  • I’m new & excited to give the 5:2 a whirl…Has anyone lost a lot of weight? I have seen where most have lost 20-30 lbs. I need to loose about 70…

    Hi and welcome:

Most on this site have lost in the range you mentioned because of time on diet and age of this site. The average weight loss for a woman is a pound a week or less. Many on other sites that have been on the diet for a year or more report losses in the range you are after.

Here are some tips for those just starting 5:2: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/warnings-to-newbies/

    Good Luck!

I’m quite sure I saw that someone reported losing 90 lbs over a year or so, but don’t remember which thread. I’ve seen quite a few with about 50. I hope they will respond to you themselves, but go for it, regardless! Nine-to-twelve months from now, YOU could be the one reporting a 70 lb weight loss!

I’ve lost about 50lb so far. Been doing it since the documentary aired in August 2012. Slow & steady wins the race (and has the additional benefit of being ridiculously easy). 😉

    Welcome Hangnloose 🙂

    TracyJ…!!! o.O that’s awesome, well done! 🙂

Yep – thanks kitsix, it’s not bad sounding all in one go is it. When you break it down it’s 0.7lb per week on average though and when you know that the first 14-18lb fell off in just 8 weeks then you realise that if you’ve a lot to lose, you’re going to have to just accept that this is your new lifestyle, get comfortable with it as a ‘forever’ thing and settle into your new life.

I’m happy with this and I think the really gardual loss is actually very healthy and will help me stick with this for the rest of my life, which I thoroughly intend to do.

Good luck all of you with your journeys

yep – a lot of weight = a long time to lose it. The positive side of that though is that you won’t get loose skin – which losing 50-70 lbs in a short time could definitely do.

I have been on 5:2 for 13 weeks and have lost almost 30 lbs. (my weekly weigh-in is tomorrow so we’ll see then). My goal is to lose another 30-35 and I believe I will get there but I know it will take a while. Since this way of losing weight is easy for me, and I have no problem doing it for the rest of my life, I’m fine with that.

Thanks for the info. I know slow & steady is better but always hope it will happen over night. I’m ready to start my new life style & after all the weight programs I have been through, I think I can actually stick to this one…Loving the forum!!!!

    I want to lose 70lbs.
It is a tough call I know but I really want to get rid of the belly I have lived with all these years.
I weighed in at 18 stone when I first started so I would still be obese at 14 stone, but it would also be slimmer than I have been since I was in my 20s.
I have just completed my sixth fast day and I really believe that it is something I can stick to. I am sure there will be tough times and other occasions where I cave in. But it is a marathon not a sprint.

    Hi all,
I’ve been doing this diet since December now and have lost 2 stone in weight so far. Getting a little frustrated at the moment as things have slowed down a bit. I either stay the same or loose the odd pound – praying i kick back in. I’m wanting to loose another 2 stone at least but was hoping i would loose at least a stone by June ready for a few parties and concerts i will be going. Does anyone have any tips to kick start it again?
Initially i was 17 stone 7 pounds now i weigh 15 stone 6 pounds and my weigh day is tomorrow.
Finding it easier to fast whilst at work with being a busy nurse that works 13 hour shifts. Don’t have the headaches anymore but now and then have noticed on fasting days your breath is not too fresh.

I am new here and have about 65 pounds to lose, so it was heartening to read this thread and see it can be done.

I am in no race. I would rather lose slowly and have firmer skin then lose quickly and look haggard.

So I’m in this for the long haul.

Hiya Woo – You sound very similar to my situation a year and a half ago. I went from dropping 1+ stone in 2 months to dropping maybe 3-4lb for a couple of months to 1lb (admittedly that was over Xmas/New Year month).

I didn’t really know anything about my personal TDEE at the time so I just decided I’d try to be a bit stricter and eat a hundred or so calories under 2000 on non-fastdays as standard. That got me back to 3-4lb losses for a few more months. Then I tweaked the timings of my food on fastdays and non-fastdays (16:8 model) and I eventually tweaked my eating schedule around my swims and now I’ve just massively upped my exercise level (1-2 swims a week to 5 swims a week).

Basically you need to look at what you’re doing objectively and decide where you can tweak something to help make a difference to your weight losses (if the bigger number is important to you). You might still be using the same TDEE calculations you started with? If you are then bang!….that’s you’re problem right there. As you lose significant weight your numbers will change and as you get closer to your goal, you will need to start paying closer attention and/or properly calorie counting (ish) to make sure you are within your TDEE on non-fastdays.

Oh and the ‘bad breath’ is just ketosis. It’s a good thing – means you’re fatburning. You get used to it and although it seems like it should be noticable to everyone it doesn’t seem to be. You’ll notice it but noone will avoid you because of it.

    Good luck

thank you TRACY J i did loose another pound in the end last week. As long as i manage to a pound a week instead of being stagnant all the time that’s fine with me. I shall stick at it and look at what i am doing on the days i am not fasting.I have been walking more of late and trying to get a group of us go swimming too. There are a few girls at work doing this very diet too and some have found having a few weeks off and being sensible has worked for them too and they did not gain any weight on the rest period. It’s all good plenty of options and i will keep plodding on till i reach my goal. Must admit i have noticed loads in my clothes going to be needing a new wardrobe soon a lot are just way too big now. Oooh happy days 🙂 x

I’m brand new to this page and The Fast Diet. I have completed one week (lost 4 lbs). I’ve tried just about every diet imaginable. I’m hoping this is the last one I ever have to try! I would like to lose 87 lbs., so I know it will take a couple years. I’m happy to have found this website and look forward to both encouraging others and being encouraged.
