  • I got a great start on this diet, I lost 5 pounds in the first two weeks. The second two weeks, I gained half of it back. My fasting days are staying very low calorie (except for Fridays when I go out to eat with the family), and I use weight watchers and my fitness pal on non-fasting days so I know I am not bingeing in any way. I see many people to say check measurements, but the truth is, I have to lose weight. I got excited and thought this was a plan for me but not only have a stalled, I’ve gone backward, and it is not because of over-eating. I’m discouraged.

I found the only way was to count calories and not do another plan at the same time. You can’t do Weight Watchers & you need to do some exercise but the most important thing is to eat enough on your non fast days, if you don’t eat enough on those days your body just thinks your starving yourself. Also the longer you fast on the fast days the better.
    Good luck

Weight Watchers and Slimming World do not really ‘fit’ with 5:2. Nor are they designed to. WW and SW use what they call ‘Free Foods’ and some of them are quite calorie dense so unless you actually track the calories you are not really going to know whether you are overeating in 5:2 terms. Trying to fit 2 types of weight loss plans together seldom works I’m afraid.

You say your fasting days are low “except for Fridays when I go out to eat with the family” which suggests that you exceed your 500 calories on that day. Designating a day when you know you will exceed 500 cals as a fasting day isn’t the best thing to do and is setting yourself up for disappointment.

I’d suggest you do EITHER 5:2 or WW but not both and don’t make Friday a fast day.

    Hi and welcome:

You have lost four pounds in four weeks. The average weight loss on 5:2 is a pound a week – women lose a little less. You are right on track.

Here are some tips that might help: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/warnings-to-newbies/

    Good Luck!

whoops, I misspoke. I fast Monday and Thursday and really monitor the other 4 days of the week except for Friday which I try to let myself off the hook a little. Not going crazy but just not worrying.

As far as the other days go, I really feel like i need to journal what I eat on non-fasting days to keep from going over 2,000, and that is where the my fitness pal comes in. I am also trying to eat a healthy, balanced diet as well. I’m glad to see the ebb and flow is normal. Hopefully things will continue to work. I really like the fasting days, they are challenging but I really feel good the next day after them.

    Thanks for the responses!

From what I’ve seen it’s not a straight line down in this way of life (and it’s not a diet you stop at your goal weight, as then you do 6:1).

We’re all a little different too, some people lose weight instantly, and for me it’s been 6 weeks til I lost 0.9kg (and I gained weight in the first 3 which only dropped after 5 weeks & 6 days!!!). But I’m doing it as much for the health benefits that comes with the fasting so I’m sticking to it.

Weight loss is never a straight line. I wish it was but the weekly weight chart I keep on Excel proves that. It’s like a roller coaster ride!

But my general trend over the last 12 months has shown a DOWNWARD journey – 49 lbs downwards – so definitely going in the right direction.

    xx
