desk out of the way of food helped. I had scrambled eggs and veggies for breakfast, a salad for lunch, and chicken and green beans for dinner, with a yogurt thrown in for good measure. But I didnt end up eating the yogurt so I ended up with 674 calories. I weighed and entered everything on myfitnesspal so, so far so good.

Tomorrow is not a fast day, so just got to make sure I get to the gym. Looking forward to seeing how this works out tomorrow and for the rest of the week 🙂

I,m starting my 1st fast tomorrow and feel so excited. I bought the book 2 days ago and couldn,t put it down so interesting. Fingers crossed because i have struggled with weight loss in the past few years and tried many times to stick to a calorie control diet when results don,t happen…so here goes and hope the results are good.

I have just registered and entered all the measurements on the tracker and now am set for my first fast tomorrow (Friday). My BMI is 25.4 but being on the short side my body shape is more cube than hourglass. Looking to lose – and keep off – about 14lbs, slowly but surely.

First read about 5:2 in 2013 and pleased to see so much actual information and proven results from people who have been following this WOL.

Good Luck everyone starting 2015 with the intention of making it a healthy year. After all it’s not just about losing weight but all the other health benefits following 5:2 will bring.

    Hi team,

I am not getting it how do i really start this program. what do i really need to do.

    Hello,

Basically the idea is that you do two fast days per week and eat sensibly the remaining five days. On a fast day, women aim for 500 calories and men 600 calories. These figures are based on the assumption that on average you consume 2000 calories if you are female. Set up a tracker and log your weight and height to get your BMI and recommended daily calorie allowance (TDEE). This is explained much better on the Home Page of this website, just giving you a summary. Aim to fast regularly twice a week, not on consecutive days. I successfully lost weight and have maintained ever since, and I was very strict and recorded everything that I ate and drank on a food tracker (eg Calorie Count or My Fitness Pal) and kept within my TDEE on non fast days and lost 14 lbs over approx 10 weeks. As you lose weight your TDEE will drop, so remember to adjust it as you go along. Some people literally consume nothing on a fast day, apart from water, others aim to have one 500 calorie meal in the evening, but I preferred to split my calorie allowance of 350 – 400 cals on a fast day into two meals. A Fast Day is from the last time you eat during the evening and then all through the next day and night so lasts approx 36 hours. Eg from 7 pm on Tuesday until 7 am on Thursday. Hope this helps and Good Luck! You can find more information by reading other members’ posts or asking questions. For maintenance I usually fast one day per week and am careful what I eat the remainder of the time
