  • Hello, just discovered this forum. I’m 67, and started the 5:2 a fortnight ago. I would like to lose a stone, more would be good.I find the fast days really easy, I don’t have a meal at all just have drinks and a Slimfast .I focus on my next days breakfast ,just cornflakes .I’ve cut out a lot on regular days, have never eaten junk food, fry ups etc and just have cake and desserts as a treat now.I lost 3 lbs in the first week but always put it back on in the regular days. I am an active person,I walk everywhere, as I don’t drive and am always busy but can’t do much exercise as I had knee replacement 18months ago.I am determined to persevere with this though, as I know I couldn’t do a diet as such IE,Weightwatchers,Slimming World. It’s comforting to know there are others who aren’t having a quick weight loss but even the good I know it’s doing is rewarding.

    Hi nannieb and welcome:

5:2 is not a quick weight loss diet. The average loss is about a pound a week, and losses are not consistent. You can go two or three weeks without losing anything, and then lose two pounds or three pounds in one week.

    Good Luck!

    Hi
I just finished my first week and lost 2lbs which I am delighted with.
I must admit I was hungry on my second day even after having dinner but managed not to have anything else until the next day.
I think when we get older it is harder to lose weight, I am 59 but not very active as I Rheumatoid Arthritis but I am going to start doing some kind of exercise even if it is walking. I do get sore knees and the extra weight does not help.
Its great you walk a lot especially after the knee op so well done.
You are doing well not to eat all day with only drinks and slimfast but if you find that is the best for you then go with that.

Hello Curley25 Thank you for your encouragement. I had my 7th fasting day yesterday and am still finding it easy knowing I can eat next day. Even with family here this week,I just cooked for them and sat with my drink while they ate and it didn’t bother me. I am sure eventually a pound here and there will drop off,I know it will be a slow process but I’m prepared for that.Good luck to you too

Way to go Nann. I can cook for my family as well on my fast days and it doesn’t bother me (too much). Try Swapping your cornflakes for plain rolled oats with high fat low sugar yogurt and some blueberries. Good luck with it. It works.
