  • Hi there

Just started this week as a new way to try and lose some weight. Usual story – 2 children, full time job, too much time sitting on my bottom during the week, on my feet constantly at the weekends but not much time to really focus on myself, exercise and weight loss eating plans!

My main question is this – how hard and fast is the 500 calorie limit for women? Can I calculate my own from my TDEE? ( I suspect its 500 kcals anyway )

Reason I ask is that I do struggle sticking to the absolute limit of 500 kcals, and would rather go slightly over but still achieve a days fast, than think I cant stick absolutely to the number and not try.

So if I ended up on 600 Kcals on a fast day am I wasting my time even doing it?

Thanks so much and looking forward to joining the success stories very soon.

    BM

The whole idea is to make a deficit of calories. So 600 calories is fine. Make sure that you don’t exceed your TDEE on the other 5 days though!

I miss breakfast, eat a light lunch and then eat the rest in the evening on a fast day. I rather like a tin of leek and potato soup when it is chilly, which comes in at 200 calories. Evening meal might be a fillet of salmon straight from the freezer, spinkle with some chilli flakes and wrap in a salmon parcel for 20 minutes in the oven. I like some peas with it and a sliver of butter-delicious.

My top tip is to cook what you love on a FD and chose the things that family like but you don’t on a FD if you have to cook it. My boys like chilli and I really don’t so that is not difficult.

My mantra is that it is just for 1 day. It does get easier as the weeks go by…and as you see results, that reinforces the FD too.

Hi Annette – thank you for your suggestions and thanks for the confirmation.

I’ve done my first week and really found it quite easy – I’m hoping that’s not just first timer novelty!

At the moment, I prefer a mid morning breakfast, and eat early dinner with the kids at 5.30 – I dont mind going to be hungry! But the 500 Kcal total was a bit daunting.

I agree soup is a great saviour especially at this time of year. Plus as I work full time instead of having to cook twice, I was planning to treat myself to some OMG Pots from Cook, which are delicious and come in at under 400kcals, I have been able to of loads of 200 kcal breakfasts, so with the 600 kcal it feels doable long term. Thats a great tip on cooking things I dont like for the children though – much less temptation to clear their plates or pick while cooking.

I had already embarked on a reduced sugar diet a few weeks ago, and am sticking to 1700 kcals on my other days (est TDEE is 2000) so am hoping that the combination will start to show results soon.
