  • Hi! I’m new to this site and I am new to the 5:2 diet. I started about 2 months ago without knowing anything about this diet except that I should eat 500 calories two non consecutive days per week. I just wanted to share my experience so far with everyone.

    1) I’ve lost about 15 pounds since I’ve started.

    2) I fell off the wagon twice, on week three I didn’t fast at all and on week four I only fasted the first day and skipped the second day.

    3) I love that I can eat anything I want on my non-fasting days! I eat everything, including sweets and junk food. However, I find myself not eating large quantities. I get full and I stop… without even trying. That was a very unexpected surprise.

    4) I did try this diet about two years ago and I failed after the first day. Fasting was too hard. But now that I’ve gained some experience, fasting days have become a lot easier to manage!

    5) Some days when the hunger is unbearable, I will cheat with a small bowl of pasta or ramen, and I will skip breakfast and have a late lunch the following day. Not sure if that is recommended but some nights the hunger is too strong! Especially when my roomies are all skinny and eat nothing but the fattiest foods!

    6) On my fast days I start out with a glass of water and an apple. Then I try to skip lunch and eat a small dinner, usually brown rice with turkey meatballs or sardines. I’ll keep oranges in my fridge at my office for severe cravings.

    7) If you fail, don’t give up… keep on trying! Most people don’t succeed the first time, I sure didn’t! And I still have a long way to go! My goal is to lose another 85 pounds! Good luck everyone!

    Hi PhanDaMan,

Sounds like you’re off to a good start this time. I try to use failure as a learning experience; analyze what went wrong and try again.

I wish you great success with your weight loss goals.

Thank you Bronx! I am hopeful that this time will be the time that I make it to my goals!

I’ve never been to Hawaii but would like to get there some day if for no other reason than to see the USS Arizona memorial.
