  • I’m 61 from Plymouth and absolute fed up with myself! I need to shed three stones. I cannot do the slimming club thing, have spent and wasted way too much only to trip myself up. I would love to hear from you and have any advice please. I have had some success in the past but I’m such a diet butterfly. SW then WW then MFP and that’s often all in one week. Please can I have some success stories and motivation.
At least the Gast diet makes sense and doesn’t involve clubs and fees!
    Many thanks!

    Hello,
Information is power. Read the FAQ’s and have a look at the threads, there are loads of them.

Hello Ellie – you’ve come to the right place. No fees, no gimmicks, no forbidden foods, just a set of rules to stick to, plus lots of support from everyone here.

Everyone’s different, and pretty much everyone can make 5:2 work for them, as you can tell by all the tips and tweaks.

One of the things I like most about 5:2 is that it’s very straightforward and for me, has helped me free up my mind to consider why I was eating the way I did, and why I always sabotaged my best efforts. Not easy stuff to consider but very helpful to unpick to make long term changes. Good luck!

I lost 44 pounds (20 kg) over the course of 2016 and have been in maintenance mode since about March. I do 6:1 now.

Success doesn’t chase you, you have to chase success!!

Get rid of sugar in your diet!!!! Limit simple carbs like pasta, rice, bread, potatoes. They are sometimes only “treat” foods. Try and get your carbs from veggies. Limit fruit intake, and always whole fruit, never juice, never desiccated, never in shakes. Fat and protein are OK. Tuna, chicken, tofu, beans and lentils for protein. Cheese and high fat low sugar yogurt, avocados for fats. Nuts like walnuts and almonds are good.

Don’t snack between meals, just like your mum used to preach to you. It keeps your insulin high and that means everything you eat goes to fat storage. Get rid of lollies, biscuits, cakes, ice cream. Limit alcohol consumption to one or two glasses a week. Once again alcohol is processed by the liver and goes straight to fat storage.

It works if you give it a genuine try.

    Good Morning!
Many thanks for all your help
Bigbooty, your advice will become my code to succeed, thank you! The thing is, I’m a bit of a sceptic when you see the glossy pics “How I lost 20 stone on Weight world” but here you are all so genuine and your posts are from a desire to help and share your tips.
Many thanks, I know it’s going to be a bumpy ride, but I love the mantra Sucess doesn’t chase you!

There is a good reason that you should be sceptical about all those too good to be true stories and that’s because they’re usually too good to be true. If you think about it, its not in the best interests of diet companies to have successful dieters. That means they lose customers, not good for business. The beauty of 5:2 is that its free, in fact it saves you money!! The forum is full of genuine people not some PR hype that is being rammed down your throat.

I only lost about 0.7 pounds per week on average so set yourself realistic goals. Personally I think if it comes off slowly your chances of success are a lot higher. I now tend to seek out healthy food options, its not like Im depriving myself, sugary junk doesn’t appeal to me like it used to. That’s not to say I don’t eat the odd piece of cake, I just don’t do it that often.

    Good luck and ask questions.

If you ever watch one of those weight loss infomercials, during the testimonial part where people on the program are showing how much weight they’ve lost and how easy it was, tiny almost impossible to read print on the bottom of the screen says “Results not typical” or something similar.

Wishing you great success with your goals, Elliefant.

Thanks For all the replies, makes me feel at home! I love the phrase “Up to” covers all bases, I could lose up to 10lb this week!
By the way has anything been mentioned about the Military Diet? Was formerly known as the Heart Foundation diet. Involves lots of toast and peanut butter and you can lose “up to”10lb in three days!
