    Second post

@northgeorgia sounds like you have given yourself a talking to, next week will be on track💪

As well as the NSL I am trying to focus on portion size for the up coming week -less is more!
Had a bit of time to relax and reset over the weekend and currently enjoying US Open golf on TV. Not too much babysitting in the week ahead so will make for a good step count.

Day 16 country west Australia FD
It’s National Vegemite day today – who knew !! They seem to have a ‘day’ for everything !! I am having more hot drinks with Vegemite to drown the hunger dragons on FDs.
@iona72, my DH is currently watching the US Open golf . Scott ( Aussie) was going equal first but I think he has just got in a bunker and bogeyed the hole 😔
@bert1802, walking or exercising in the morning can be a very good strategy. One and done!
I find if I leave it til later in the day then I run out of ‘day’! By 4pm I have all the excuses in the world to not exercise/walk and ‘plan’ to do it tomorrow…..🤔
@merryapple, you certainly have some wonderful trips. ‘Pinky Pie ?? A dog psychologist might be needed for poor PP!!
Speaking of morning walks, the sun has just come up, 7.10 am, and I am of to get my walk in , walking behind a mob of sheep to bring them up to the yards ,a good way to exercise, for drenching ( taking their medicine ) – a good way for my DH to exercises!!
Wrangling 1500 young sheep who would rather be frolicking in the paddock than having medicine squirted in their mouths. It doesn’t hurt them at all, it is just that they can be reluctant – think trying to give an active 3 year old some medicine !!😲 1500 times !!

    @northgeorgia – 😯 🤐

@merryapple – From the spreadsheet, it looks like you had a good weekend too 😅

@lilymartin – 1500 sheep?! That doesn’t sound like fun. But, a good workout, I’m sure! How long does that take? And how often do you have to do it?

A 14 day water fast? Don’t try this at home 😳

    158 lbs – 😦

The rain didn’t affect our hike too badly yesterday – a lovely day with friends.

Hoping to get back to two good FDs this week… starting with today. The numbers are bouncing up.

Wow @lilymartin that is some task…. Would you have all the drenching done on one day???

Good to hear you are still dancing @funshipfreddie!!! I spent the latter part of yesterday dancing around the hose doing chores… nothing quite like it💕🕺 💃🏻 but really can’t understand my numbers above… but… they are what they are… Noy for long though 💪🏻💪🏻

@funshipfreddie thanks for adding me to the pocket list and looking back on my post I realise I didn’t proof the autocorrect 😝😝😝
I was dancing around the HOUSE not a hose 💦 🚿 . I’m finding that hilarious to think about… maybe a new activity 😝💃🏻🕺😝
    Have a good one!

    3rd Post – Day 16

@jaifaim – I guessed you meant ‘house’. But, yes, a potential new keep-fit activity! 😅 Whatever gets the steps in 🏃‍♂️

    Day 16 – USA/GA – NFD – 238 lbs.

Ugh, horrible experience with the prep stuff, but I think enough of it went through for the procedure. I think the next time I have to do this, I’ll need an alternative, like the pills.

Day 16 – Lincoln, Nebraska, USA – NFD, one more time – 155.8

I’m back! We’re off in twenty minutes to go buy a used lateral file ($200 instead of $900 for new) to bring home, then we’ll go get all my organ music on Wednesday, and then we’ll be well and truly moved. At that point, we’ll finish our bedroom (clothes, bathroom supplies that I’m struggling to “fit” into this house’s storage, shoes…) and the guest bedroom (since we walk by it everytime we go in and out of our bedroom, and need that view to make us happy) and then we’ll tackle the garage…and eventually, we’ll again be able to park our cars in there, LOL!

That 153 of two weeks ago wasn’t seen again, but I’ve been staying at 155-something, so haven’t been troubled by Cruella; there are only so many things I can focus on in any given day, you know? My eating hasn’t been awful at all, but the wine as well as beer as well as cocktails have been abundant most days…and, there too, I’ve just shrugged, figuring moving is stressful enough and the satisfaction of a chilled white wine at the end of the day is reasonable. 🤷🏻‍♀️

As of tomorrow, however, I’ll be back to responsible behavior with a WF as I return to teaching.

And tomorrow I’ll also start replying to all of your various comments. I’ve missed the chatter, although I’ve read enough in snatched moments to know nothing dramatic has happened.

Tonight is our Father’s Day meal as both sons worked yesterday; we’re having steak, potato salad (that I’m making, not purchased) and an asparagus/fresh pea side dish. I could manage to stick to 800 calories with that, except that DH also requested Scotcheroos (Rice Crispie treats with peanut butter added, and melted chocolate and peanut butter chips on top)…Those will be the calories that undo me, but I’m shrugging and starting in on reasonable tomorrow.

    Have a grand one, everyone!

Day 17 NZ Auckland NFD 69.6kg🔻

Pinky Pie is now Piper. I’m amused by your reactions to PP!! The breeders colour code their puppies so they can tell them apart knowing that they are going to be renamed by the new owners!! She is the sweetest wee character- full of beans like any good Westie!!
Yes @funshipfreddie!! I had a great time!! The owner of the boutique ‘otel invited us to a fabulous evening of 1920s Burlesque. I did manage a fast walk along the Tasman Sea coastal boulevard, attended a lecture at the provincial art gallery, wined and dined and generally had fun!!
@bert1803 I’m pleased you have found a way to enjoy walking!! It will get easier as you get into it. Also not paying out gym fees makes you feel very virtuous!!
I started out walking around flat streets, then added a hilly street when I wasn’t puffing enough and now do a fast walk up the closest volcanic cone, Mangawhau aka Mount Eden. We have lots of cones across the city so I go up a different one every so often. After feeling fitter, I bought a new Nike walking outfit to keep up my enthusiasm!! However, I do need to get back to doing squats and core strength ex’s as well as arm strength exs. I stopped when I broke my finger and haven’t pushed the restart button yet… Hope this commentary helps!! @at does loads of walking. She might have some tips!!
@jaifaim Personally I like to think of you dancing around with the hose!!!
@lilymartin Loving the sheep drenching exercise routine!!

    Just do it✅

Day 17 – Lincoln, Nebraska, USA – WFD

Lovely dinner last night, and ate quite reasonably–took smallish portions, and then didn’t finish the food on my plate. I didn’t, of course, neglect to have some Scotcheroos as they are irresistable, LOL. Sadly, I have nowhere to send them, the way I used to send them to church with DH. Perhaps I’ll take them along to piano students! 😂 I’m a bit apprehensive about water fasting today both because it’s the first in a month, and also because summer activities are rearing their heads and instead of twelve lessons today, I have only four, so the built-in distraction of lessons is horribly minimal. The only answer is RESOLVE and Just Do It!, right? After all, it’s only food, and this WF is non-negotiable.

There. All of our various phrases packed into one; I’ll repeat that as my mantra today. 💪👍

@merryapple I’ve been watching “Under the Vines” & “Brokenwood” & “My Life is Murder” over the past months, so had a real sense of what your driving route looked like–beautiful. And the town of Whangamomana, declaring themselves a republic and with a goat as mayor? Sounds like another delightful series, LOL! One thing I’ll say about the shows, however: I must have on CC because I only understand about 25% of the conversation if I can’t simultaneously read it! Probably I’d be fine if it were all in person, but in the context of a TV show, not so much. 🫨😂

And that’s all who have posted?? Comical that I promised today I’d start chatting with everyone who’s posting…and there’s only one post!

Well, I’ll still end with my usual words: Have a grand one, everyone!

Very late checking in today. I couldn’t even make the bed this morning before I left, because Boo Boo was still fast asleep under the duvet 🙄
Anyway, I think I’m on track for a good week. I clocked up +11,300 steps yesterday. I finished eating well before 8 pm last night, & only had lunch after 1 pm today. Then when I was going around the supermarket on my way home, I had a 20 minute debate with myself as I tried to justify getting a small packet of wine gums to munch in the car. But, I resisted, & had a tiny sugar-free mint instead. Hence I still feel worthy of putting myself on the NSL 😇

    @merryapple – Piper, much better! 😅

@stitchincarol – you usually give 12 lessons on a Tuesday?! Is that 12 x 30 mins/1 hour? Seems like a lot. I’d have thought you’d be looking forward to some downtime now anyway after the last few weeks you’ve had. Have you thought about organising/storing your music digitally? The recipe, which typically includes Rice Krispies, peanut butter, chocolate, and butterscotch, was popularised when it was printed on boxes of Rice Krispies cereal in the 1960s.”

    Day 18 – USA/GA – FD – 239 lbs.

Chills, neck and shoulder pain, congestion, rib pain, headache, dizziness… all of this after surgery and even up to 48 hours afterwards. I still have a small pain in my neck, but unlike yesterday, I’m not dizzy and will be heading back to work this morning. I’ve heard a lot of this can be a reaction to anesthesia. The center called and didn’t seem majorly concerned.

All of this to say that I hope I improve today (I feel a lot better this morning) and depending on what happens health-wise, I may have to abandon my FD. I think I’ll be fine. Just need to hydrate all day.

    Day 18…..Florida……NFD

I’m still here….. it’s been and interesting week or so.
The first part of June, it was all about solving issues and well that takes a toll and I don’t want to much after the day is over.

However, I did manage to stay on track and consistent. I changed my 45 min walk to the mornings. It seems better all though, it’s not my favorite thing to do. I’ve walked everyday for 18 days and Monday when I was dead set on not walking, I did it anyways. Hubby says to me, after I was finished. “You may hate it but I’m thinking you may be getting addicted to it….”
Ugg….. what the hell…. Just my luck, you’d think I’d get addicted to something I actually like….. well there you have it… now you’ll have just figured out how ass backward I truly am……..

I’ve said on plan but I have bounced some weeks my FD are M,W,F and others just Tu,Th….. I’m leaving that alone I figured as long as I get two days in what does it really matter….

    Well I’m off

    Day 18 – Nebraska, USA – NFD – 152.2

I was actually 152.8 when I first got up, but after an hour of playing in the dirt, I’d dropped further–undoubtedly all the sweat that even came off my eyelids, LOL! And I was astonished that yesterday’s water fast was as easy as any ever has been, partly, I’m sure, because I was careful to make a list of all the errands I’ve been wanting/needing to run, and then running them. So I have a big case of PFDS! 😇

@funshipfreddie Yup, I’d say one small mint still qualifies you for the NSL. And, only in the summer do I schedule all 12 students on one day, in 30-minute lessons, and that’s only because it allows me to teach only on one day, and–and here’s the biggie–I’m very relaxed in the summer about requiring attendance, and many lessons get cancelled (case in point this past Tuesday going from 12 to 4). My guess is that I’ll have to do all twelve in one day perhaps twice before we resume the school schedule, and that will be exhausting, but also well worth only having to drive in once a week. And are you talking about my organ music going digital? Nope, not interested. I know some do, but I don’t even begin to be that techie. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Are you that techie??

@merryapple Yup, David was right on the origins, and when I got home from the grocery store with the needed bag of peanut butter chips and discovered Y.E.T. A.G.A.I.N. that the recipe calls for BUTTERSCOTCH chips, I was most irritated, LOL. So, 1 cup each peanut butter, corn syrup, and sugar (although I put in 3/4 of a cup of the sugar and could probably put in even less, and notice there are no marshmallows either, even though I’d bought a package for the purpose! 😂), melted, 7 cups Rice Crispies, all stirred together, spread in a 9×13, and 1 cup each chocolate and butterscotch chips melted and spread over the top. It works best to refrigerate it, especially on the hot days we’ve been having, until the chocolate is set.
Is it gourmet? Clearly not. Is it healthy? Nope, not that either. Is it yummy, addictive, and popular with absolutely everyone? Yes, it is. I make it perhaps once a year, or perhaps twice, simply because there’s no nutritional value, only comfort value, but we sure enjoy it when I do, and it has the advantage of being “normal” and still gluten free for our eldest. Oh, and I laughed at your comment of these having nothing to do with Scotch or kangaroos! 👍

@funshipfreddie I’m guessing you didn’t have time to make your bed only partly because Boo Boo was still asleep but also because you slept late…yes? If so, nice job to get so much sleep!

@jaifaim It’s so good to have you back, and I’m so sad for how much turmoil this year still has for you, even as you’re missing your mum so dreadfully. ❤️

@northgeorgia I remember you had a colonoscopy, but I entirely missed that you had a surgery! What’s up???

@bert1802 Well done on being so consistent about walking, and even talking yourself into it on Monday! 💪🙌 And you’re absolutely right that being consistent about what days you fast isn’t at all important, only that you actually fast…so, another “well done”!

I took a picture the other day to show what we have to deal with in the garage. Enjoy the big laugh! https://imgur.com/gallery/full-garage-waiting-to-be-unpacked-put-away-Q7t1rAU

The same weight for 3 days… must be a record!!
We have bad weather heading towards us so I need to sweep up the next lot of oak leaves soon.
Thanks for the Scotcheroos update!! They sound a wee bit like our kids party food called chocolate crackles minus the peanut butter – Rice Bubbles, coconut, icing sugar and chocolate plus choccy icing… https://www.taniaskitchen.co.nz/rice-bubbles-chocolate-crackles-recipes/
@stitchincarol I didn’t think there was too much stuff to sort until I realised it was a double garage🤣!! Well done on your WF too.
@bert1802 Well done on your Just Do it!! ✅ walking !! Your husband is a great cheerleader!! And for keeping it together for the week💪
@j’aifaim It’s interesting to do a conversion, like @lilymartin did. I can recall my weight when I was 20 but it was in pounds and stone!! I was super fit back then and weighed around 135 lbs / 9 1/2 st, not going over 140lb / 10st mark. I thought I was close to that weight now but am about 5kg=11.0231 lb heavier!!! And the extra is not muscle🤣
However, my aim is just to create a buffer so I don’t go into the 70kgs every time I go away or have a fun weekend 🤣. Therefore I am still working on the holy grail of onwards and downwards!! I still require 2 FDs per week to keep myself in check🙁!!
@northgeorgia I hope you’re feeling brighter today. Make sure you rest up drink lots of water. Some of those anaesthetic drugs take a wee bit of time to work their way out of your system.

    Day 19 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – FD

@stitchincarol – Congrats on that number, & the successful WFD! 💪 Yes, I was thinking about your organ music, as it sounds like you have so much of it & it takes up so much space. I don’t think I’m at all techie, just the opposite in fact. But after yesterday at line-dancing.. – our teacher Marie was trying to teach us a new dance, but the music was too fast. She was streaming it from YouTube on her phone. So I asked her why she didn’t just slow it down a bit. After I showed her how to do it, you’d think I’d just walked on water! 😅 No, I didn’t sleep late the other day; Tuesday is the one day of the week I set my alarm for 6:20, although Boo Boo does the job most of the time anyway. I just feel like a complete slob though, if I go out without making the bed. Your garage – not quite as bad as I’d imagined. In fact, add a fridge & two chest freezers, & it looks pretty much like what I found in my dad’s garage in NZ after he passed away.

@merryapple – a good number to have for three consecutive days! And maybe a new low on the horizon after today’s FD? I think I’m always going to need two FDs per week too if I want to stay at my current weight.

@bert1802 – well done for getting all your steps in! 🎯 There are worse things to be addicted to. You’ll feel better – if you’re not already – & you WILL start to enjoy it. It’s a virtuous circle

@jaifaim – not just ‘a’ bag of crisps, but a BIG bag?! 😱 Feel free to put yourself on the NSL 😜

@northgeorgia – urrgh?! sounds grim?! I hope you’re feeling more like yourself today, & that your op has been a success?

@iona72 – good luck with the construction?! You just reminded me about today’s Wordle. I temporarily abandoned it earlier. So far after 3 attempts, I’ve got 3 letters, but all in the wrong place 🙄

    Day 19 – USA/GA – NFD – 237 lbs.

Sorry, not to worry anyone. I accidentally used “surgery.” Yes, just a colonoscopy with one polyp removed. My body must be a wimp for this procedure. When I go back in five years, I think I’ll need to suggest a different prep. After I took the 2nd liquid, within an hour I had violent shaking (not just a light chill) as if I had hypothermia for a solid two hours. I threw up the hour after that. Nausea and throwing up is normal, but I don’t think two hours of shaking so bad I couldn’t read the text on a cellphone in one hand is. I must have been allergic to something in that. Then to have the anesthesia side effects include shoulder, neck and side pain, for two days… egads. Yesterday was better. Today I only feel a little crick in my neck. All I can say is that I’m glad today is a holiday in the U.S., so I can have an extra day to keep recovering. If I ever have major surgery, I guess I better expect beyond their suggested recovery time!

    Day 19 – Nebraska, USA – FD800 – 153.8

Today is the day to completely settle our bedroom; I have a lot of shoes/clothes and am struggling to make them fit in our closet. So I’m sorting through, eliminating everything I can talk myself into, etc., etc. We’ll also carry all my organ music downstairs, so that’ll be lots of exercise on our free stairmaster, LOL!

@merryapple I’m fascinated by “kremelta.” Is that basically shortening? And where does the chocolate base come from; does the kremelta mix with the cocoa powder and sink to the bottom? Cool recipe! And yes, a double garage, and my car is packed with organ music, and DH’s truck had more in it (https://imgur.com/gallery/52-years-10-days-of-organ-music-UEC6V9A)…and the basement is already filled with stuff waiting to be unpacked, sorted, put away…I didn’t think we had THAT much stuff until I started moving it and trying to put it away here, LOL!

@iona72 Ugh, that’s so hard to prepare over hours instead of days! Hopefully you were able to pack up/shift everything in a way that will make it easy to find in the interim and then easy to put away. Remind us what you’re having done?

@funshipfreddie LOL, there is actually a fridge and a (single) chest freezer in the garage! And that had to have been daunting to deal with all that stuff in your dad’s garage! DH and I are both determined to thin down our possessions–except it’s stupid to get rid of stuff we use just for the sake of having less, so it all takes lots of thought.

@northgeorgia Oh my, that’s a huge reaction to a colonoscopy! You poor thing. I’m glad you’re recovering, even if it is slower than you’d like.

We don’t have the fish in the freezer I used to prepare for a standard FD500, and we do have leftovers from our Cajun/Creole meal out last night, so I chose to label this day a FD800. I allowed myself a single piece of Scotcheroos last night, only to cave and have a second piece later, plus a nibble a little later. Like I said, irresitable and addictive. So today, I get NONE, and hopefully DH will have them finished soon, LOL! And whatever I end up eating WILL be below 800 calories. 💪👍

Day 20 NZ Matariki NFD 69.4kg🔻🌋

It’s the beginning of the Māori New Year today, directed by the reappearance of a cluster of Matariki and 6 other stars over the horizon. It is celebrated over several days and used for remembering the deceased, planning harvests, forecasting weather and the fortunes of the upcoming year etc
We have walked up a different maunga with the dogs this morning along with lots of others who are enjoying a day off!!
@stitchincarol Chocolate Crackles are a real kids recipe because they get to help!!
Melt 250g vegetable shortening in a pot
Sift 1 cup icing sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa together and add to the pot, mixing well.
Then add together 4 cups of Rice Bubbles and 1 cup fine coconut and mix thoroughly.
Spoon into cupcake cases and put in the fridge for 30 minutes. That’s it!!
@northgeorgia It might be worth asking which drugs were used for your anaesthetic so you can avoid them in the future. There are always other options and it does sound like you have had a reaction to something with that shaking. Your sore shoulders etc may be more to do with positioning and intubation. Operating tables are not known for their comfort!! But certainly discuss this with your surgeon when you go to your follow up appointment.
@j’aifaim That @funshipfreddie is always full of great advice🤣 Taking something like cut up pieces of carrot on a train is a poor substitute for a BIG bag of crisps🤣
@iona72 Hope your construction is going well… Great that you are a non snacker too!!
I’m going off to afternoon tea and am going to make cheese scones. Baking has become a luxury these days because it is so expensive…
Thanks to the international dairy prices we are paying over $9 for 500g / 17.637 oz of butter. It’s gone up 50% in the last year, like blocks of mousetrap cheese. Our supermarkets are all owned by the Australians who charge us more here than in Oz
    NZD 9 = USD5.38 = £4 = Oz 8.30
There are no food miles involved, dairy uses all our natural water supplies and then they say we have to pay the international prices… Supermarkets like Tescos do deals on bulk orders so you can buy NZ produce more cheaply in the UK than here. This sort of sophistry contributes to why capitalism is failing… That’s today’s lecture!!

    Have a great day everyone!!
    Onwards and downwards!!

    Day 20 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD 71.3 kg 🎯

Can’t believe it’s Friday again, & how fast this month is flying by. Aiming to be a weekend warrior, with a very controlled Fri/Sat & a usual Sunday FD 🏹

@stitchincarol – it was daunting going through all my dad’s stuff. Thank God I had my aunt & uncle to help me. We made numerous trips to a charity shop & to a local dump. The freezers were full of food, a lot of it wasn’t labelled or dated, so we had to just get rid of a lot of it. My mum was a bit of a shop-a-holic, & I found bags of towels/bedding that had never even been opened, & clothes with the labels still on. And she died 12 years before my dad!

@merryapple – wow, that is expensive for butter?! It’s not cheap here either. The regular price is about R 80, or about US$4.50. It’s one of the few things I usually buy when it’s on special offer. I don’t use that much, & there’s nearly always a better deal to be had somewhere. Cheese scones, enjoy! 😋

    Happy Fri-yay! 🍹

Stop overthinking. JUST DO IT ✔

    NSL – Day 20 🚫🍿
    @funshipfreddie

    Day 20 – USA/GA – NFD – 239 lbs

Just a quick check-in. Feeling lots better at last. Off to work, and planning Monday as my next FD.

    Day 20 – Nebraska, USA – NFD – 152.0

The Scotcheroos called to me and I wasn’t strong enough to resist the call, but I had such small nibbles that It was the equivalent of perhap 2, maybe 3, bites. And since I’d allowed up to 800 calories, I was good, although I think my blackened fish and broccoli and two hush puppies were actually below 500 calories, making room for those nibbles. So, long explanation, I’m feeling good about yesterday. In fact, while out running errands, I even drove DH and me to one of our favorite breweries and he had a beer while I was content with my water. 😇

Occasionally I have to mention our weather. At 10pm last night, it was still 82/28 and the low last night was 76/24. Tonight’s low is supposed to be 82/28 because the high for the next three days is supposed to be triple digits–right around 104/40. And on top of that the wind is blowing like crazy so both the heat and the wind is going to dry out everything. This is when I’m particularly thankful for AC and so sympathetic for those who have outside jobs. 💞

@merryapple Ahhh, so Kremelta is indeed vegetable shortening! Can butter be used instead? And I enjoy the details of your life in NZ, with your walks, the Māori New Year , etc.; thanks for sharing!

@funshipfreddie Ah, yes, stuff with the tags still on…you poor thing with all that, plus freezer food that you’re doubtful about. I’ve come across a few things with tags and was consumed with the appropriate guilt. I have certainly had no interest in shopping for anything given all the possessions that surround us! I took my car FULL of books to Goodwill last week, took another load of multiple boxes to Goodwill early this week, and took several more boxes to a different charity yesterday. It feels good to get rid of stuff!

@northgeorgia So glad you’re feeling so much better, as I’m sure you are as well!

    @penz Having pizza tonight?

Oh, and @jaifaim, I found a package of GF pizza mix that’s apparently quite good; it was recommended to us by a waitress at Sunday brunch two weeks ago; I’ll report back when we get it made.

Well, got the bedroom done yesterday, got the guest bedroom across the hall from us a bit better and need to set up our printer as I have things to print for a convention next week, have the first of three loads of laundry going, and am going to put away all my organ music today so that mess is eliminated. But first, I must water my plants baking in the hot sun!

    Have a grand one, everyone!

Day 21 NZ NFD 69.4kg Winter Solstice!!

Yeah!! Our days will now get longer and warmer… Although not as warm as the USA is experiencing… 🫠
@stitchincarol I love blackened fish. I found a spice mix here from Louisiana 🖤. Otherwise I use coarse oat meal to coat it.
Hmmm! Butter vs shortening… That would be like making them with chocolate icing??? Butter is 80% dairy fat plus 20% natural water. Soggy Rice Bubbles??? Vegetable shortening is 100% fat, is tasteless and gives a crisp finish. I looked up the hx because they are sooo popular for kids’ parties. The first published recipe was in the Australian Women’s Weekly in 1937!!
@funshipfreddie After hearing about you clearing out your family ‘junk’ I thought about someone going through my junk and finding my deepest darkest secrets 😲. Now that is motivating to get on and deal with my excess baggage!!!

Have great day today and be a weekend warrior!!

    Day 21 UK NFD

Morning all , got home yesterday, plan is to readjust to normality over the weekend, catch up on posts and be raring to go Monday morning 💪 oh and I suppose I should step on the scales – Have a great Saturday all

    Day 21 – USA/GA – NFD – 238 lbs.

I hemmed and hawed a bit about this, but I decided to attend a cookout/barbecue this afternoon to meet up with some former co-workers when I taught public school years ago. I don’t recognize 75% of the guest list, but I would like to catch up with those I do know.

And you know, yes, I wish I had taken more drastic measures three years ago when my weight started increasing and by now I’d be about the same weight when they last saw me. I’m sure in their memories, they’ll think how I’ve ballooned 60 pounds or so since they last saw me, and it’ll be true. But, I’ve only myself to blame for that. Still, I thought I might never have a chance to see some of these folks ever again, so I should go. And I doubt my weight will be top of their minds anyway.

Well, although this week’s average of a pound gain probably shouldn’t count, I like to keep a running record. And the good news is that I’m down a pound over last Saturday morning. I think that is promising. Lots of stressful news again coming up. We were told our budgets are no good and a new budget is being released next week. This with a new fiscal year and payroll starting July 1 and not knowing if money is there. In the end, the boss gets blamed if someone gets a pink slip, which makes less sense when I need all these workers plus some. I’m hoping they release it towards the beginning of the week so I can start figuring out how to save as many people as possible.

    Day 21 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

Oops?! Forgot to check in again, duh? Dunno where this morning went, despite waking at 6:30 am. And now it’s over 9 hours later.

@stitchincarol – it does feel good getting rid of stuff that’s been cluttering up our homes. So much stuff we put away in boxes & cupboards; & then we forget it even exists – until we have to move.

@merryapple – I love your optimism, but.. the days will get longer AND warmer? A tiny bit longer maybe, but we’re only three weeks into winter! It’s a cosy 21 C here today though. I hear the UK is also having a heatwave, reaching 34 C today in some areas.

@northgeorgia – Good to hear you’re feeling better. Enjoy the barbecue, & fingers 🤞 your new budget arrives timeously.

    @brightonbelle – welcome back! 🤗

    NSL – Day 21 🚫🍿
    @funshipfreddie

    Day 21 – Nebraska, USA – NFD – 152.4

I’m getting better and better about controlling my eating, hence the quite lovely weight. I’m feeling optimistic that I’m actually on the way down again; we’ll see if my body cooperates and if I continue to control my eating so effectively. I’m down 13 lbs from last summer and would love to be down another 13 lbs by fall sometime.

@merryapple Well, you have a very practical way of figuring out using shortening v. butter! Yup, I can see it wouldn’t substitute. I’ll make those treats someday when the granddaughters are around, or perhaps later this summer when we go to Indianapolis to visit them! And, yeah, I first discovered blackening about 30 years ago and often choose that as my favorite preparation.

@brightonbelle Welcome back! I hope your vacation was lovely and fun and relaxing in that exact blend that made it perfect!

@northgeorgia Excellent decision to see your friends again. It’s hard to get past the things that make us uncomfortable, but I’ll just bet many of them are also irritated by the extra weight they’re carrying around compared to years ago, so you’ll be in the same boat as many, I’m sure. Have fun!

@funshipfreddie “So much stuff we put away in boxes & cupboards; & then we forget it even exists – until we have to move.” So very true!! I’m not getting rid of nearly enough to say I’m truly downsizing, but I’m ending up with less than what we moved, so that’s certainly a start. Do you have lots of “stuff” or are you more restrained in your possessions? And, @merryapple, when you said “After hearing about you clearing out your family ‘junk’ I thought about someone going through my junk and finding my deepest darkest secrets 😲. Now that is motivating to get on and deal with my excess baggage!!!” I chuckled–and realized how true that is for us as well. Mark and I have given two days of the week designations: Wandering Wednesdays, the day we’ll go do the fun things (museums, trips to little towns worth visiting, parks we’ve heard of etc.) and Sorting Saturday, the day we’ll go through stuff we’ve set aside to deal with later, or to clear out a drawer that’s gotten messy, or to clean the garage (once it’s emptied of boxes, of course, LOL). We haven’t yet started with that since we haven’t really had time to wander on Wednesdays, and we’re sorting every day of the week, but, yeah…lots to deal with in the Swedish Death Cleaning/ Norwegian Life Cleaning style!

And, @ccco, where have you wandered off to??

    Have a grand one, everyone!

‘Nuff said re eating habits !!
I just read this quote from Brian ?? who established the magazine Simplify or The Minimalist Life.
” Life is a thinking game. Positive habits require consistent attention and focus.
But they are always worth it.”
    Must remember this.
It seems a few of us are into the cleaning out/decluttering.
I have WAY too much stuff and need to be less emotionally attached to it.
I have a lot of difficulty giving things away, just in case I need it…..
And @stitchincarol( well done on the lower weight BTW 😇)giving away books ….😲😲 I’d feel as though I’d given away my first child!! 😬
A few days ago I had written a longggg post about sheep, drenching etc but it disappeared into the ether so I gave up and have not posted since ,with some not so good results re 5:2.
    Accountability is what helps me!!
So it is a CD today. Despite it only being 12ºC after 4ºC last night which is cold for us. Brrrr.
@merryapple,I Was so cold I stayed reading in bed this reading for a while. When I mentioned how dark it still was my DH said hadn’t I noticed the daylight was 1 minute longer !!😀
    Intentionality today for me.
    Happy 🌞day.

    Day 21 second post

I doubt I’ll have time or inclincation to post tomorrow between church and brunch with the boys and then life, so thought I’d write a quick post tonight before heading to bed.

I have no idea where the woman I’ve been today came from, but I’ve eaten very little all day, and said “No, thank you” on multiple occasions to DH (nuts, a glass of wine, etc., etc.) and been content. I think partly it’s that the brown sofa I used to sit on didn’t come with us, so I have different furniture to choose fron and that psychological (yes, @lilymartin, thinking about it has always been a huge part of whether I am or am not successful) difference is huge. It’s also because I’m simply busier, and that gives me less time to think about food, and I certainly don’t have time to cook except occasionally, and we’re sick to death of eating out, so meals have been simple and minimal.

    I’m sure liking it!

    Day 22 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – FD 😇

@stitchincarol – I don’t have much clutter any more. Which is no surprise after my 5 moves between 2019 – 2023. I got rid of loads of books, CDs & DVDs etc. And I’m determined to keep my place mostly clutter-free. I have no problem getting my car in my garage! 😅

Zero chat in me today, & it’s a glorious, sunny day, so I’m off out.

    Happy S🌞nday!

Right I’ve got on the scales not too bad 2-3lbs up which considering the amount of pizza and granita and brioche ( not to mention Campari Spritz) I’ve gone through I’m ok with – now back to the serious business of shifting some flab – see you on the list tomorrow 💪

    Day 22 – USA/GA – NFD – 239 lbs.

Attending the barbecue was a great decision. I spent hours catching up and listening to others, meeting some new folks, too. The host, also a former co-worker, said he is thinking about holding another one in the fall. I’m so glad I went!

    Tomorrow will be my FD.

    Hi all!

A quick check in and I haven’t read posts but am here and heading into a better week – Zero crisps this week @funshipfreddie 🤣🤣 and will take it week by week. Another thing to cut down again is milky coffees. I’ve fallen back into both of those bad habits but am not having added sugars and UPFs and have not had alcohol in a long time. @funshipfreddie are you still off alcohol?

Ok will catch up on posts and see you all tomorrow 🌅

Hi everyone – remember me? Been missing the company and helpful hints so, if I may, I’ll rejoin you all. Why Gardenlily – mad about gardening, now volunteering for local garden charity one day a week as well as helping a national wildlife organisation. Weightwise been hovering around my target, bit up, bit down (not enough down!) and do need motivation right now to get it down a bit. Had a rough couple of months with partner very sick and it’s far too easy to grab a take-away to save cooking and cleaning up. Not good idea! Fed up with the hot weather, no rain (save a teaspoon last night) for weeks, allotment parched, garden rock hard under the weeds, at least the grass doesn’t need cutting!! Got visitors from NZ arriving in 2 weeks so need to shed 5lb – you guys are going to help, yes?

    Day 23 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD 71.2 kg 🎯

@gardenlily – welcome back! 5 lb in two weeks?! You could do it! 💪 A good place to start – add yourself to the spreadsheet, & check in here everyday. So, is today a fast day? Or a ‘No Snacking’ day?

@northgeorgia – I’m glad your barbecue/reunion went well. And maybe another one in the fall, when you could be considerably lighter!

@brightonbelle – only 2/3 lb up after your holiday? Well done! And 8 whole days of June left to shift it 😉

@jaifaim – yes, still off the booze. Just checked the app on my phone; it says ‘2 years, 8 months & 22 days’. Or 996 days! 🚫🍷 Can’t say the same about cappuccinos, but I think I should be allowed one vice ☕

    2nd post – Cambridgeshire
@funshipfreddie – yep, fasting day. I fluctuate between fasting til noon and eating within 8 hr window and just sticking to 500 cal over a day – not sure which works best. What do the rest of the group think? I have been keeping a steady(ish) weight for over a year doing occasional fasting days, depending upon workload but recently it’s fallen a bit by the wayside. Need to focus!! Must also catch up on all the group news – good to see some ‘old faces’ in the group.

    Day 23 – Lincoln, Nebraska, USA – NFD – 153.4

Yesterday wasn’t as well-behaved as Saturday, but was decent enough. Today, I plan to stay super busy so that ignoring food is simple.

@funshipfreddie Yeah, just rub salt in the wound by celebrating that YOU can get your car in your garage, LOL! We took cardboard to the recycling last week and that made a huge difference, and we’ve been slowly grabbing things to put away inside, but it’s still going to be some time before that garage is emptied. 😢

@brightonbelle Only up 2-3 pounds? VERY impressive! And it’s excellent to have you back with us! 🥰

@northgeorgia So good that you had such a lovely time on Saturday! A pound each week is very doable with a man’s metabolism, so how much could you be down if you simply make excellent behavior on NFDs non-negotiable by the fall gathering?

@jaifaim I will agree that eliminating crisps from your diet is an excellent decision, but milky coffees with no sugar added (so, just steamed/frothed milk and espresso, right?)…what’s the problem with those? The protein in the milk is an excellent addition to your diet, right?

@gardenlily WELCOME BACK!! How’s your DH at this point; has he recovered at all from the “very sick” you mentioned? I remember you were going to tests and appointments with him when you were last posting regularly, so I imagine the health problems got progressively worse from there. As you aim to lose 5 pounds in the next two weeks, don’t forget the power of minimizing salt to drop water weight along with actual weight; it won’t stay off, but you’ll feel and look thinner, and for such an occasion as visitors, a temporary fix isn’t all bad. And I’m very impressed that, in the middle of all the commotion you’ve been experiencing, you haven’t gained back a bunch of the weight you lost! Well, well done!! As to TRE v. FD500, I think switching it up between the two, rather than sticking to one or the other, is the most beneficial so our bodies don’t get used to a routine. What do the rest of you think?

I spent several hours yesterday getting paperwork in order for a convention that’s coming up this week through Sunday, and am close to prepared. Now the challenge will be to find a binder and the sleeves to put said paperwork in said binder, LOL! At least the triple-digit heat wave with strong winds is over, and rain is even forecast, so that will eliminate my watering duties on a day or two.

So, I’m off to start sorting in the garage and putting away what I can. Have a grand one, everyone!

I have been so busy lately that I haven’t even had time to read the posts. Spring always brings with it so much activity but this week we are having dangerously high temperatures, so I will be staying in air conditioning.

Welcome back, gardenlily. I love gardening, too. This year my grandchildren and I even started a vegetable garden. They love “harvesting” their crops!

    Enjoy the day! 🤗

    Day 24 NZ NFD 69.3🔻🌋🏃🏼‍♀️

We drove down to a country market market on Sunday morning…
For brunch I finally settled on a chilli and beans empanada and a wee cigar shaped pastry filled with butterscotch from an Argentinian food truck. 😋 Plus mulled wine 😅 I came home laden with fresh winter vegetables, smoked fish for a Kedgeree, buffalo mozzarella and feta…
I have had too many lazy nights of roasted root vegetables plus a Moroccan sausage (they come in a 6 pack) this last week so I want to have a bit more variety…
Welcome back @gardenlily!! I hope your NZ visitors behave themselves🤣 If you loose them they’ll probably be in a country pub!!!!
I try to stick to 3 meals a day (carbs at breakfast & lunch not at night), no snacking on NFDs; then on FDs, at 4pm, have a boiled egg and maybe an apple and eat dinner (500+cals) an hour earlier than usual.
Weekends, trips away, dinner parties and other fun times disrupt my routine so reaching my goal weight has become like searching for the holy grail…😁
5lbs sounds manageable if you have nerves of steel!!!
I hope your DH is getting over his illness… Tough times…
@brightonbelle Welcome home!! Congrats on a modest weight gain!!! Reading backwards is like traveling back in time without the deja vue factor… 😂 I hope you’re now oriented to time and place!!
@funshipfreddie What are you going to celebrate with when you get to a 1,000 days??🤣 I once did a dry month in my 20s for a bet… Everyone thought I was still drinking because of my behaviour and didn’t believe I was stone cold sober… I did notice I was still raring to go in the wee small hrs when half the party was propped up against the wall🤣
    @stitchincarol It’s under 10C / 50F here every morning…
You’re v close to getting into the 149 lbs!! Go you!!
@northgeorgia Great to hear you had a lovely BBQ.

    Day 24 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

@gardenlily – sounds like what you’ve been doing works just fine; you just need to keep doing it. Maybe try 4:3 for a couple of weeks, if it’ll help to shift those 5 lbs? I usually do Sun/Thurs FDs, & TRE (around noon til 8 pm) the rest of the week. Fast Days I just have a smallish evening meal around 7 pm.

@jaifaim, @brightonbelle – yes, almost 1000 days. And to think I’d only planned on doing Sober October ’22!

@stitchincarol – If it’s any consolation, it’s a very small garage 😅 And if you’d moved as many times as me, you’d have a lot less clutter too.

@merryapple – “Everyone thought I was still drinking because of my behaviour and didn’t believe I was stone cold sober…” 😂 why am I not surprised? I hadn’t given the 1000 days a thought until @jaifaim asked me if I was still on the wagon. But I think I’ll wait until the 3 year mark, & then crack open a bottle of vanilla & pomegranate sparkling grape juice. It’s cold here too, currently 11 C (feels like 9) at 7:20 am 🥶
