  • Hi there.
Im 47, been a yoyo dieter since I can remember and have just had a guts full of obsessing with food with being on plans that restrict you from enjoying life lol..
I have just finished reading the book over the wknd and have a few friends who have done it and been successful so I’m biting the bullet and starting tomorrow eeekk.
Im a little nervous but excited too. Are there any newbies( or oldies) who would like to stay in touch motivate each other or bounce ideas around?? Love to hear how others are getting on.

    Hi I’m from NZ too.
I have read some of the book and am just looking for more infomation, recipes , groups before i do this !!!

Awesome let’s stay in touch. On my first day today. ..so far so good. Bit of a headache but nothing I can’t handle. I have also downloaded my fitness pal app which is great for recording and finding out calories. I work my 500 calorie days on this beforehand. 😁😨

Do you know of any websites that have recipes that you can have on fast days that add up to 500 calories?
Or any good Facebook groups or pages that have this also?
I’m no good at calorie counting

no i just use my fitness pal..haven’t looked into recipes as i have just been doing my own days of food i like and want, 🙂

I’ve been looking online most of the night for simple meals… But they are all complicated. And lots of thing I don’t eat…. Back to the drawing bord

Hi. Just looking into the fast diet now. I’ll be looking to keep my fast days pretty simple. Once things get complicated, I get discouraged and blow the diet. I’m 35 and have been yo yo dieting for years. My goal weight is at least 30 kilos below what i am now.
    Also in nz. 🙂

I like simple… If things get too complexities then I get flustered and give up as its too mich work.
I’m 30 and want to loose the 13 kg that I’ve put on over the past year

Yeah me too…I’ve got 3 kids so I have to feed them constantly too as well as keeping on a budget. I’m thinking my fasting days will be Wednesday and Monday. I work full time and can usually keep my eating in check while at work.

Yes budgeting is a big thing in our house hold too… I’m thinking Monday and Thursday its just coming up with what to eat and finding recipes that suit.

    Hi Serena and welcome:

If you like simple and don’t want to work too hard cooking, why don’t you decide not to eat anything on your diet days? Simple, no calorie counting and very effective. Just a thought.

    Here are some tips: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

Hi I think that might be a bit dangerous not having anything to eat all day as I am very busy and running a household.😄 Thanks for the advise

    Hi Serena:

    Why would it be ‘dangerous’?

You need to eat to have Energy and fuel yourself… It’s like putting petrol in a car ……
Starving yourself just to loose weight isn’t a fun or great idea.

    Hi Serena:

    I see.

    Good Luck!

Hi Serena and Lottie! Just finished day 2! I have found it relatively easy. Its good to be busy. I have a small breakfast, then nothing but a trim flat white at about 2 at work as well as water and herbal tea..then about 7 i have a sm dinner..its worked good for me this way. If i felt myself thinking about food i just think tomorrow I can have that if i want it and it seems to work. Simple is good…i am eating stuff on those days that are quick and easy for me. Good luck ladies… keep on touch. 🙂

Hi Serena77 and lottiejc. How are you going?

    Hi don
    I havnt started yet 😩
I’m hoping to get some foods this week and start on Monday 😄
hope you are all doing well
What do you eat for breakfast?

    Hi Serena,

Breakfast? Bowl of LOW sugar high fat plain greek yogurt. Some blueberries (or any berry you like) and some raw almonds. Stay away from cereals or toast or any simple carbs as they will make it really hard for you to succeed.

Lunch/dinner? If you like simple I just have a big bowl of chicken or tuna salad. I have my vegetables raw. Just throw in any green vegetables you can think of that you like. eg Cucumber, zucchini, lettuce, broccoli, mushrooms. 100g of tuna or chicken + 50g cheese cubed. A little LOW sugar salad dressing, two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (low sugar). One chili (if you like). This will keep you going all day.

Stay away from sugar and simple carbs like pasta, rice, bread. They make you hungry 30 minutes after eating.

Not eating for a day is NOT starving. People use the word starving when they haven’t eaten for a day! Its not, starvation occurs after weeks, not after a day. I used to do my two fast days consecutively and it was a water fast. Im in maintenance mode now and do 6:1. Water fasting teaches your body to utilise stored fats and turn them into ketones for fuel. Nothing dangerous about it. Our bodies are designed to use glucose or ketone as fuels. That’s the reason we store excess glucose as fat! In modern society we have forgotten (or been told) to only use glucose and to snack throughout the day. Just plain incorrect.

Drink lots of water. Its hard for about the first 4 weeks, after that your liver has begun to work again and you will be able to utilise stored fats as your energy source. I used to get slight headaches when I started, its your brain screaming for glucose as it doesn’t know how to make ketones quickly enough. I don’t get headaches anymore. Hang tough for 4 weeks, after that its pretty easy.

PS. As the ad says. Just do it. Don’t worry about “recipes”. 5:2 isn’t weightwatchers.

    Hi Serena,
I have been having stir fried mushrooms spinach and tomato with an egg and some chilli flakes..kinda made into omelet..a very thin one but one no less..:) Or some oats with almond milk and blueberries. Dinner is usually a salad from tank or pita pit at the moment until i get the hang of it more. I plan my two days on a sunday around my week ahead… like Big booty says drink lots of water or green tea in between…i too had headaches first few days but alg now.
Let me know how you go… 🙂 Donna

Thanks for the advice will let you know 😄

I am in the mighty Waikato and have been doing this since the end of December. So far so good with weigh day tomorrow looking for a 8kg drop.
I don’t do a lot of planning except for deciding on the actual days at the start of each week. However a pattern has emerged: when I shop I get lots of salad ingredients so I can have 100g protein with a very large salad between 4 and 6pm each day. I eat 100g symbio yoghurt and 5 almonds during the day as I feel the need on a general FD. However I have had quite a few days when I am out of town and then I tend to do the water fast option. The first time I did this I was worried that I would cave due to cravings but it was actually easier than eating. Listen to the advice that you find here (Big Booty for one) – for example cutting out the carbohydrates. The only day I added them to my FD I had real bad hunger pains so they are out from now on.
All the best and stay in touch. I don’t get to post very often but I do read as much as I can to learn as much as I can 🙂

Hi Jilly. Thanks for advice…yes stay in touch and good luck for the 8kg. 😆👍
    Donna

Hi all…how are we all doing.? On week 3 now. Weighed in Tues lost 1kg..and 0.4 body fat and gained lean muscle mass. Makes for a happy personal trainer.😁 I’ve been having the same to eat on my fast days. ..2 boiled eggs early morning and chicken salad at night with a trim latte mid afternoon as I start work at 2.30 and it keeps me saited.
Hope everyone is doing well. 😀 Donna

I havnt been goin Ng so well I keep caving in and eating Easter eggs and bickys at night 😩 So disappointed so I keep starting day one the next day

Hi everyone I am from the Kapiti Coast and started in February 2015. At the end of December 2015 I had lost 18.5kgs. Really pleased with this. I have another 10kgs to go and have yoyo’d this year so started looking at portion sizes and doing more exercise and thankfully have started losing again. I find I cannot eat whatever I want on the non fast days but this could be because of my age, I am 54. Also I want to eat healthy 99% of the time. On my fast days I have a regular trim latte before work, water through out the day and then a salad with cottage cheese for dinner. I had very high blood pressure when I started and my doctor wanted to put me on medication. I refused as I knew it was because of my weight and this kept me motivated, my BP is now in a healthy range.

My suggestion is to stop over thinking the fast and just do it. You don’t need recipes, eat fresh food, salad, steamed vegetables with herbs and garlic for flavour. Drink plenty of water during the day and go to bed earlier to stop you eating in front of the TV. Good luck everyone.

Serena77, I know all about caving in at night and starting again…and again!

I try to keep some more sensible things as fast breakers, because if you can avoid going too far over (eg 6-700 cals instead of the required 500) then it hasn’t been too disastrous, isn’t really failure, just not as low as the optimum loss amount of 500. Two tablespoons of plain unsweetened 0% Greek yogurt with a tablespoon of oat bran and about 50g raspberries is a diet breaker that doesn’t take it all too high.

Sorry that posted before I’d finished. I was trying to put ” two to three tablespoons” of the yogurt. With that combo you’ve only gone over by less than 100 cals. Similarly, if you keep a spare hard boiled egg in the fridge, it’s good for helping out hunger pangs. Tinned sardines work too, make sure they are tomato or brine ones though. Miso soup is good, as it has extra sodium in, which can also help. Chicken bouillon helps too. These are all things that are good on fast days anyway, not just to cheat with! If you do eat something extra like this, go off and do something immediately after, like a long shower or hair wash, a few emails or reading this site! It allows the food to kick in and be recognised by your system.

Try to have some fat in your cals, don’t use low fat foods. The yogurt I mentioned above is an exception and I normally use full fat. The fat helps, and research bears this out.

If I’ve eaten extra like this, I try to eat as late as possible the next morning on my non fast day to make up a little. I find however hungry I’ve felt the night before, the next day it’s gone. But do eat properly on a non fast day, have good quality meals, or the intermittent nature of this diet doesn’t get a chance to work.

Hi Apricot and annechatt. Nice to see how other people are doing and get tips. I’m on my 4th week now and loving it. I just keep busy on my fast days to keep my mind off things. Water and herbal teas are really helping. 😁 – 2.4 kgs down….our of triple figures now which hadn’t been seen for a good 8 mnths. 😀😁
