  • I’m just starting this new eating style; my first fast day will be this coming Tuesday. Could somebody please answer a question? On the fast day should I eat 500 cals because it is a quarter of 2000 cals or should I eat one quarter of my personal TDEE? I’ve hunted in the book and cannot find the answer.

    Hi J and welcome:

Your choice. Most newbies use the 500, but the basic rule is the less you eat the more you lose.

    Good Luck!

There is nothing magical about the number 500 or 1/4 of TDEE. This number was plucked out of thin air and is not based on any science. Its just a number that Michael Moseley thought most people could achieve on their fast days. if you can do zero great, if you need to do 800 great. Whatever works for you. Personally I find zero a lot easier than just eating a little.
