  • I lost one and a half stone last time but unfortunately a broken fibula last summer made me unable to exercise and inevitably the weight piled on again. This time around I weigh 8lbs less than when I started last time and on day one I feel pretty motivated. Currently cooking up a batch of lentil, lemon & thyme soup for lunches but I do find the worst aspect of this is meal planning especially as my medication regime means I have to take them with food. Any advice on this would be fantastic.

    Flatfluff,

I know how you feel. I gained weight in 2010 when I broke my clavicle and there was a lot I couldn’t do while it was healing. It was a bad break and took about 10 months to fully heal; my doctor said the break looked gnarly on the X-rays! He wouldn’t even let me ride my motorcycle or play guitar during that time, which was the toughest part.

I wasn’t on any meds during the healing time and wasn’t fasting so I didn’t have the issue of taking pills with food. Are you taking the pills with food more than once a day?

I’ve since lost the weight but I didn’t start on a calorie restricted diet until after I was fully healed. Sorry I can’t be more help. Just wanted to say hello and wish you success with your weight loss goals.

Hello Bronx, thanks for your response. Yes I need to take some meds twice a day with food and one in the morning before I eat so that makes it slightly tricky. At the moment I am drinking a small glass of almond milk as my breakfast.
Now that you have lost the weight are you on a maintenance diet?

Actually I do 5:2 as a maintenance diet. It lets me eat a little more without guilt 5 days a week and not regain weight.

Do you like drinking almond milk straight? I’ve tried it but didn’t care for the taste. However, I bake my own breads and use almond milk in recipes that have milk in the ingredients. Using almond milk and stevia in quick breads make great lower calorie substitutes for cow milk and sugar.

I tried making ice cream with almond milk a few times with different recipe combinations but never got that ice cream consistency I love so I don’t make it very often.

Hi, yes I actually do like the taste of almond milk as it’s nutty and I love anything nutty! What form of stevia do you use? I tried the powdered form in tea and hated it. I do wish I was strong minded enough to give up sugar in tea though I can drink coffee with or without a sweetener.
I am very impressed by the concept of baking with substitute ingredients, it sounds as if you have the whole diet thing sussed!

Check with your pharmacist but most medication that carries the advice of taking it with food means not on an empty stomach so it is most likely fine to have a small snack eg a yoghurt or an apple.
