  • H,i everyone.

I started my 5:2 with the last two days fasting. I wasn’t able to plan for it as it was a sudden decision to start, following a rewatch of the Horizon doc on iPlayer, so I wasn’t able to plan the fast days.

I’m wondering if a handful of blueberries at breakfast (around 100 cal), tin of beans (340 cals) 2 toast (around 200 cal) for dinner is an okay intake for a fast day.

640 cals with a TDEE at 2600 seems the right amount, but I’m wondering if what I ate was okay. If it is it’ll be easy for me to manage my fast days repeating that and not having to plan meals.

I managed the last two days okay, with plenty of water.

    Hi Yusuf
It sounds ok since it is less than a quarter of your TDEE. And if it works, ie makes 5:2 a sustainable way of life, it is definitely fine.

    All power to you!

It’s fine in calorie terms, but when you begin to settle into it all for longer you may find it more helpful to eat food that lasts and keeps hunger more at bay, such as boiled or scrambled eggs or veg with some grated cheese, or one of the salads with anchovy, egg or feta cheese that Dr M suggests in his books. But as Cinque says, sustainability is the key, to which I’d add sustaining health.

There’s lots of good advice on this site, so keep posting!

Thanks, guys. That’s helpful. I’ll look into more varied meals when I can, but wasn’t sure if the fast day meal needed any specific components to work best. Good to know that the above will work on fast days when I can’t plan something more tailored.

Good afternoon everyone from France.Just started last month slow going. I purchased the fast recipe book, diet book and exercise book to get motivated.I swim twice a week and walk the dogs for 20 minutes per day + long 15 kilometre walk at the weekend. Stuck to the less than 500 calories for 2 spread days a week but progress is slow. May try 2 consecutive days on a swimming day to compare results.Hows it working for everyone else?

Hi, uriel. I’m new to this diet and this site so can’t suggest much, but maybe if you start a new thread you’ll get some replies and ideas from others.. I think this thread title will feel dealt with by the site users so they might not see your post.

It’s great that you are taking so much regular exercise though. I try and have a daily walk but it goes in fits and starts.
