Morning all, still a little frustrated at where I am at but also appreciating that it could be a lot worse… I’m maintaining but in the wrong range 😂

Need to get going here so not much chat but hoping we have some weekend warriors. I’m out again tonight but will make good choices and will lay off the non alcoholic sugary cocktails 🍹

    Have a lovely day everyone!

    Day 14-No. VA USA-FD800
Well, my weight is stable in a low range from my unfortunate gastroenteritis of the other day, so I am sticking to very small amounts of food and lots of electrolyte drinks (which are pretty low calorie in the “Gator Lyte” brand). So far, so good.
I am going to make some pierogi and freeze them for Christmas. I will use a recipe my mother-in-law used. So, memories for my husband. They are a lot of fiddly work, but not hard. It is easier to do when you have a group of helpers, but “needs must” as the Brits would say! At least there is nothing particularly tempting to taste while making them.
@funshipfreddie, you should have a productive day of mosaic work, without too much distraction. Still waiting for the design of Boo-Boo. @jaifaim, you are hanging on the wagon, that is what counts! @stitchincarol, enjoy your new mixer! I just realized the other day that I got mine as a Christmas present when my kids were in middle school, and they are 40 and 41 now. I hope I don’t start to hear gears grinding anytime soon! It has been a workhorse. Mine is functional white; is yours a clever new color?
Also, rather annoyed to report that neighbors had bears around the other night. Apparently the bear(s) smashed a box of wine bottles they had on their porch. Drunken “porch pirates” from @ccco‘s neighborhood!!!

    Best of luck to all!

    Day 14 – USA/GA – NFD

Weigh-in: 234 lbs. Woah that little gathering had a lot more than snacks… it was a true all out brunch with extras. Anyway, up another pound. I’ll likely make tomorrow a FD. The next two weeks are going to be really messed up as far as eating, but I’m resolved to resist incessant snacking.

    Day 14 – Rural Nebraska, USA – FD800 – 154.8

DH and I got 20 miles south last night as we headed to the Seward vocal jazz concert and then to the Lincoln basketball game, and I reminded him of when I was due with our youngest and we’d been at a wedding, and I said “Let’s not go to the reception.” He was surprised–I NEVER willingly pass on a fun evening–but agreed, and I went into labor two hours later and gave birth that night. Nope, not pregnant now, but in that very rare spirit, I asked him to turn around and head back home. Moisture was coming down, the temperature was dropping quickly, and we already had ice on the windshield where the wipers didn’t touch. Best decision possible. On the news later, a reporter talked about how he and other cars were going only 10mph and even so, when he braked, he simply slid sideways. WHEW! It’s a shiny world out there this morning with all the ice on the ground, and there’s still moisture coming down and it’s a degree below freezing so it’s not going to thaw/melt any time soon. Good excuse to enjoy my coffee, Christmas music, and knitting in my warm and cozy home.

@missybear VERY impressive RESOLVE you’re showing, and a very sensible plan as well; I’m excited to hear what your month’s loss is when we get to the end of December. And if it’s not a loss because you allow yourself greater freedom right around Christmas Eve/Day, then I’m sure it won’t be a gain given your stellar behavior right now.

@funshipfreddie Have fun getting loads accomplished on your big pot!

@jaifaim I certainly understand the frustration that you’re not quite accomplishing a 2-3 lb loss, but I’m also certain all the heavier people around you are simply envious how beautifully thin you are, and no one else will ever know that 2-3 lb difference between where you are and where you prefer to be. So hold on to the joy of being so very close and to the pride of knowing what you’ve done to accomplish that and to the confidence that you WILL eventually get down where you want to be. ❤️💪

@excelsior12309 What a great thing to make, given it’s not tempting to nibble at it, LOL! I have two batches of cookies on my agenda today…it will not be as easy for me! My first KitchenAid was royal blue, and about twenty years later, I bought my sister’s emerald green one because it was bigger and stronger, and it’s the one that’s not working all that well; DS28 has my original blue one, LOL! They do last forever, huh? My new one is red, the color I wished almost immediately I’d chosen instead of blue all those years ago, so I’m finally smiling at the red every time I look at it. And how lovely that you’re not flying back up on the scale; a tough way to lose weight, but one has to celebrate the results if not the process.

@northgeorgia Just remember that there a super thin people who commonly say no to food where–I think–you feel obliged to say yes. Perhaps you need to get close to them at these parties, and eat only what they eat. 🤣 I’ve actually done that in the past, and used the line, “I’m enjoying visiting so much, I don’t want to be busy chewing so I don’t get to chat with as many friends!” Well, okay, I haven’t–but it’s a line worth trying, don’t you think? 😏😂❤️👍💪

I sat on the sofa yesterday and in the space of 45 minutes bought all the rest of my Christmas presents for people. It felt glorious to be done with that, and to feel as if I’d made great choices. And I ran errands yesterday and got a lot of piddly things taken care of, and am pleased every time I get to cross something off my list. so I’d best quit chattering and get to work again on that list!

    Have a grand one, everyone!

Good day, FUNSHIPFREDDIE! Looks like everyone is out Christmas partying! 😊
I hope your day is going well and you enjoyed your mosaic class.

I complained about my weight gain yesterday but today I am two pounds down. I think yesterday’s gain was water retention. I have been attempting to rid myself of salt, no easy task for me. I love salt but I am getting there. I already rid myself of sugar and white flour some years ago.

    Well, here’s to another FD!

    Day 14 NE England NFD

Scale is steady so I’m happy with that under the current circumstances. Had a mince pie today at a children’s Christmas party and enjoyed every crumb! It was my Granddaughters first dance show, age 2, she did so well! We are all very proud as we expected stage fright.
Got to be restrained for the next few days before our Christmas party on Thursday evening. I will have turkey and all the trimmings and a little bit of Christmas pudding, then another period of restrained behaviour before the big day!

    USA. Day 14. FD

Iona72, I love that your 2 year old granddaughter had her first dance recital. My granddaughter just turned 3 a couple of days ago and loves dancing. I know my daughter has had her in dance classes because I have photos of it but I don’t think she ever had a recital. I think that would be fun to see. Glad you are enjoying your Christmas festivities. My family keeps getting sick, so we are constantly cancelling things. I hope everyone is well for Christmas dinner because I am cooking it! 😊

    Day 15 NZ NFD 69.2kg 🚴‍♀️

Greetings all! Apologies for my absence ( not abstinence🤣).
I lost a big post because it timed out…
I have been getting out of the house first thing because the temps are rising… although not hot enough to not eat!!! I’ve been on train trips and a ferry trip across the harbour and generally having fun. There were two enormous cruise ships parked up disgorging huge quantities of people into the downtown.
I’m aiming for a no gain Dodgy December and am hanging in there… At the moment I have my feet up and am watching the England NZ cricket test on TV. Summer is truely here!!
I have just caught up on everybody’s posts. Some hilarious stories abound – the return of the Bears who were Christmas soccer hooligans, the throwaway hubcap etc.
@stitchincarol I looked admiringly at KitchenAid mixers for some years and it was the candy apple red (car) paint that got me over the line! It’s luscious!!
Lovely that @jaifaim’s Gaelic phrases are being collected by @ccco. My father’s family come from the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides where Gaelic is spoken.
I watched a fab doco on YouTube called Christian Dior in Scotland. It followed the preparation of their 2024 collection based on Mary Queen of Scots and was presented in the grounds of Drummond Castle. Mr Dior’s last presented a collection in the 1950svto high society at Gleneagles. If you like weaving, history, haute couture, the Scottish Borders and the Outer Hebrides, I’m sure you will enjoy it!!
Next week will be a big week because that’s when I do my Christmas shopping!!
I’ve just had dinner – pork and pearl barley risotto with asparagus.
    FD tomorrow😬

    Day 15 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – FD

A Saturday pocket list?! Well done fellow fasters 🥇

@ccco, @stitchincarol – I did get a lot done at the class. But I always take a picture before I leave, & I’m not thrilled with what I did. So I’ll be undoing some of my work on Tuesday. I’ll be bringing the pot home then anyway as it’s the last class of the year. But I can finish it at home.

@ccco – you’re having a LOT of fast days, you should be like a bean pole by now 😅

I watched this last night. Dr Chris van Tulleken’s 1 hour BBC documentary from a few days ago. ‘Irresistible: Why we can’t stop eating’
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gGZqm5dnmc&list=WL&index=157 Worth watching, but I imagine it won’t be on YouTube for long.

@jaifaim – I’m curious. Is this what really happens when Americans visit Ireland? 🤣
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzlMME_sekI

It will be our usual card game this afternoon. One of my card buddies was telling me he’s been diagnosed ‘pre-diabetic’. So it’ll be interesting to see if he avoids all the junk food when it appears. He’s in good shape for 79, & walks a lot with his dog. But he loves cooking & eating, & although he hasn’t said so, I’m sure he thinks fasting is a symptom of insanity 😅

    Happy Sunday! ⛅️🌈

    Day 15 UK NFD

Had a very busy few days and going out for lunch with old friends shortly so looking forward to a reset FD tomorrow and a couple of quiet days

    Day 15 – USA/GA – FD

Weigh-in: 233 lbs. This is four weeks of no post-NFD Saturday gains on Sunday morning. In fact, three out of four have been losses. Good sign!

@stitchincarol Unfortunately, everyone at my table were a bunch of people who already went through a major weight loss journey or are in the midst of one, and it didn’t have much effect. I think the other tables were worse LOL! Still, in the end, I weigh the same today as I did before I went to the event that morning, so I guess I didn’t pig out the last couple of days as much as I imagined.

I’m planning a B2B FD today and tomorrow, but you know how this time of year goes. I’m excited to be entering the low 230s zone and am getting super motivated for the new year.

    USA. Day 15. CD

I would have been responding to posts earlier but I got engrossed in the YouTube video that Funshipfreddie sent us. It was excellent! I thank him for that!

Yes, like Funshipfreddie said, with all those FDs, I should be a bean pole by now. However, since I have had my grandchildren over fairly frequently, I have bought snacks for them. Guess what I am doing when they are not here?? I am working on that.

Merryapple, I am enjoying the Gaelic. My grandparents were fluent in it but only shared a little with us. The YouTube video you mentioned sounds fun. I like to look at fashion. No gain for December is a good goal for the holiday season!
Also, I am glad to see you have been able to get out and about but I am jealous of your warming weather. It’s freezing here!🥶

I am holding in my fast today. Still haven’t eaten anything but had black coffee and water, so far!

Hope everyone has been enjoying their weekends! 👍🏻

    Day 16 NZ FD 69.2kg 🏃🏼‍♀️☔️

We had a v wet dog walking this morning. The top half of the country’s rain came in accompanied by thunderstorms from the tropical ocean (warm and wet) and the bottom half had cold rain from the Southern Ocean…
I am doing hand exercises, which includes knitting and bicycling, to get my hand, wrist and forearm moving. It’s v stiff but improving. Every week I can bend (flex and extend) 5 degrees further…✊✋🫷🫲🫱🤌 I’m not waiting for clearance from the doctors as my next appointment is in January and it would be completely frozen like a mannequin’s hand…😬 I had no idea 12 weeks of immobility would create such problems…
@ccco How about some healthy treats that you and your grandchildren can share??!!
@northgeorgia Great to read of your new found 💪
@jaifaim It’s all about great food. No point in eating crappola😅
    @brightonbelle I’m joining you on the reset😄

    Day 16 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD 70.5 kgs

My FD went splendidly. And despite last week’s splurges, I weigh exactly the same as a week ago, so I’m happy 😇
It’s a public holiday today, Day of Reconciliation. Nine days before Christmas? Half the country is already on holiday anyway! And the other half is either retired or unemployed 🤔

@ccco – I’m glad you liked the video. These big food companies are just as bad, if not worse than the cigarette companies ever were. Dr Van Tulleken has written a best-selling book too, ‘Ultra-Processed People’, but I haven’t read it yet. Ditto what @merryapple said about healthy snacks for your grand-kids. Children love fruit, & although it still contains sugar, it’s not so easy to overeat it.

Half-way through Dodgy December! Sending steely RESOLVE to the Monday fasters 💪

Good morning everyone! Well done to the warriors! I didn’t fast but I was one 🏹👍

I had a lovely morning with friends and then did exactly as planned and relaxed for the afternoon. I didn’t get to read the posts though so have just caught up.

I had a minor win though or a major one in my eyes…:

Not one crisp (potato chip) passed my lips this weekend. I am prouder of this than abstaining from any alcohol as I find the lure of crispy, salty snacks stronger than any other… usually if I expend a lot of energy I’ll allow myself salty high calorific snacks and justify it by thinking my body needs the sodium. 😊

😂😂 @funshipfreddie yes that’s 💯 it 😂😂😂 pure comedy!! It gave me a great laugh this morning … we were so well received in the USA earlier this year and met so many with Irish ancestry – the diaspora is truly alive and well 💚💚 Slainsh 🫣😂🫣 🥂

or Sláinte as we say… (slawnsha) 😂😂😂

I started the longer video but will finish looking at it this evening – so interesting! I stay away from most UPFs these days… And @merryapple crapola it is!!!

I have lined up the Dior documentary also… maybe Christmas viewing.. I have always wanted to get out to the Isle of Lewis so maybe in the next few years I will. It sounds like you have had a lovely few days tripping around the city in the heat 😁 although the weather sounds crazy! Well done to you on keeping up with your exercises and activities!!! The doctors will be impressed with you I am sure! 👏 It has been a long old road for you 💕

@ccco bravo to you!!! Salt is a real problem for so many things as we age… I saw my colleague literally showering her meal (already salty) last week I wanted to hop over the table to stop her… but I didn’t…😂

@stitchincarol thanks for those motivational words… you are right 😊 no one around me could guess my weight and I do look well at the moment but it’s just a teeny weeny bit annoying when you know you are passing up lots of bad choices and not seeing success BUT I know deep down that my body and brain are thanking me ♥️ Wow!!! Your account of your car trip back then and this weekend makes me think you have a sixth sense but also that you have a lovely hubby who knows when to go with your flow ♥️♥️ I’m trying yo take care of all those piddly things today…and thought I had bought more than enough Christmas cards but turns out I need more now.. 🤨

@brightonbelle I hope you get to relax after your busy time and that your FIL is well. 💕

    Good going @northgeorgia ⬇️

Hey @iona72 well done on maintaining 👏 and isn’t it lovely to just have a taste of all these treats without overdoing it? That’s the key 🎄 and you can really enjoy your party on Thursday knowing you’ve put the work in in the lead up.

    Day 16 – USA/GA – FD

Weigh-in: 231 lbs. Here’s to another planned FD800. Last night, I sauteed onions in butter, added some celery leaves and garlic, then put in some frozen, previously cooked, cubed pork tenderloin alongside crushed tomatoes with basil, half a can of canned vegetables, a small can of canned mushrooms, and half a quart of beef broth, with some thyme, pepper, and garlic powder. Yeah, it’s better to have fresh or frozen veggies instead, but I want to get into the habit of “making my own” instead of buying up prepackaged soups. I find doing so makes about six servings, give or take, and though I’m sure higher in calories than my usual 500 calorie count, I always seem to lose weight and psychologically stay satisfied into the next FD. The soup is good, but not great — but the constant change up of what proteins, vegetables, and stock is used keeps my whiny subconscious constantly guessing.

    Day 16 North Wales FD

Just got back from a wonderful 10 days with the family. Unfortunately I did eat and drink too much so I really do need to try hard this week to reset. I have got a lot of posts to catch up on here. I will do my best.
We were so lucky to miss the really high winds being as we were in the Midlands although we came back to yet another tree which had fallen on to of our chicken run. Luckily we do not have too much damage and the Chickens were not traumatised.

@funshipfreddie your power outages must be getting so annoying. Hope they stop soon. My ex husband worked for Eskom when we lived in SA. Glad your rule breaking did not result in a massive weight gain.

@jaifaim brilliant to hear you are knocking on the maintenance door. I liked your description of the word Darragh. Well done resisting crisps. Salty snack avoidance is something I struggle with.

@missybear you are doing so well. I really need to get into the zone and do better. When we first moved to Wales we had a lot of trouble with the post. SAT NAV always sent delivery drivers up the wrong lane. Things have improved recently.

@stitchincarol happy belated birthday 🎂 Your Christmas concert sounded lovely. I have just come back from the supermarket where local children were singing carols in the foyer. They were wonderful.

    @songbirdme brilliant weight loss.

@merryapple your story about the Weta made be laugh. So glad you found it. It reminded me of when my mother in law came to visit us in South Africa and she complained about a chirping in her room. She freaked out when I told her it was a cricket she could hear. The crickets in SA are huge compared to the ones we get in the UK. Brilliant news about your nephew getting into Nedical school. Glad your hand exercises are helping.

@at hope all of your decorating is finished.

@ccco loved your story about porch pirates 😂

@excelsior12309 hope you are feeling better. Gastroenteritis is not nice.

@iona72 glad your scale is steady. I love watching the grandchildren in their classes be it dancing, football, gymnastics, swimming or their Christmas Nativity.

    Day 16 – Rural Nebraska, USA – FD800 – 159.2

That weight is a result of thinking I could rest on my “laurels”…turns out my laurels of restraint are not so very strong! Sunday was the extended family Christmas (DH’s family, since mine is mostly in California), and it was a race to do all my church stuff and then get home to cook the already-marinated pork tenderloin and wrap two presents for the exchange and then be on our way–whew, LOL! There were 39 of us, and 16 of them were children, most of them under the age of 10, and the announcement that one of the neices is pregnant with her first–what a fun time it was. I had a reasonable meal, but way too much wine and dessert, and then thought I ought to eat more when we got home, so that explains the hideous weight this morning and the decision for a FD800. It is also likely responsible for the four hours I was awake in the night, but I knitted and made some solid progress, and then went back to bed for another four hours of sleep, giving me a total of eight, so I’m not feeling in need of any sympathy, LOL. But I AM feeling in need of additional hours in this day because my to-do list is very long, so this is my chatter.

    Have a grand one, everyone!

    Day 17 NZ NFD 68.4kg 🏃🏼‍♀️

I walked up Mt Eden on my own today which meant I could concentrate on waving my arms around with the UFC 1 kg weights on my wrist.

There has been a 7.3 earthquake in Vanuatu at a depth of 57km which is shallow. The epicentre was close to the downtown and city buildings have pancaked, including the newly built American Embassy… Our defence force is on standby to go there. The thing about earthquakes is that there is never just one. Christchurch had more than 3,000 aftershocks…

NZ trashed England in the last cricket test. England won the first two so they have won the series👏

@jaifaim I never thought of using chippies / crisps as a source of salt replacement 🤣 until now😬
@stitchincarol A good controlled day will mean you drop back to your new range so Kia Kaha!! (stay strong)
@molij Welcome back home!! Lovely to hear you’ve had a great time with your family. I’m sure a lean week leading up to the 25th will correct any rises!!
@funshipfreddie Great to hear you’re back on track!! I can feel the PFDS glow from here!!
I’ve got to disappear out to the Guild Christmas party now.

    Remember quality NOT quantity!!!!

    Day 17 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

    @merryapple – December goal reached?!! Now to stay there 👏 🎯 🥇

@molij – no more power outages recently. Interesting that your DH worked for Eskom. That’s half the problem here now though, in many government depts; so many people in jobs they aren’t qualified for. All aboard the gravy train. Those crickets – they call them ‘Parktown Prawns. Or African king crickets. Truly revolting creatures! One appeared in my bathroom years ago when I lived in Johannesburg. It was sat in the tub, looking around like it was mentally remodelling the place & not planning on leaving anytime soon. So I got the caretaker to shift it. It took her about 10 seconds. I felt like such a wuss 🤣

😁 in my most optimistic of moods I thought I’d see a super whoosh this morning 🫣 even though I’ve never worked out what causes a whoosh for me… but with a controlled weekend and a great FD yesterday and increased exercise over the past week or so I thought it might be so… but nope.. still here hovering.. but happy that I’m in the 155s. Today will not be a usual mid week CD as I’m having a nice breakfast (protein only) but then off to a cafe mid morning which does yummy GF cakes. So there you go! Kia Kaha 💪 as you say… I love it.

    Day 17-No. VA USA-FD 800
Wow! Everyone sounds so busy. My weight is steady from the other day, so OK, as I did a lot of carbs yesterday and the day before.
@stitchincarol, your get-together with family sounds epic. I imagine all those young children and holiday festivities must have been fun but also controlled chaos, as they say. For me, it would have been a “busman’s holiday”! I did not come from a big family, but my husband’s family get-togethers at Christmas were large and noisy and fun.
@funshipfreddie, I hope we shall see some impressive work from your last class! Also, I am distressed about the idea of a prawn-sized cricket…I don’t mind beetles, which are pretty slow, but crickets and their cousins the roaches move too fast for me!
@molij, it sounds as if you had a wonderful visit, and not too much weight damage done!
@merryapple, you are remarkably cavalier about the earthquake and aftershocks!!! But I guess you don’t have much choice when you live where you live. The price of the stunning beauty of the islands. Hope your hand mobility and strength is increasing steadily.
@northgeorgia, your weight is slowly dropping! Try adding a spoonful of “soup base” to the broth. It comes in many flavors and adds some really good concentrated taste to soups. (Available in the canned soup aisle of your local grocery store!)
@missybear, staying out of the kitchen is hard to do this time of year. Good you are busy.
@jaifaim, keep the momentum. Your holding steady, with all your activities, is inspiring.
    Happy day to all!

    Day 17 – USA/GA – NFD

Weigh-in: 229 lbs! Last time I weighed this was my birthday this past summer. Now, the reality is the holiday season is about to set in, so I am well aware it could be the last I see of the 220s this year and I was really just expecting to maintain weight through the entire month of December. However, I also didn’t expect to actually hit the 220s at all this month either, so … wow!

For those of you struggling, don’t worry, it’s the holidays — just remember not every single minute of every day is a celebration of mindless stuffing of treats, only certain moments are 🙂 I think it’s OK to celebrate; we are human and we have our cultural festivities! It just doesn’t have to be a three or four week non-stop munchathon.

@merryapple I hadn’t heard about the earthquake. I heard so far there is one confirmed fatality and many more injured. I hope the aftershocks will be very mild in the area.

    2nd Post – Day 17

    Day 17 – Rural Nebraska, USA – WFD – 156.4

Yup, one behaved day yesterday got me back down to a better weight. I’m not celebrating it as excellent, but it’s acceptable, and today should dispatch more of it.

Another busy day, with a single batch of Date Nut Swirls FINALLY made and put in the freezer to slice and bake as needed, and it’s only 9:30am. It’s been a decade or two since I only made a single batch, so I’m proud of the restraint I forced on myself.

@northgeorgia How glorious to have hit 229–I’m sure you’re thoroughly chuffed even though you understand it won’t last once you eat anything. But STILL! Well, well done.

Have I said my 81yo sister is coming on Thursday and staying until December 30? It will be lovely but adds its own level of stress to have someone here, and to need to cook a real supper every night for those 11 days. So today I not only have piano lessons, but intense grocery shopping, and the final pick up of Christmas gifts that have arrived at the various stores, as well as a few returns already…LOL, ’tis the season, eh?

So sorry I can’t chatter more; once Nadine arrives, it may be simpler for me…or may not, LOL!

    Have a grand one, everyone!

    Day 17 North Wales NFD

Good fast day yesterday. Thought I might have found it difficult. Managed to fast until 12.30pm today. It went down hill a bit after that. I decided that today I would tell our neighbours and a few close friends that live nearby that we would be putting the house up for sale mid January. Lots of tears, coffee and cake and now I am sitting with my feet up drinking a glass of sherry watching the Grinch. I only ever drink sherry at Christmas. 😂

@funshipfreddie never heard of the crickets being called Parktown Prawns. I do remember Dooming them. They are not nice creatures so I understand your reluctance to move them. I lived in Witbank and Melkbostrand. I worked in the hospital in Witbank and at the Red Cross Children’s hospital in Cape Town when we lived there.

@jaifaim sorry you didn’t get a woosh but glad you are in the 155’s

@northgeorgia well done on your weight loss 💪💪💪💪.

I ate lots of vegetables and a punnet of strawberries y’day as well as cheese, a venison sausage and a slice of sourdough… Not too bad despite the scales pinging up. Oh and a small Christmas mince pie. When you write it down it seems to exceed 500 cals🤣

Apologies – my area is the Pacific Ocean and I didn’t think that you might not know about Vanuatu. It’s an island archipelago (about 80) in the Pacific Ocean north east of Australia. The locals are Melanesian and Port Vila is the capital, where the earthquake hit. 14 are reported dead at this stage.
@excelsior12309 We do get lots of earthquakes but fortunately not this one!
    https://www.geonet.org.nz/earthquake
The San Andreas fault line in California moves 5cm per year. The problem occurs when it’s unable to move and the pressure builds😬

@molij Love to hear you’re having a Christmas sherry. If I could I would join you!!!
@northgeorgia Fantastic you have made it into the decade below!!
@stitchincarol You are always putting cookie dough in the freezer. It’s not a habit I’m familiar with!! I’ll make shortbread in a mold for Hogmanay and put it in the fridge before tipping it out onto a baking tray or a cheese cake base in there.
You might find your sister doesn’t eat as much as you think and will enjoy a simple supper??? Enjoy her stay!!
@funshipfreddie We have a cricket which hopped over from Oz and is a very noisy pest. The grubs eat the roots of grass etc. If they get into the house by jumping on a passerby they make a helluva racket esp at night but go quiet when you’re trying to track them down…

    Remember quality not quantity!!

    Day 18 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

It would’ve been my dad’s 82nd birthday today. My aunt in Auckland took flowers to the cemetery in Mangawhai where both my parents are buried, as she does every year. I can’t believe it’s nearly 8 years since he died. And almost 20 years since I lost my mum! She died just days after that terrible Tsunami on Boxing Day, 2004.

@molij – I’ve visited Cape Town a few times, though I don’t think I’ve ever been to Witbank. I love Cape Town, although I prefer the climate where I live now. Have you decided where you’ll move to once you’ve sold up? Goodbyes are never easy. I remember you saying you want to move closer to your children & grandchildren. Are they in England?

@stitchincarol – I don’t recall anyone offering to host January yet, so thank you! 🙏 If December is the toughest month, I guess January must be the easiest, because we’ll all be full of resolve & raring to go! 🏃

@merryapple – our ‘Parktown Prawns’ are related to the New Zealand tree wētã, according to Wikipedia. Luckily we don’t get them this far south. Even the regular little crickets can make a racket if they get indoors, though I quite like hearing their chirping at night, from a distance 😅

It’s our last line-dancing session of 2024 today. Then right after, we’re all off to Doppio Zero, a ‘Mediterranean inspired’ restaurant just a couple of km away. But I will be on my best behaviour. And back on the list tomorrow 😇

    Happy Hump Day! 🐫

    154.9 🥳

Well I am very happy to be back in my maintenance zone… 🥳 I am tempted to say “for however long it lasts” but… I’m
not going to… I have had a mindset shift in the past few weeks and although I might pop out of this newly revisited range on the coming weeks because of one dinner, one choice, or one day… this is where I will be in 2025 if you are looking for me 😂😂

The aim is to go lower and for this to be the high end of my maintenance.

I ate well but as planned yesterday and other than the GF small cake there were very little carbs.

@excelsior12309 thanks! I’m hoping the control is paying off.. I hope you are looking forward to a very well earned holiday break 🎄? did you manage to sort out your staffing issues from earlier this year? I hope so 🤞

@merryapple I realised after my post that I hadn’t read your post properly on my morning rush… I’ve read about Vanuatu before as I’m a little obsessed with islands 😂 So terrible for such a beautiful place. Yes.. your food read as more than 500 😂😂😂

@funshipfreddie wow your parents are both buried in NZ? You were a well travelled family? It must be in your blood. Thinking of you today on your dad’s birthday. 🥰 btw.. I hope that you are well as you posted a while ago that you were working through some stuff so as I wrote my intro above regarding mindset shift I thought of you. 💕

@molij it must be bittersweet to think about leaving a place you have loved living while knowing that it makes so much sense … you will always have it to go back to ♥️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 ♥️ I felt that leaving France but I’ve never regretted the move and love skipping back from time to time (ok lots 😂😂😂)

@ccco I hope your WFD went well and maybe have some soup or a broth with your medication?

@stitchincarol we are around the same numbers now…⭐️ How lovely to have your sister visiting but I know it will be tricky… I’ll be on the move a lot over the holidays so that will be a challenge but Kia Kaha as @merryapple says..

@northgeorgia well done on reaching the 220s 💪

Ok.. I’ve just lost some text on my phone.. grrr..

Have a lovely day all… I’ll be back on the pocket list tomorrow 💯

    Day 18 UK NFD

Well done to all that are managing the festive season better than I am , currently on a train for our annual trip to London for a Pantomime and dinner out , will try and squeeze in a CD if not a FD soon

    Day 18 – USA/GA – ZBC

Weigh-in: 233 lbs. It’s an iffy next two days, so I can’t make promises I cannot keep. However, this could turn into a FD or OMAD or something, so, starting out with a ZBC 🙂

    Day 18 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 NFD

Maybe it’s the short days, less daylight, making me feel like the days are whizzing by. There also seems to be a general air of things must be done this week before Christmas, bit crazy really because things only shut down for a couple of days.

@molij sipping a sherry sounds so cosy and Christmassy. I’m looking forward to breaking the seal on the Baileys but doing my utmost to hold on until Christmas Eve.

@funshipfreddie you made me realise that I am fortunate to still have my dad who will be celebrating his 88th birthday on Monday.

@jaifaim congratulations on being back in your maintenance zone!

Have a good day everyone 🤗

    Day 18 – Rural Nebraska, USA – CD – 153.4

I’m thankful for that six pound drop from Monday–I was fairly certain the ugly weight wouldn’t last, but I’ve thought that before and been tricked, LOL! I’m not actually losing weight in December, but not gaining is an achievement all on its own, and I’m ten pounds down from last summer, so there’s plenty to be pleased about. The additional twenty I want to lose will eventually disappear.

@molij Nicely done on getting right back into fasting after ten days of traveling and visiting and eating! How lovely to have neighbors who love you so much that they’re so sad you’re moving; hopefully you’ll be able to become just as close to the new neighbors when you move!

@merryapple Wow, that’s a lot of earthquakes so close to you. All of my Christmas cookies happen to be the kind you roll into balls (rather than drop from spoons), so I do the cookie dough in the freezer already scooped and ready to bake so that I can produce freshly baked cookies with only the need to put the dough on the cookie sheets and bake…no mess, no cleaning up, almost no time. And, the date nut swirls–a beloved old family recipe–is supposed to be frozen so it can be easily sliced, so it’s a perfect holiday cookie to have a few at a time. @molij mentioned she loves dates, so I’ll post the recipe when I can grab a moment. And good point about my sister’s appetite not being huge, but few of the planned meals are large, they’re simply consistent, LOL.

@funshipfreddie Condolences on your parents. My dad died at 57 in 1967 when I was 9 and my mom in 2015 at 96 when I was 56…but I still ache for my mom, and wish I’d had more time to get to know my dad. As a book title I once read proclaimed, the loss of parents is “The Loss that is Forever.” 💞

@jaifaim Congratulations for being firmly in the maintenance zone!

@northgeorgia Here’s something I’ve often wondered about you: have you ever considered being a permanent member of the ZBC? Even on NFDs? That might help you stay closer to the losing track than the maintaining or even gaining track…?

It seems all I do is tidy my house these days. All that shopping I’ve been doing–presents, groceries–makes a clutter that removes the peace from being home, so I’m trying hard to stay on top of it all. I folded origami stars to give to my piano students along with a small bag of candy, and that mess is still in front of me because I have three more stars to fold for tomorrow’s students, and I have one more batch of cookies to mix up, scoop, and freeze, and two final presents to wrap, and then I think I’m done with crafts and baking and wrapping gifts, and it’ll be down to practicing the organ for Christmas Eve and Day services. Or at least, I like to think it’ll be so easy and peaceful, LOL!

At any rate, Christmas Eve and Day will get here regardless of how “ready” I am, so I’m not bothering to stress about it…age has its advantages, as we learn that little piece of truth eventually, right?

    Have a grand one, everyone!

Haircut day!! Yeah!! My hair dresser works on movies now and does one day per week for his favourite clients if we’re lucky!!
@funshipfreddie Maungawhai = maunga plus whai or stingray = mountain of the stingrays. A lovely resting place😘
For the others: It’s on the coast and has a harbour. It’s a beautiful spot and is fast becoming a hangout for Aucklanders so realestate is on the⬆️
@jaifaim Fantastic!! I had to do a conversion to understand where you are down to!! 155lb = 70.3kg
It seems like a different mindset ‘getting back into the zone’ vs ‘losing weight’. Maybe because of trusting yourself to do this💪
My goal from the beginning was under 70kg but I’m now aiming for 65kg/ 143lbs. My friends say don’t lose any more weight(!!) I’m doing it slowly and quietly now because I look fine but it’s going to give me a buffer…
@brightonbelle I love the thought of watching a Christmas pantomime!!! Have fun and a really good laugh!!!
@missybear I love having a cold snowy Christmas and being tucked up inside. It’s our summer hols and everything shuts down for 6+ weeks…
@molij Enjoy Christmas celebrations and sherry with your lovely neighbours. At least it’s served in wee glasses!!
Where are you thinking of moving to?
@northgeorgia Its a weekly food total not a daily one in the end!! You’ll balance this out!!
@stitchincarol😇 Your summary is fantastic to hear!! Well done you!! I imagine your house is so Christmasy and your grandchildren will love your efforts!!
@at Your area must be stunning at this time of year.
I can smell your Chistmas baking from here!!🤣
@ccco How about planning what you eat with meds so it doesn’t interfere with your with your fasting plans – then you’re not ‘breaking’ your fast, you’re taking your meds??
@excelsior12309 Do you have more of an Italian tradition at Christmas or am I getting your love of pasta mixed up!!

Hi all, I’m aiming for a FD today.

@merryapple enjoy your new haircut! 💇 and thanks! Like you, I need the buffer zone so hoping to get back to my ATL in January which I think as 152 or 153 ish and 155 will be the limit of that maintenance zone.. I’m sure your friends mean really well but… listen to your body – we all know when we feel best in ourselves. 💪⭐️

Oh @missybear I think the days really are just whizzing by…. Well Done on holding out on the Baileys!! If there is one bottle which doesn’t last long after opening it’s Baileys – not because of the product itself just because it’s so delicious 🤤

@funshipfreddie how was your last line dancing class?

Good to see you @brightonbelle – hope your London day out was lots of fun!

    Day 19 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – FD

Our line-dancers’ Christmas lunch was fun. Marie, our teacher, awarded each of us a glitter ball trophy. I got the ‘Last Waltz Award’, because apparently I’m the only one with enough energy left to do one more dance once the hour is up. Which isn’t much of an achievement if you consider I’m at least a decade younger than most of the others 😅

@stitchincarol – wow – a 6 lb drop in a couple of days! 🎯 Our bodies do love to taunt us 😏 But, to lose a parent at 9 years old? So sad.

@jaifaim – congrats on being back in the maintenance zone! 🥳️ Yes, we are a well-travelled family. We spent over a year in Canada too when I was about 9, & one of my siblings now lives in Australia 🦘️ I’d forgotten that I’d mentioned working through something a while back. In a nutshell, I kept getting a video recommendation on YouTube – ‘Are you undiagnosed autistic?’ So I eventually watched it, & to say it was a revelation would be an understatement. So many things suddenly made sense to me, especially from my childhood. I did several on-line tests too, & I only got ‘yes’ or ‘most likely’ outcomes. So I then went to see a psychologist a couple of times. It’s not what I’d call an official diagnosis; that’s a very long & complicated process & not something I need. But she told me that in her opinion I was ‘on the spectrum’. Autism isn’t something people talked about in the 60’s & 70’s when I was growing up. You heard the word & immediately thought of a small, difficult boy having meltdowns. But it’s a spectrum, & many seemingly ‘normal’ & even well-known people have it. I mean, I’m still the same person, & my life’s not going to change one way or the other. But I understand myself better, & I’m no longer going to feel guilty or awkward about declining invitations or not wanting to participate in social activities that I don’t feel like doing.

@merryapple – yes, that’s the place! About 100 km north of Auckland. It was literally just a village when my parents moved there in ’99. Now it’s more like a town. I think the crazy house prices in Auckland have contributed to Mangawhai’s rapid development, & some people actually do a daily commute, about 90 minutes each way 🥴️

@missybear – your mention of short days whizzing by made me wonder when our longest day of the year is, so I just checked. The 21st – just two days away – is our summer solstice. Despite the fact that we just started summer. So you don’t have long to wait for your days to start getting longer 🌛☀️

Weigh-in: 234 lbs. I’m approaching today as a FD again. Yesterday went bust as the college president asked me to join him for a Christmas lunch. My mom is having major knee issues and the doctor is out of town 🙁

@stitchincarol In reality, I am a permanent member of the ZBC. I rarely have breakfast, but there are times when I have civic events with an included breakfast or my family invites me for breakfast. Heck, I even host breakfast (very late) on Christmas day. I just like to remind myself that even on days I don’t fast, I don’t have to have “breakfast” in the traditional sense, and oftentimes it can shift into an OMAD dinner or a FD 🙂

    Day 19 North Wales NFD

Yesterday’s Fast Day went well thank goodness. Every successful FD this time of year is a bonus. Going to the tip again today. I have nearly finish clearing every cupboard. I then plan on wrapping some glassware that we rarely use and putting it into some packing boxes. I then want to touch up some of the paint work. Luckily the most of the walls are ok. After Christmas I plan to clean, clean, clean before putting it on the market and deciding on places to hide things I don’t want out when people come to view.

@funshipfreddie out children live within 2 hours of each other. One in Leicestershire, one in Yorkshire and the other in Northamptonshire. Ideally we would like to live somewhere between them. We haven’t decided yet and will probably rent for a while to assess the area.

@jaifaim so glad you are in maintenance. ❤️

@missybear fantastic restraint at not opening the Baileys. 💪

@stitchincarol wow what an amazing weight drop well done 👏 looking forward to the cookie recipe.

@merryapple would love to share a Christmas Sherry with you. 🎄we are not sure where to move to yet. We do like Rutland.

@northgeorgia I hope your mums knee gets sorted out soon.

Have a good day everyone x

Day 19 – Rural Nebraska, USA – WFD

A young woman friend came over after church last night and we had a lovely time catching up over wine and cookies that she brought. As I headed to bed, I felt not the least guilt or regret that I’d indulged in her homemade cookies, both because they were excellent and also because I was able to do her the compliment of loving them so much. When I woke up a couple hours ago (at 4:15 or so, LOL), I had to rethink that opinion, as I’m feeling quite disgusting in my belly. Not sick, just disgusting from having eaten two (very rich) cookies. Yet another lesson in why I’m learning to practice restraint, sigh…

@merryapple Sadly, no grandchildren this Christmas. It’s such a long drive for DD and her family, and her firefighter husband doesn’t get Christmas off because he’s still the newest member. He does, however, get incredible money for working Christmas, so they’re never terribly troubled, LOL. And well done, you, for getting to a weight where your friends say not to lose more; that has to be incredibly gratifying!!

@funshipfreddie I felt so bad yesterday when @jaifaim asked you about the issue you’d mentioned you were working through, because I’d entirely forgotten to think about it. And to hear now that you’re on the spectrum–what a revelation, indeed, and how lovely to have different things in your life suddenly make sense. I love your conclusion to feel fine about declining invitations you simply aren’t interested in doing; we should all be able to feel fine doing so, but often we don’t.

@molij When you’re done with your home, wanna come work at mine? I have lots of cupboards and drawers that could use your attention! 😂😂

My sister arrives this afternoon, and we’ll get home just in time to have a hamburger vegetable barley soup that’s nutritious and filling but not rich, so a perfect meal after a travel day. I’m determined to do my WF day today, however, so will call on every bit of will power (“won’t” power?) to ignore the yummy soup and finish out the day with water only because it’s the last I’m likely to have until 2025. 😟☹️

Have a grand one, everyone, and I’ll post the cookie recipe separately.

Date Nut Swirls from StitchinCarol and her mom, Leola

    1 1/4 cup dates, chopped (8oz)
    1/2 cup sugar
    1/2 cup water

Cook the mixture over medium to low heat until thickened, stirring often enough that it doesn’t scorch on the bottom of the pan. Remove from heat and add the juice from a lemon (but zest it first to use below) and 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, then let cool.

    1 c butter
    2 cups packed brown sugar
grated rind from one large orange
    grated rind from lemon above
    2 eggs
    3 1/3 cups flour
    1 1/2 teaspoons salt
    1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
    2 tablespoons milk

Cream the butter and sugar together, then add the grated rinds and the eggs, and beat thoroughly. Add the flour, salt, and baking soda, and mix to combine; when nearly mixed, add the milk so it all comes together. It will be a loose dough.

Divide the dough in half and roll each out into a rectangle, perhaps 13″ x 9 or 10″, using lots of flour as needed–hence, starting with a loose dough. Spread with half the date mixture, reaching clear to the edges as you’re able, and roll it up length-wise (so it’s 13″ long). Roll it onto waxed paper (or whatever makes sense in your kitchen) and use the ends of the wax paper to lift it onto a cookie sheet and stick it in the freezer so it freezes flat. Mine (and my mom’s also) always start round but relax into an oval/rectangular shape, so that’s what I expect them to look like. Repeat with the other half of the dough and date-nut mixture. I’ve kept the dough in the freezer for several months and the cookies were still entirely lovely.

How thick to slice the cookies is largely due to personal preferences; I cut mine just under 1/4 inch. Put them on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes. Although, while that’s what my recipe says, I always think to myself, “No, I bake them at 350!” And my recipe says for 15-20 minutes, and there is ZERO possibility I want them that baked. If you bake them a minimal amount, they’re soft and chewy; if you bake them longer, then get crisp around the edges (my favorite way); if you bake them even longer, they become a crunchy cookie. So figure out what suits you; these cookies are very forgiving and taste wonderful regardless of how long you bake them.

Back in the day when zesting citrus was a chore on a box grater, you’d have to use a toothpick to get the zest out of the little round holes. My mom told me that, one year, because she felt she simply didn’t have time to deal with that, she skipped the zests. “They’re not worth making without the zest,” was her conclusion. I think of her saying that each and every year when I make them, and am SO thankful that modern graters for zesting citrus make the job so fast and simple!

    Enjoy!

@ccco – I think the phrase ‘quality not quantity’ can be applied to FD’s too! We need to find the right balance.

@stitchincarol – no need to feel bad. I’d already decided I wasn’t going to mention it again, but I hadn’t counted on @jaifaim‘s prolific memory 😅 I haven’t mentioned it yet to any friends in SA. It’s very personal, you don’t really want people to suddenly start treating you differently, & some people will even dismiss it, thinking they know you so well that it can’t possibly be true. So I’m keeping a lid on it, for now anyway. Re your waking up feeling not-so-great – could it have just been the cookies & wine combo? During my wine-guzzling years, I never really drank & ate simultaneously. Maybe some cheese or nuts. I didn’t even enjoy wine with a meal, because I felt it spoiled the taste of the food. I think the entire food & wine pairing thing is just clever marketing, dreamed up by restaurateurs. But I could be wrong 🤔

@molij – I’d never heard of Rutland. It looks nice & rural, according to Google maps.

Aiming to be a weekend warrior, with another FD on Sunday. Happy Fri-yay everyone! 🍹

    Day 20 – Ireland – CD 🚫 ✅ 🚶🏽‍♀️ 🌾

    155.5 lbs ⬆️

Oh this is feeling like a long week now… a jump up and don’t know why.. clothes are looser.. so I’m staying happy 😊

More festivities in work today and a quiet weekend on the cards…before the madness 😂 family have been arriving back from all over the world and I can’t wait to see them all over the coming days ♥️ and then we will all, siblings and the next generation, spend New Year’s Eve together – they can spend a ltittle time with their granny too although we know she will be tired for days afterwards.

How super interesting @funshipfreddie and so glad you can make sense of so much now. It must really be like a lightbulb switching on…but I understand why you might want to digest it yourself and not share with others just yet.. I hope I didn’t bring up a topic you’d rather have kept quiet here but maybe it’s good to share with non judgemental virtual friends? It’s funny because I think my memory is pretty rubbish but friends tell me its’s not 😂😊

Well done on the dancing 🕺 🪩

On the topic of people dismissing you, I get it… I certainly get the impression that people think my requirement to eat gluten free is a fad or some form of diet choice rather than a real life medical necessity. The pure and simple fact is that I feel so unwell when I eat it..that if I was to persist I would not be able to function at work, etc

Also… I’ve come to a point in my life where I very much weigh up what I do and don’t want to do and feel far less pressure to go with the flow just because others want me to… age and having so much pressure on my time these last few years has made me far more selective as to who I spend time with.

@molij – well done to you on starting the packing!! It’s exciting to en able to choose where you will want to buy 🏠 and well done on keeping to your FDs during this time.

Oh @missybear I hope your FD went well! And @ccco same for you with your WFD 💪

@stitchincarol the swirl sound deliciously sugary…. I’m tempted to attempt them though…. I shall let you know! When and if I do 😊

I’m a little distracted… too much to do today in work.
Hi to everyone else who is out there 👋
Bye for now and keep the faith!
