  • So last January I started 5:2 for the first time (doing 4:3 instead) in an aim to lose weight with my first milestone being a skiing holiday in March.

I lost 21lbs by the holiday which I was obviously ecstatic about but the vast quantity of cheese and wine that I consumed whilst skiing got me out of the fasting mindset and I couldn’t get back on track.

I put a stone back on over the summer so decided to try something new that an old school friend was running. . . the Juice Plus. I did lose weight (10lbs in 7 weeks) it just wasn’t right for me and in november my efforts just kind of fizzled out.

Over Christmas and New Year along with January Blues I have put near enough all the weight back on so it is back to the drawing board!

My first fast day was yesterday, doing another today and then a third one on Thursday. I am also going to aim for 1500 calorie days the other 2 weekdays and then no restrictions on a weekend.

I again have the skiing trip in March so very much need to loose weight for that and then this time I will get back on track after!

According to the NHS my ideal weight rangee is 9st7-12st12

I am currently 18st2 so a mammoth journey ahead of me, any tips and support would be much appreciated!!

    Current Weight: 18st2/115.3KG
    Ideal Weight : 12st/76.2KG
First goal: 17st/107.9KG by March 12th

Ambitious first goal but with me doing 3 fast days and restricted calories on a further 2 days I do feel this is acheivable.

    Wish me Luck!!

Hi – I’m in pretty much the same place as you and this is my first day of fasting! I’m going to do two fast days – probably Tuesday and Thursday although I’ll allow those to move a little depending on social events etc.

    Good luck! x

Good Luck to you too Burnt Toast

Here’s to a great first week for both of us!

    Success!!

    5lbs/2.3KG lost in week 1.

Really happy with how its gone. 1st 2 fast days I struggled and at about 8pm I ended up snacking and going over to about 650-700cals.

On my 3rd fast day however I skipped brekkie due to a drs appointment and therefore had more calories to play with at dinner. This worked alot better and I nearly didn’t hit my 500. . . it meant I was able to have a treat after dinner and not feel guilty.

I am not aiming to restrict myself at a weekend at all (doing 1500 cals on my non fast weekdays) but I am on 4 hour coach journeys both sat and sun so figure I can probably still limit to 1500 without much effort.

Next week I am going to fast monday wednesday and thursday as its pancake day on tuesday which is my favourite day of the year!! Pancake addict me! So that I don’t feel restricted then I’m going to do fri, sat and sun that weekend as 1500 days.

Also going to boxing classes next week with friends from work. Determined to be fit and ready for my skiing holiday which is 5 weeks today!!

    Hello!
Not had the best 2 weeks fasting wise but the healthier choices I’ve been making in general have paid off.

Last week I had an epic fail on a fast day when I ended up in a KFC! We had been for a friends birthday drinks where I had been on Soda all night. I hadn’t eaten all day as I was having a fast day and knew I would want something to eat on the journey home after the drinks. My plan was a sandwich but my other half was a few pints down and dragged me into a kfc. Surprise surprise my will power didnt hold out. I didn’t have as much as i would have usually had BUT even so, I felt so disgusted with my self after, I really didnt enjoy it so have learnt my lesson. I’m so amazed how quickly my body has adapted to the healthier options and therefore seriously rejected what used to be a regular favourite takeaway!

I was so upset with myself for giving in I didn’t weigh myself last night as I was so sure it was bad news.

Back to it this week, but with family birthdays I only had time to do 2 fast days. Monday and Wednesday. Monday was going really well until about 9pm when I had a mass craving for something sweet. I thought I had cleared my cupboards of all things sweet so went for nosy at what else I could snack on. Unfortunately my boyfriend had bought a tub of ice cream over the weekend and my willpower was non existent when I saw that so I ate my way through half a tub of haagen daazs. Oh well. Yesterday when I had the same evening craving I went and made a piece of marmite on toast instead. . . definitely a better choice!

Fair to say, I really hadnt stuck to the fasting regime so I really only expected a couple of lbs off since my last weigh in 2 weeks ago.

    BUT. . . 8lbs/3.5kgs!!
So happy and just shows what a difference just simple changes in my reguar diet has made. I have also gone dry for lent which I think is helping!

3 weeks til my skiing holiday now and my original target was 17St for then but I would now like to adjust to 16st10lbs.

    Starting Weight: 18st2/115.3KG
    Ideal Weight : 12st/76.2KG
    Current weight: 17st3/109.5KG
Original goal: 17st/107.9KG by March 12th
Amended goal: 16st11/106.6KG by March 12th

This is how Ive gone about my 5:2 and it works for me. My two days are Monday and Tuesday (zero cals). I stick to that regardless of the situation. No ifs about it. My friends and work colleagues all know these are my two days, they know Im doing 5:2, so there is no awkwardness about being unsociable and not eating or drinking regardless of the occasion. No one takes offence.

At a recent work function which just happened to be on a Monday there was free food and drinks put on. I even had one of the secretaries come up to me and eat a chocolate donut in front of me, saying Hmmmmm donuts. It was in good humour as she knows Monday is a no go zone for me. I also went away with some of the guys for a long weekend. Come Monday when the guys were having beers and swapping stories, I was swapping stories and not having beers. No one was offended because they all knew it was a Monday.

Pick your two days, tell your friends and work mates and stick to it. In fact you’ll end up getting support from your friends with comments like, “man I wish I could do that”.
