  • I’ve never dieted before and this diet seems to be a practical way of losing some weight.I’m not able to do a lot of walking because of arthritis.I take a 10mg blood pressure medication and wonder if that is a problem if I’m dieting? blood pressure is in the normal range but fluctuates occassionally.

    Hi,

My BP was creeping up despite medication before I started losing weight on 5:2 and it has dropped significantly. There is no reason why it should be a problem for you.
Exercise gets/keeps you fit and tones the body, calorie restriction is what causes weight loss. I have arthritis and you’ll find that once you drop somw weight your joints will thank you and you’ll be more mobile. If you want to exercise why don’t you try swimming?

    Good luck

I am 53 and have lost 45 lbs in the last 10 months, and I can tell you from a lot of personal experience that losing weight long term has very little to do with calorie restriction and absolutely nothing to do with exercise. To each her own way, but the human body stores fat when insulin levels are high. Insulin levels rise when you eat bad carbs like bread, pasta, sugar, etc, and when you constantly eat. The fewer carbs and the longer between meals (fasting), the more you lose. Doing this diet, you will see it happen. Eat fewer carbs and QUIT exercise and you will see more. Try it for a week…no or very little bad carbs..lettuce and veggie carbs are good…And see what happens.

Here is an awesome website that tells in very simple terms how it works.

Thank you Amazon, unfortunately I can’t swim but I am booked into a water aerobic class but it doesn’t start till May.I’m going to invest in a Fitbit so I’m able to see how much I move during the day and hopefully it will help to motivate me to do a bit more each day..I have no-one else who can help.

Thank you Fitnfast just had a quick look at the website, looks interesting,I’ll definately have a proper read later tonight. This is all so new to me,other diets seem to want you to starve and exercise till you drop and I’ve never been in favour of those, but this seems to make more sense.
