Day 16 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD
I turned yesterday into a regular FD, and then went a little overboard, but don’t think I exceeded 800, so that’s all good. I’m still not done with getting all the paperwork to our banker, but am so very close, and that plus finishing the taxes put me in a celebratory mood that did not mesh with the retriction of a WFD, LOL. I won’t teach on Thursday, so won’t do a WF, but will do a regular fast; Friday will be another fast of sorts simply because it’s Good Friday. I’m very much looking forward to the meal we’re having on Easter; there will be 8 of us, and I’m only doing a portion of the cooking, so it should be very relaxing as well as yummy.
@jaifaim Yes, I’m lower than you, and OUCH at your post-vacation weight…but that’s entirely normal and reasonable. I’m certain you’ll get back down (you are, too, right?), and you at 154 are distinctly thinner than I am, so you can still feel virtuous even about your 161! I used to have to hit 145 to be in the acceptable BMI range, but because I’m mmore than an inch shorter now, I have to be 137 for the acceptable BMI range, so I have a long way to go before I match you for BMI!
@iona72 Wow–two weeks? Amazing. I bet that will be tough for your daughter, but doable because she’ll be so thankful to be healing?
@penz Thanks!
@daffodil2010 Well done on 4lbs so far this week, and if I’m entirely honest, part of what makes it so all-consuming is that I do very little bookkeeping during the year, so when it’s time for taxes, I first have to finish a year’s worth of bookkeeping. As @penz says, “My bad!” 😂😂
@northgeorgia I think you’re right that you need to start food journaling. And what I know for certain is that I will always regret that, when I was on my way back up from 140, I didn’t MAKE myself find the power to stop the gain. Could I have? Well, I didn’t find success then, but perhaps if I’d known how far I would go, I would have succeeded? Remember, as @funshipfreddie say, “It’s only food.” 👍💪❤️
Today, I sort and file away all the piles of paper, make a grocery list for Sunday, start practicing…etc., etc., etc. Have a grand one, everyone!

Another notch lower on the scale, now 4.5lbs down since start of month. Slowly goes but it’s going
We are off for the weekend this afternoon in our van, weather not forecast to be good but looking forward to the great outdoors, walks, bracing weather.
@merryapple the happiest of birthdays. Enjoy. 💃
Happy Easter all as I won’t be bringing the iPad with me so won’t be logging. Best health to you all. Xxxx
Day 17, NFD, Aus
Still got family staying and they brought food!! Biscotti, Florentines, macaroons etc. All the bad and yummy stuff. Who mentioned a food diary? I actually shuddered and mentally started lying!!
Happy birthday @merryapple!!!! Yummo – I’ve never heard of Calvados cream but that is now on my bucket list. I am so glad you are treating yourself on your birthday. You deserve it!
Happy Easter everyone, and if you do overindulge, there’s always next week to hit that big reset button.
Day 17 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – FD
Oops?! It was Monday; & now it’s suddenly Thursday 🥴
@merryapple – 🎶Happy Birthday to You!🎵 🥳🎂 🎈🥂 What is BAD? 😅 “my bad” is just another example of how the English language is being butchered. Easier to say, I suppose, than saying, “my mistake” or “I’m sorry” 🤷
@penz – I Googled it, & you’re right?! ‘My bad’ has been around since the ’80’s! – ‘It seems to have arisen out of urban American culture. Some bloggers have attributed the expression to Manut Bol, an NBA star in the ’80’s who immigrated from Africa and whose native tongue was Dinka.’ I first heard it in the early 2000’s though. I was dealing Blackjack, & there was a young American guy playing, who had no idea what he was doing. After every losing hand he’d mumble ‘my bad’, as an apology to the other players, I guess. At first I thought he was saying ‘my bed’! 😂 Anyway, it still makes me cringe on the rare occasion I hear it here.
@daffodil2010 – 4.5 lb down already?! 🥳 💪 🎯 Enjoy your trip! 🚐
Oh, I nearly forgot – Canopy-Gate?! I’m off the hook. I got this email from Judge Judy on Monday:-
“Further to the email below, please note that it has been brought to our attention that there is another unit in the complex with a canopy/awning at their back door that is the same as yours. This was apparently installed by the Rental Agent on behalf of the owner. We are currently investigating this as our records do not show any request and/or approval for the same. Kindly ignore the email below until we provide further feedback on this matter.”
I spoke to our chairperson yesterday, & she said as far as she’s concerned, the matter is closed. In fact she said that in future, anyone wanting to replace their canopies will be asked to use my style of canopy, as the metal ones are no longer made in this province 🥳

Weight down 1 #, from last week, so going very slowly the right way. But because of non-compliance over the past month, I am still 12# from my goal. But the battleship is slowly turning in the proper direction….
Happy Birthday to you, @merryapple! Your cake sounds wonderful!
@funshipfreddie, your dragon-lady spy in your development sounds as if she has been slapped down (we hope). Funny that they now want to emulate YOUR canopy. You are a trendsetter, it seems.
@penz, your family sounds dangerous with their delicious foods for the holiday….
@daffodil2010, I hope to keep along with you in the slow but steady track. Have a lovely holiday, good weather or not.
@iona72, I hope your daughter is improving. Perhaps it will fall to you to play Easter Bunny for your little granddaughter!
@northgeorgia, good luck with the applications for your graduate studies!
@stitchincarol, I hope your taxes are finally in the mail, and that you have a lovely Easter. This would be the last with your husband presiding at the church, would it not?
Have a good weekend, all! I am off to work early today.
Day 17 – Rural Nebraska, USA – FD500
Didn’t go up at all since I ate so little yesterday, and a FD should be easy today since I’ll be gone so much of it, and busy when I’m here–I already spent 40 minutes in my yard, cleaning up the herb bed, and am wishing I could just putz out there all day long!
Well done, @northgeorgia, to have had such a lovely result from yesterday’s FD. You can DO this–it’s just food. 🤷🏻♀️🥰 I’ll keep those thoughts in mind for myself as well!
Happy, happy birthday, @merryapple!! Your cake sounds absolutely glorious; enjoy it and the time with your friends!

Happy Birthday @merry🍎 sounds like you have a good time planned.
I’ve been trying hard this week to get the scale down a little. Missing breakfast, portion control bulked out with salad, no eating after 7pm, no wine etc etc we all know the drill!! Alas nothing but half a pound has gone. I will wait a week before I weigh again what with Easter, family gatherings, youngest birthday. It doesn’t really bode well🤔
Day 18 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD 71.3 kg
Another easy FD yesterday; not surprising after over-indulging on Wednesday though. Daily posting definitely keeps me on my toes, so I must keep checking in every day ✔
@excelsior12309 – that’s true?! I’ve gone from being a rebel to a role model within a week! 😅 😇
@northgeorgia – a 4 lb drop?! 👏 💪
@stitchincarol – you can’t do anything to your new house – even if it’s vacant, & you have the consent of the current owners?! That seems harsh. I mean, if you just wanted to move some belongings there, or sort out the garden or whatever..?
A couple of photos of a stunning cross some of the ladies were finishing up at the mosaic class this week. It’s two metres high, & it’s heavy! It took the three of them only 5 days – https://imgur.com/a/5XwUR1w
Happy Good Fri-yay!🕊
Day 18 UK NFD
If I can just stay the same over this looooong weekend I’ll be happy , DH has just arrived with some delicious hot cross buns so it’s going to be a challenge
Wow impressive work at the mosaic class @funshipfreddie
Day 18 – USA/GA – NFD
Weigh-in: 237 lbs. OK, even more amazing than that 4 lb drop post-FD is that I’m still the same weight today. I really wanted to grab lunch at work yesterday, so I decided to go for tacos and a burrito instead of deep fried chicken and french fries. I ate a later lunch, and just had a few cheese, crackers and fruit in the evening. I said no to the pizza my brother’s family brought in at 9 pm (say no to acid reflux, but also no to calories that have no where to go but to my waistline). This is one thing I had forgotten, that for some reason, my body is better with the largest meal at mid-day with very little if anything in the evening.
Of course, now it’s a crazy holiday weekend in regards to food, but I’m going to remember that on my regular NFDs and see if it helps out.
Day 18 – Rural Nebraska, USA – OMAD planned, but who knows
My FD yesterday was ruined by my hostess instincts: some friends who live in South Dakota showed up to church, so I invited them over afterward, which involved wine and cheese. Oh well, it was absolutely lovely to see them and visit together. And the scale was down a few ounces this morning, since I was busy, busy (burning calories apparently) and virtuous in my eating until then.
Today is yet another change of plans as DS28, who’s in charge of the main dish for Sunday, is coming up today to do some prep work, and said he wanted to do a trial run of the recipe to make sure he was pleased with it. READ: He’s making supper. Oh. //sigh// I’m surrounded by blessings, even though they’re also interruptions to my plans. So I’ll plan on an OMAD to compensate for the food he’ll be cooking.
@iona72 It sounds like your food choices are spot-on, which says you deserve a whoosh very soon!!
@funshipfreddie Nope, legally, not a thing. I’m sure it’s related to if the sale still somehow falls through, and the legal mess that can result. Although, I remember a number of sales when I worked at a title company in California, where the buyers took possession but rented for a few months, so they were clearly gardening then, LOL. Who knows. Escrow closes a week from today at 11:30am, so the wait isn’t long…
Oh my. Just looked at the Mosaic Cross, David. It is absolutely gorgeous. What are they planning to do with it?
@brightonbelle Do you know I’ve never had a hot cross bun in my life?
@merryapple Hmmm…the church’s Easter egg hunt was last Saturday, and it only takes about 8 minutes for the kids to find all of them. I wonder what I said…
@northgeorgia In my efforts yesterday to stay on track, I kept saying “It’s just food and hunger is not an emergency.” What always fascinates me is that, on a WFD, hunger is simply part of the day, but on an NFD, hunger sends me into a quest to resolve it. So I kept working to channel my WFD attitudes to get me through the day to my planned supper. Perhaps that will work for you as well?
Have a grand one, everyone!
Day 19 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD
@merryapple – I am having fun, but not too much. That’s a nice drop – & after a NFD too! 🎯
@stitchincarol – those ladies aren’t usually in our Tuesday morning group. They were just there to finish their project before Easter. I’m not sure if they usually go to the evening class. I think it’s a one-off project though, & the cross will be used during an Easter weekend service at St Mark’s Congregational Church, which is close to the studio. You’ve never had a Hot Cross Bun?! 😧
Have a good Easter weekend everyone 🌤🌈
Day 19 = Rural Nebraska, USA – some sort of control 🤷🏻♀️
Yesterday’s eating wasn’t at all bad, but I’m up a full pound this morning…oh well. I’ll behave today, and that’s all I can do.
@merryapple We had severe storms pass through on Maundy Thursday, and our little village escaped them entirely, but a mere 12 miles north of us was SEVERE damage–a hotel in the path had every single window broken by the huge hail. And then last night, a plane with three men crashed in the Platte River. Lots of tragedy in these days. How about your storm: beyond the debris and dirt and etc., was there severe damage for people? So sad when that happens, so I’m hopeful it was just a mess but no loss of life…And we too are supposed to have a full day of rain tomorrow. I’m thankful I don’t have little kids who are expecting an Easter Egg hunt!
Fun Easter Egg Hunt story: I was once watching the area where the 2- and 3-year olds were, and one kid had three eggs within a few inches of his feet, but when the bell sounded to start, he hurried right past them to an egg four feet away! I laughed and laughed that he thought THAT egg mattered most!
@funshipfreddie and @merryapple, nope ne’er a one! I’m thinking that’s on my list for next year. When I was in high school, I spent all four Good Fridays baking sweet rolls for our youth group’s Easter breakfast at church, and often miss that tradition that I actually carried on a few years into my 20s. I was just thinking that in retirement, it will be time to revive that tradition, and I think I’ll include hot cross buns!
Happy Easter to all! Today I’ll put away the Lent decorations and pull out the Easter stuff, set the table for tomorrow, get the prep work done for the food I’m in charge of, practice for the services…it’s a good list, but there’s plenty of time to get it all done, and it’s a day I always enjoy, anticipating the music and the meal. I hope your weekend is delightful for you all!

Day 21 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD, but well-behaved
What a lovely day we had yesterday. I made carrots florentine (and the veggies for the main course), DS33 made a salad with spinach, fruit and a poppyseed dressing, DS28 made Crawfish Newburg, and a friend made a ground pecan cake with raspberry gelee and fresh raspberries. We used our 1928 Noritake china from my Aunt Laila (it was her wedding china), and crystal wine glasses, and all the fancy touches I adore, and it was all glorious. And the scale was 157.6 this morning. Oh well, two days of good behavior will put me back down, and the day was absolutely worth it.
I wouldn’t let our friends help with dishes, but just sent them home, and I’m almost done washing up everything; now I’m taking a break to sit and have a cup (or two…or three, LOL!) of coffee. Have a grand one, everyone!
DAY 22, NFD, Aus
In-laws are still here. OH’s birthday coincided with Easter Sunday this year so LOTS of food. Am looking fwd to them leaving and I can eagerly revert to FDs.
I don’t like Hot Cross Buns but at least I’ve had one, @stitchincarol!!!!
Day 22 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD
Great weekend break away in our camper. Although the weather was non stop rain for two whole days we still found things to do and see.
A Flying Boat museum on the Shannon Estuary, the flying boats stopped here on their transatlantic journeys from New York, flight time of more than 13 hours at that time in the 30’s. Fascinating little museum. And half it taken up with a museum to the Irish actress Maureen O’Hara, filled with her gowns and tributes to her movies (of which I only knew “The Quiet Man” with John Wayne…..all a bit random until it was noted that her husband flew the last flying boat from the airport on the estuary here 😄
Birthday party yesterday for 9 year old Grandaughter…back on the wagon again today, FD, fast until lunchtime with egg salad…see how we go with lots of liquid.

I hope you all had a really lovely Easter 🐣
Glad to hear you had a great time away @daffodil2010 – I’ve visited that museum – it’s a funny little place but a lovely tribute to Maureen O’ Hara. I remember seeing a documentary on it as well which was interesting.
@brightonbelle I think I need to knuckle down for the next two weeks too as holidays on the horizon so am with you in that focus… 🙏
I’ve had some hot cross buns this weekend @stitchincarol and @penz.I can get great gluten free ones here… it’s a good thing but a bad thing if you know what I mean 😂. I am feeling it today. 🫣

Day 22 – USA/GA – NFD
Weigh-in: 238 lbs. Another food-laden week: lunch meeting today, reception tomorrow, and a dinner on Thursday. But I may just say hello without munching tomorrow (easier to do that than at a lunch), and usually our quarterly meeting on Thursday we don’t stay for dinner. My FD#2 plan is to fast tomorrow, and if that fails, Thursday. Since Thursday involves a lot of travel, I’d rather not risk a possible headache.
But for the next three days, I want to be mindful, despite any Easter leftovers… limiting snacking, simple carbs and other junk — keeping that FD mindset!

Day 22 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD
Checking in for accountability. Just had a relaxing morning at the mosaic class. Not too many people there this week, & everyone seemed a bit subdued after the long weekend, along with the gloomy weather. I grouted four coasters, & prepared another four to finish at home. Boo Boo was home alone for 7 hours, & you’d think she hadn’t been fed for two days 😿
Day 22 – Rural Nebraska, USA – WFD
Over a pound of Monday’s ugly weight is gone this morning, and today ought to dispatch much of the rest of the gain. I suspect it will be a tough WF since I had far too many carbs yesterday, so I’m “girding my loins” (what does that even actually mean, LOL) for the challenge.
I read all the posts (delightful visit from in-laws but ready to fast again, lovely time away in camper, cool-sounding museum, upcoming vacations, challenging week food-wise…) and need to get ready to head off for lessons.

Had a lovely family gathering on Easter Sunday, I did try to be mindful. Daughter made a delicious cheesecake, couldn’t resist one small slice. Easter Monday brought chickenpox to our 2 year old granddaughter, she has a lot of spots today but in quite good spirits!
I’m avoiding the scale until Friday morning, when it’s daughters birthday so out eating again 😳
Day 23 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD 16:8
The wheels came off my fasting wagon last night, with wine 😱, so back on it again today. There was raw onion in my salad last night and it is NOT agreeing with me at all, guess that’s another food to tick off my list of things I Used to tolerate ….but not anymore. I was awake a bit last night with it ☹️
Drank mint tea earlier, having ginger tea now, also had to take Gaviscon…boo.
Like @iona72 I will avoid the scales officially until Friday…but sneak peak not great.

Day 23 – Rural Nebraska, USA – ?? – 153.0
A 4.6 pound drop since Monday morning has me relieved that the awful weight truly was bloat from so much food on Easter. I can’t figure out what to pull off today eating-wise since I’m teaching in Omaha today, not tomorrow, but a second WF in a row is more than I’ve successfully handled in the past, so…? Plus, we’re doing the walk-through of our house this morning (the official check that nothing has changed since we decided to buy it–is that a thing elsewhere in the world?), and my inclination will be to go out for food and/or drinks afterward to celebrate. Clearly it’s a challenging day to figure out, LOL.
@merryapple I’m impressed that you have two different types of burners and your dye pot is gorgeous! I do hope you’ll show us the wool when it’s dry! Oh, and your dinner sounds glorious. ❤️
Deep breaths, everyone, and remember that you truly are in charge of what you do or don’t eat/drink. I say that as if I have it down pat, which I DON’T, but that’s at least one truth I know in my core. So, no trying, no luck involved, just doing–RESOLVE! 🥰
