Hi all, just joined.
Looking to lose about a stone and a half – I already exercise quite a lot – running in the gym and outside, is it ok to do this on a fasting day?

I am still waiting for the fast exercise book to finally arrive and to see what Michael’s research shows.
I do not believe light exercise is a problem, but I think that hard workouts can be. Losing weight is stressful on your body and for building muscle you need “fuel”. If you starve your body AND workout then how should the body be able to repair itself?
It is very hard to find research that tells you dieting AND working out is good for you. As said though, light exercise should not be a problem.
Stef.
I have a fairly strenuous day on a Thursday and have suffered no ill effects by fasting on that day. Not sure the fast exercise book goes into the links between fasting and exercise. I’ve just read it and nothing jumped out,it’s more to do with long slow versus short fast (HIT) but I could be wrong. I did read once that running first thing in the morning before breakfast was beneficial because it tapped into fat stores because the glycogen was depleted overnight.
Anyway,I’m no expert,but I know what’s worked for me.
what about exercising the day after a fast day? i have found intense exercise a day after fasting leaves me feeling like I just got hit by a truck. i perform much worse and take days to recover, when usually a 20 min sit / lie down afterwards would have been sufficient. intense exercise on fast days has been better than normal however. by intense, i mean repeatedly hitting your max heart rate for an hour doing stuff like circuit training.
wow yeah no I dont think I would go for the high intensity training whilst on or just after a fast day. You probably would lose weight a lot quicker but from experience i have felt exhausted from doing that. Brisk walk or a steady jog I was thinking, just to raise the heart rate for 30-40 minutes 🙂
