  • I have read about this diet in various places but just decided to try it this week. Today is my first “fast” day and it has gone relatively well, though I’m really looking forward to dinner time! I also have a bit of a headache but I probably haven’t had enough water.

Although I have been unhappy with my weight most of my life I really hate diets. With one short-lived exception I have never stuck to one for more than a day or two. I hate counting calories, weighing portions, and all that stuff. But despite being properly obese (my BMI is 40) I am not much of a junk food junkie and I have a relatively active lifestyle. With the exception of PCOS I don’t have any health problems, but I know I am at risk of diabetes so I want to stave that off a bit. I’m hoping that by only having to really think about what I am eating a few days a week I will be able to get over my aversion to diets and drop a bit of weight.

Quite frankly, though, I have been fat all my life and I always will be fat. My aim is to become less fat, rather than to get skinny.

Well done on your first fast day. If you are not a junk food junkie then your sense of an appropriate portion of food must be the problem? Im excluding weird and wonderful medical conditions. I don’t count calories but then my sense of portion control is quite good and I reached my goal weight back in March. Perhaps to start of with measure out what your TDEE amount of food would look like. Use the menu bar at the top of the page to work out your TDEE. That way you can compare what you should be eating with what you are currently eating. Try and eat 1/4 TDEE on fast days and up to your TDEE on non fast day.

5:2 works if you give it a genuine try. Avoid sugar like the plague, avoid simple grain based carbs like bread, pasta, pizza, rice. Avoid potatoes. Good luck with it.
