  • Starting my new life style tomorrow. Really looking forward to it. I have no doubt there will be difficult times but I’m looking at the long term. I enjoy a drink on the evening, just a beer or a glass of wine. Has anyone else started their 36 hour fast at 11 pm after a drink? Any advice? I think I can cope with two nights without a drink, maybe not four!

Had my bloods taken yesterday, going for results on the 30th. I’m going to take a note of them and have them retaken in six months to see if there’s any improvement.

    Hi Jimbod888
I started July 2014 Lost a stone and a half up to Christmas missed a starving day and put on a 4-5 lb.
I start my starving day when I go to bed Sunday evening and either don’t eat or eat little Monday and don’t eat until around midday Tuesday. I never usually have breakfast anyway. I like my drink too so could not give that up or snacking 4 nights although I work shift so the afternoon shift is very easy for me till I get home and realise I can’t have my normal ale when I get in or snack. I do the same Wednesday, go to bed and I starve till Friday at least till midday. I feel really good and I really look forward to Monday after eating and drinking all weekend.
Although I find my attitude has change a bit towards food on my none fasting days I generally carry on as normal. Some times I’ve thought I shouldn’t be eating this and say to myself “I can because that’s why I’m doing this diet”
I’m 60 and was 15 1/2 stone. Now 13 10 I seem to be stabilising or at least slowing down but my beer belly has all but gone, and I can see me doing this for the rest of my life.
I did miss a day over Christmas and missed 3 days when I went on holiday in September. Although all inclusive I still had 1 day starving.
Wish you all the best and most of all enjoy life on the diet. Hope you post the results of your blood test.
    Good luck

Hi Dimbeck, thats very helpful thanks. I’m described as a fit fatty (lol). I’m 19st 1lb and looking to get down to 17st 3lb, (feel good at that weight). Like you I can go without breaky but I’m sure I’ll get hungry on the afternoon. Not looking forward to the long evenings….. what do you do for the evenings?

    Hi jim and welcome:

Your diet ‘period’ runs from the last time you eat on, say, Monday, until the first time you eat on Wednesday, twice a week.

Here is most of the information you will need to be successful on 5:2: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

hi, started today, or should I say 11pm last night. Feel ok up to now. Off to the driving range for some golfy then a very small chicken salad when i get in. Keeping an eye on water consumption. Going to try and drink 500ml every two hours.

    Hi Jim
I work shifts and on my 2-10 I’m ok till I get home and want my beer and snacks but I sit with a pint of water and sip on that while I’m up. Probably be better if I went to bed a bit earlier.
On my 6-2 I find it a bit harder and usually have something to eat at about 1800 usually pilchards with salad or half a tin of baked beans on a slice of toast, or pilchards on toast still well under 600 cals. There’s a lot of things you can eat once you start looking at the cals in food. Not sure if their the best things but it does me fine.
I do drink coffee during the day, sometimes with very little milk or none at all so if I eat anything I keep it low in cals.
I sometimes find it easier not to eat as it makes me hungrier to eat little. I find eating very slow seems make it feel like a bigger meal.
Hope your first day went well.

Hi, all went well yesterday, kept my fluids up which helped. Had a small portion of gammon and two ryvitas for supper (170 cals). Got up this morning with a slight headache, big drink of low cal juice and some water soon sorted that. Had a slice of toast for breaky.
Golf course still snowed off, grr. Going to have a normal dinner about midday.
The most convenient time for day 2 is actually Saturday. Going out for a meal tonight and start day two at midnight again.
Have you put two days in three days? How did it go?
    Cheers Jim.

Saturday went well. Home made soup and gammon for dinner 200 cals, chicken and onion omelette for tea, 220 cals, one slice of fruit loaf toast for breaky, 130 cals. felt ok.
Going to weigh myself two days after each second fast, so tomoz.
