  • Hi all

I’ve started the diet this week and today is my first 500 calorie day. I’d love to know how you plan / eat for the 2 days and any top tips 🙂

Ultimately I would like to drop 21lbs but 7lbs by Christmas would be great! Looking forward to a slimmer me

    Hi Lardilass
Welcome and congrats for starting! 🙂
I note you have contributed to another topic – did you look at the other replies there? One suggestion I had made was for any newbie to look at other topics from newbies, as these are likely to have useful info.
Also have a general look around, there are many topics that deal with options for fast days.
Most people chose to do non-consecutive fast days.
Some have 3 small meals, or at least start that way, but with time most people seem to put off the first food for the day for as long as possible. Some just have one meal later in the day.
Drink lots of nice ‘black’ teas, some coffee, water – whatever of those you like.
Keep busy; use the forum for inspiration.
There are topics that give recipe ideas for fast days – have you bought the recipe book?
Find foods that you will enjoy or that suit you for fast days. Ideally eat just protein and lots of veggies, with seasonings and other no-cal flavourings. Soups, no-fat stir fries can be good.
Very best wishes for losing 7 lbs by Christmas – it is possible! – and continued loss next year.
Use the forum as one source of support to get you there 🙂
    Good luck!
    Sassy

    Hi Sassy,

Thanks for replying 🙂 I am having a good nose round the site now and have ordered the diet and recipe books from Amazon which should be here tomorrow.

I’m going to try and make the 500 calorie days carb free and am going to try cauliflower ‘rice’ for the first time later! I’m hoping to fill up today with herbal tea and fizzy water. I assume zero calorie fizzy drinks are ok?

Am off to the supermarket later so any top tips for purchases gratefully received.

10:09 and feeling a ‘buzz’ at the moment, but that could just be the start of a headache 😉

    Lardi

Hello Lass, I wont call you Lardi because if you stick with this eating style there will be no lardiness about you!
I keep my fast day meals simple and quick to prepare.
oat porridge with cinnamon and skim milk in the morning.
50g smoked salmon and a variety of steamed greens in the evening.
I keep it the same, I find the routine helps.
Water, black tea and herbals are great during the day.
I did try a green tea fast day but broke out in hives!!
Good Luck, in no time you will gain confidence and start to enjoy your fast days.

Hi Lardilass – you won’t be calling yourself that for much longer if you follow the plan!

I agree with Sassy, keep yourself busy and look at the newbie topics.

I tend to keep my fasting days to a portion of protein and veg in the evening. Too many starchy carbs and I’d go nuts. I’d steer clear of the fizzy drinks. Despite their zero calories, I think I read somewhere that they still give you an insulin spike as the body believes it’s having something sweet even though it’s not.

Good luck and keep us posted.

    Ali 🙂

    Hi Freefalling and Ali

I certainly deserve the Lardi tag at the moment but am looking forward to being able to drop it 🙂

Thanks for the fizzy drink tip – I will steer clear for the first few weeks and stick to fizzy water and a slice of lemon.

I’ve had a cup of tea with skimmed milk this morning, I’m going to have a scrambled egg (no fat), 6 grilled cherry tomatoes and a grilled flat mushroom for brunch and then chicken thigh cooked in tomatoes, onion, green pepper and chilli with cauliflower ‘rice’ as an early supper (have an exercise class tonight – Tuesday won’t usually be a fast day but due to a work commitment yesterday I couldn’t start and didn’t want yet another week to go by!) I’ve also factored in a Minestrone slim a soup for after my class in case I need it. It all comes in at 514 calories according to MyFitnessPal calorie counter.

    Does that sound OK?

    Lardi xx

Hi Lass (keeping the trend going!!)

I have just started too, on week three! I am actually writing my recipes on my blog, hopefully others will do the same so that we can share them all and get some good ideas together. Hopefully it will give you some good ideas!!!!

    Good luck!!!

    meg xx

Thanks Meg, I will take a look through.

Must admit I am quite peckish now so off out to by my food for today

Hey lass, how’d it go? And don’t be put off if you get hungry on the first day, it happens to everyone. Every fast day you succesfully complete it gets easier and easier!

I, like others here, only eat one meal on a fast day. I also, unlike other here, only eat one meal on non-fast days. I’m a bit weird. But I can certainly say that fasting gets a lot easier with time! I’m at the moment also quite lardy still but looking forward to just being a lass like you 😉

Day 1. Saving my calories for when I get hungry.
I’m a coffee person but don’t know how it will taste without my usual sugar. That’s the only time I allow myself sugar – with coffee! I’ll have as many herbal teas as I can today. Will keep you posted!!!

Start a new thread pritisis. I’ve just read all through this post for nothing.

hey any ideas for the day meals for the 500 i need to a weekly plan but i dont know how to start it offl.

    Hi All,
Good to see Im not alone…..This is my second week on the 5.2. My first week I lost 1.8 kilos then put approx half back on. Now Im a little bit more than 2.5 from my starting weight. I realise this is not a short term diet and an actual lifestyle change.
My first day of fasting was difficult but nothing to my second day. However I feel I would rather get the fasting over and done with and then back to almost normal eating. I hope to get down to 70k from my starting weight of 77k I am 168cm tall ( Small )
Today is my second day of fasting and Im handling it a little bit better than last week.I drink alcohol red wine mostly…..Too Much probably but its my only vice.
So my week looks like this
    Mon,Tues……..Normal eating habits
    Wed, Thur…….Fasting only water
    Fri, Sat, Sun…Normal eating habits
Would appreciate hearing from anybody else who has fasted just on water.

    Hi Lass!

Yesterday was my first day of fasting. I did it on the spur of the moment, so I still need to shop for proper food. I had oatmeal and an apple about 11am, and confess to cheating during the day with 2 cherry tomatoes and a lettuce leaf. I had a salad and a can of soup at 7 pm. I drank tea with no sugar during the day.

This morning I feel great- I have to keep reminding myself that I can eat WHAT I WANT. I think I will think more about what I put into my mouth in general.
I can’t wait until next week, when I have had 2 more fast days, and maybe will see some results!

    You can DO IT!!

Hi all on this post – I’ve noticed that this was a few years ago and keen to hear how it all worked out and how much did you lose ?

    Hi Apple and welcome:

Answers you your question are scattered all over this site. The highest I’ve seen posted is over 100 pounds lost on 5:2 (on another site). Many on this site report losing 40 or more pounds.

Here are some tips on how 5:2 works: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!
