    It’s hard to believe we’re already about five days into April (less than three hours away for me—and many of you are already well into Day 5).

    It was a CD for me today. I’m planning an FD tomorrow, aiming for a total of 600 calories.

    Here’s a question for everyone: What’s the one food you know will lead to quick and undesired weight gain for you?

    For me, it’s potato chips. Baked potatoes and mashed potatoes don’t have that effect, but potato chips definitely do. I can get away with eating a lot of things I probably shouldn’t without affecting the scales—but potato chips are the WHAMMO food for me, and I always try to avoid them.

    I had to do some online banking which was the perfect excuse to jump on here for accountability!

    Cooking a roast tonight for a dear friend who just lost her mother after a long illness. It will be a sorrowful evening I fear.

    I had a lovely night with my art family at the Auckland Art Gallery. I didn’t eat (I had dinner before I went) but had several glasses of🍷 then the chap who dropped me home came in for more🍷 I woke hungry and had two slices of sourdough and two scrambled eggs for breakfast before heading up Mt Eden with Paisley the Scottie😋
    I spent the rest of the day sewing up a rather difficult mohair/wool lace stitch jersey because of trying to get the right amount of stretch in all the seams. I have undone more than I have stitched up…
    @penz Being able to reminisce about her mother over dinner I’m sure will be a great help for your friend’s grief.
    @icystorm Probably icecream is my Achilles heel so I don’t have it in the house or buy one on a stick!!

    @stitchincarol That menu is gorgeous. There are so many things on it I’d love to try!! Our seafood restaurants tend to lean towards Asian (Chinese) or Mediterranean flavours rather than Mexican. I am drooling!!!

    @jaifaim Enjoy your Welsh walking. I used to watch Baldrick (can’t remember his real name!) walking the tracks and trails around the country. Wales looked wonderful.
    @funshipfreddie A fair where you can sell some mosaics sounds rather fun. My good friend was picked up speeding in her Holden on the motorway y’day ($270 fine) weaving through the slow traffic to get to a job. She was wearing scrubs and the policeman said “You should know better, you’re a nurse!!”

    @stitchincarol – congrats on the number!🎯 I hope you enjoyed the restaurant; but – ‘Plank’? Seems like an odd name for a restaurant? 😅 Sending you RESOLVE for your Saturday FD 💪

    @lilymartin – yes, I think I’ve got the FDs nailed down, though they will never be my favourite days of the week. It’s been a long time since I did B2B FDs though. I might do an occasional 3rd FD, maybe on a Tuesday. I’ve gotten used to the ton of food that appears at the mosaic class, but this week I was surprised when someone produced a large container of what looked like small Eccles Cakes at the line-dancing?! 😂 The line-dancing is only an hour long, but we usually have a brief 5 minute break midway, because most of the gang are in their 70’s & even early 80’s. But I never expected to see someone passing around snacks, & I hope it doesn’t become a regular thing.

    @daffodil2010 – Yes, Boo Boo is still a furry little diva. Sadly her nemesis Popsie succumbed to kidney failure just 3 days before Christmas, so Boo Boo is happily ruling this end of the village. I also wonder how @flourbaby – & Bo-Bo – are doing. @flourbaby disappeared around mid-November after mentioning problems related to her job. Hopefully she’ll be back soon too! 🤞

    It’s a lovely, sunny 22 C today, but the mornings & evenings are noticeably cooler. Winter is on the way…

    My FD went well yesterday, except that I had my weekly glass of wine. That means that today will go well, as I will not be having any more wine until next week.

    Day 5 – USA/GA – NFD

    Weigh-in: 239 lbs. Looks like I’m trending 2 lbs down from my post-vacation weigh-ins last week, so that’s good. Unfortunately, I’m up 10 lbs from over last year. Except for Easter, going to really push for getting the weight down this month.

    Day 6 NZ NFD 70.4kg🔺🏃🏼‍♀️

    We went over to Takapuna Beach for the morning dog walk. We arrived to find the beach bursting at the seams with 1,000s of young joggers. It was the junior school kids 5.9km Shore to Shore run. I felt like Salmon trying go up a river as they trotted past us… It was lovely to see them all enjoying themselves.
    It was daylight saving last night so we have an extra hour in the day.
    @ccco RNZ is Radio New Zealand, who put up the article. If you highlight the digital address and copy it you should be able to paste it into an email to send to your sister.

    @merryapple – I didn’t see your post until after I’d posted mine yesterday. $270?! That seems harsh. And a tongue-lashing from the cop too? I bet he was still wet behind the ears, & I think I would’ve been tempted to tell him that if everyone was perfect he’d be out of a job 🤪

    @icystorm – potato chips? Do you mean french fries, or chips as in ‘crisps’, as we Brits call them? I avoid both anyway. I never buy potatoes or crisps/chips, mainly because of the reason you stated, & I don’t think potatoes are particularly nutritious anyway. But roasted/salted peanuts are my kryptonite. So if I do buy nuts I usually stick to the raw/unsalted varieties. And I don’t buy cookies, cakes or any types of desserts either, they’re just too addictive & I’d demolish the lot in one sitting 🤣

    Eish, @iona72?! You’re a machine! If I was clocking up all those steps every day, I wouldn’t need to fast & I’d probably look like a whippet 😅

    Day 6 UK NFD

    Last day of my relaxed time , back on f800s tomorrow 💪

    I had to check my steps as I usually have it set to miles , not quite there with you @iona72 but the last 4 days I’ve done in between 15- 20k steps a day, I somehow think won’t be enough to compensate for hotel breakfasts and fish and chips

    Day 6-No. VA USA-FD 800
    I am on the third day of my three day weekend, which is like a vacation for me. But fasting today!
    Weather very warm, above average for the month. Will turn cooler tomorrow, I think.
    Lots of tree pollen floating around, turning everything yellow.
    @icystorm, I think good old bread (particularly toast) is one of my weak points. I try to avoid it, and I love to make it, also, so I avoid that, too. One slice, and off we go! @funshipfreddie, I am pretty sure icy storm was referring to “crisps”. They are also very tempting!
    @merryapple, your days sound so busy and fun. Good luck with the mohair construction!

    Why oh why do I sometimes think my Fast day has an ‘e’ before the ‘a’??? 🙄🙄
    Anyway, the weekend has been full of visiting/visitors; morning tea out; leftover quiche for lunch so just scrambled eggs on toast fro dinner.
    @icystorm, A CD and a FD sounds like you are doing very well with living 5:2.
    The thing that does me in is anything beginning with f, has ‘oo’ in the middle and ends with ‘d’.😲😲Seriously, can a person eat just one salted cashew or peanut? And cheese !! Yum!! and sandwiches and bread/toast; and ….yada yada yada. You get the drift.
    Hence I need to be on this thread and do 5:2 sensibly as you are doing.
    It is so easy to think one is doing 5:2 but unless I actually DO fast on a FD then I can’t really say I m doing 5:2 and that was the problem with me for some time!!
    Despite visitors tomorrow and 2 lots of visitors Tuesday I plan to do a FD tomorrow and make a salad from Otto Lenghi’s yellow book. I love his recipes. 😍
    @Excelsioor12309, good luck with the FD on your ‘vacation’. I am with you in the bread department.😬
    Some bakers make the best bread. I do make bread in the bread maker quite often but have been very busy lately.
    And the smell of freshly baked bread is not so good for my ‘won’t power’!
    @brightonbelle, I am seriously impressed with the number of steps you are doing at present. It should go close to offsetting the fish and chips and hotel breakfasts !
    @funshipfreddie, like you I have to not buy foods that tempt me because if they are in the house they don’t stay there for long!
    But I am feeling extremely virtuous as I cleaned out my freezer today and didn’t find too many UFOs (unidentified freezer/fridge objects).😁
    @penz, I am sure the evening reminiscing with your friend was very good for her. I am cooking a roast for visitors tomorrow but will serve it with a salad so it doesn’t get too much out of control.
    I don’t think you can beat a roast.

    I’m glad you enjoyed your evening with your art family – it sounded like fun.
    How busy you are! How is the sewing up of the jumper going? I always loved knitting but sewing up garments – not my favourite pastime.
    I tried to knit the most beautiful dress for a granddaughter aged 18 months. It looked gorgeous in the pattern and I am a reasonable knitter but with this particular pattern, no matter how carefully I followed it , the holes which were supposed to be there in columns always ended up on a slowly ascending diagonal. I pulled it out so many times the wool started to look very manky so I gave up in the end !
    @northgeorgia we are here to hitch you to our wagon and assist you with Astro and Amazing and Accountable and Awesome April so you will get rid of a few of the pesky kilos.
    I have been trying to lose the same 3 kgs for a year!!😱😱

    Day 6 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD

    Had to race out the door yesterday morning for an early meeting at church, where I knew there’d be food. Then I had to leave early so I could get to a family baby shower, where I knew there’d be more food. I wasn’t thinking clearly when I announced Saturday would be a FD, LOL! I skipped the food at the meeting, and ate very reasonably at the baby shower, and then cooked a healthy supper, and didn’t nibble until we ate, so was proud of that. And on Friday, I managed to make it an OMAD to compensate for the calories of going out to eat, so I’m up only 2lbs from my Friday morning post-WFD weight. That amount is to be expected, I’ve learned, and I’m pleased with the good choices I made on Friday and Saturday.

    Today will be the challenge, as we’ll be home all day, but I’m working on a strategy to keep me busy and out of the kitchen today, and I’m hopefull that I’ll find enough RESOLVE to follow through on my intentions.

    My paperwork is nearly done, then I’ll start the process of filling out tax forms (TurboTax, for those of you who know this American stuff), and then I’ll be able to breathe better.

    @funshipfreddie Yeah, I have also wondered at the name…”Plank” as in what pirates make you walk????

    Here’s a fun detail from our dinner out. We each had 6 oysters on the half shell, and an appetizer of fried oysters in a lettuce wrap, and then my meal was the lobster and shrimp roll; I figured at $35 I would NEVER ordinarily order it, so at the half price special we were enjoying, it was the time to do so (and it was every bit as glorious as the reviews said it was). And, to be as noble as possible, even though I suspected Plank’s fries (chips) were excellent, I ordered the salad to go with my sandwich. “But,” I whimpered, “can I please have ONE fry??” Our waiter was truly taken aback by such a request and struggled to find something reasonable to say.

    But he came through for me, because another order came up at the same time, and they’d ordered fries, so he took one rather small fry and put it on my plate! 😂😂😂❤️ So I had half and shared the other half with DH, and it was just as good as I’d figured it would be, but I got to be virtuous by having only the one small bite, LOL!

    G’morning!!
    It’s Monday and I am going to have a cleaning&vacuuming frenzy🙁… I have mohair ‘dust’ everywhere (jersey is finished), ironing and mending to do, the rubbish bins go out and garden path clean up thanks to the storm… Also I have had an invasion of ants in the ceiling which have been coming down the ‘swinging’ light fitting and dropping down onto the bed. They have been intermittently biting me over the last 18 months in the night leaving itchy welts. I couldn’t work out what was biting me or from whence they came. Was it a spider? Or something coming up through the floor boards? I even thought I might have had bed bugs from my last OE trip although this didn’t quite stack up…??? When I came back from holiday I discovered evidence – dead ants between the white sheets… They then swarmed on the ceiling 🐜 👀 so I have been up and down a big ladder with ant poison trying to defy gravity and put out ant bait… Fingers crossed after two bouts I have done it!!! Otherwise I might need the pest controller to visit😬
    Got to get going!!!

    Monday morning PFDS 😇 But my Chromebook is kapputt 😓 and I can’t even blame my cat this time. I don’t think it’s anything terminal, but I’ll still probably have to pay a small fortune to get it fixed. I’m off to find out. Typing on my phone is not my favourite pastime.

    I had a successful FD yesterday, so I will try for a repeat today. I find the 800 calorie reset for a week is not hard for me. Provided I dodge bread, sweets, etc !
    @lilymartin, thank you for the support. I like the expression “won’t power”. It seems to be stronger than “will power” at times!
    @merryapple, I am distressed for you regarding the ants. EWWWW. You are very brave, I would be in a hotel at this point, waiting for the exterminator!

    @ccco, I wish we could all see your lovely renovation when it is completed.

    Weigh in on day 5 was 2.5lb down from day 1 of this month, that was after a b2b 2 day fast though so not expecting it to stay off…. feel good, still figuring out how to control NFDs so they don’t undo all of the FD goodness!

    Didn’t log in over the w/e as lots on, catching up now.

    Wow, Merryapple! Ants in your ceiling! That definitely would have horrified me! Good luck with your ant removal. It sounds like you might need a professional pest removal service.

    FUNSHIPFREDDIE, I am sorry about your Chromebook. Last year, I had problems with my Mac. Among other things, it could no longer update, so had become vulnerable to hackers and scammers. I took it to Best Buy, where I belong to a special Geek Squad program, so they were able to force an update. That worked but I was told I really needed to buy a new computer. I had to change all my passwords to get the hackers and scammers out of my computer. Cleaning that mess up took months but I succeeded. I didn’t want to buy a new computer when I was about to do all those renovations. I was lucky I didn’t have to pay anything for the repair work thanks to the program I belong to. Maybe I wil get a new one after this tariff situation is resolved. 5 Million people marched yesterday, with my sister and her husband among them in D.C.

    NorthGeorgia, I agree with you about controlled OMADs. I think they are helpful, too.

    Yesterday went well, even though I had some white wine. I only do that on weekends but I am joining the pocket list for some encouragement. Since spring has sprung, I am very busy gardening, which keeps me very busy and my mind off food!

    2nd post – day 7
    Struggling today – FD. Got to 18hr mark and have been wanting to dive into the fridge/cupboard. Any tips? – hoping when I get to the 24hr mark and can see “bedtime”, it’ll be ok.

    Also, forgot to mention earlier @merryapple – I hope you are able to get rid of the ants, I would not sleep until they were gone – at least though they’re not bed bugs, that’s a much harder issue to resolve…..

    Day 7 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD

    Weighed 2oz less than yesterday morning, so am thrilled at the restraint that indicates for yesterday. Haven’t figured out today’s menu, but it should be easy enough to well-behaved.

    Slowly, slowly, s.l.o.w.l.y. all my paperwork is getting completed, but DH just found some receipts this morning that we need to include…LOL, it just never ends! I keep assuring myself that, eventually, my days will be boring. Boring looks excellent at the moment! 😏😂

    @funshipfreddie UGH!!! I hope there’s a fast and cheap solution for you as well, both because you need it, and also because posting on my phone is abhorant to me as well!!!

    Okay, back to all my paperwork. The garden is calling me, but both because I have taxes/paperwork, and because it’s only a bit above freezing, I’m ignoring the call, but that will be my reward soon, that I get to go play in the dirt for a bit!

    How I wonder did I go up?? Unless I had too salty drinks (miso). Time will tell… I have been eating when hungry, having lots of vegetable soups and hardly any sourdough bread! I’m making sure I eat enough protein too. I just need to keep going with good habits and something will happen…
    Thanks for your concern about ants!! I didn’t know this would arouse such passion!!

    I am happily in the new lower decade of weight, saw it there Saturday, the usual weekend blip, but back down today. And it’s only Tuesday. Yay!

    Have to catch up on everyone’s post and will do so at lunchtime. Stuck WFH as my car needs to be fixed and I cannot drive any of the motorbikes we have so I am without transport 😆

    Day 8 – USA/GA – NFD

    Weigh-in: 238 lbs. Not so successful yesterday. By the time I was heading home, I had the beginning of a fasting headache. Within ten minutes of driving, it was pounding, I was feeling nauseous and a little dizzy. Too bad my emergency “kit” was back in the office. I tried some cucumber with salt and a bit of vinegar — nope. I gave in and broke fast with saltines. I drank water and took a Tylenol. I still ate very lightly, but probably went above 800, not sure, with the carrots, small turkey wrap and crackers I ate later that evening.

    It was an odd reaction, but then I remembered I got the 2nd Shringix vaccine on Saturday afternoon, and I have heard that some people feel nauseous a few days later. I thought other than soreness, I had survived. But I guess the fasting strengthened the side effect that I hadn’t noticed. Still, I was down two pounds, and I’m feeling better this morning.

    Day 8 – SE UK, NFD (CD)

    Aiming for a TDEE type day today, last few NFDs have been way over TDEE….

    Week 1 check in – down 1.6lb over the week. Aim is -5lb over the month.

    Day 1: 164
    Day 5: 161.5
    Day 8: 162.4

    Isn’t it amazing the difference a bit of sunshine makes to the day? – hoping it’ll motivate me to get out and about a bit more for walks – default setting being “couch potato”….

    I went to bed only a little over a pound heavier than I’d started the day, so I was pleased to anticipate this morning’s weight. But, like @merryapple, I was astonished at my weight–only 2 ounces down from last night! I typically lose two or three POUNDS overnight. So, who knows, but today’s WF will certainly dispatch some of it.

    @daffodil2010 Wow, you are not only back in fact, but you’re back in success; well done to be steadily losing from the get-go!!

    @merryapple Tell more of that mohair sweater; did you knit it and not mention it until done and ready to sew up?

    Yesterday, I finally got my “Christmas stocking stuffer” from DH, and my car got detailed; I’m looking forward to driving to lessons today in such a clean car! The sad news is that all my paperwork came to a screeching halt yesterday because DH’s W-2 (this is familiar to the Americans) has wrong numbers on it, so the church treasurer is taking it to be fixed to the bookkeeping business that always fills it out. I’m disappointed because I would have come VERY close to finishing last night, but now I’m at the same point I was at noon. Oh well, a break is good, too, right? Or so I keep assuring myself! 😏

    @anicecupoftea Drinking sparkling water (no calories, just sparkling) often helps; when it’s not helpful enough, I resort to gum. Did you make it through the hunger pangs okay?

    Hi @stitchincarol – thanks for the tip, I got through it by drinking hot blackcurrant juice. I’ll get some sparkling water for next time. 18hrs seems to be “the wall”…

    My mohair/wool jersey has been knitted several times over… I started knitting a 4 row 7 stitch lace pattern in the round. It parallelogrammed sideways and the pattern became diagonal rather than vertical… It dawned on me that I needed to knit front and back pieces with a pearl row to keep the pattern straight. I did the ribbing with shaker stitch (1/2 fisherman’s rib) and bottom up so the seams stabilised the garment. I’ll take a photo!!

    Day 9 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD

    A nice FD and mooching further into next decade. Normal day today but will do 16:8 and fast until lunchtime.

    Back to the office today as car is fixed and looking forward to that as WFH is not for me long term, the isolation, the shouting at the laptop 😆……

    @merryapple I did have a motorcycle licence years ago but was still very much a novice. One day out for a spin on my little Suzuki 250 Gn, with DH travelling behind me on his BMW, I got spooked by a car coming quickly out of a junction (always a problem on a motorcycle when car drivers don’t see you) and to avoid I mistakenly increased the revs, did a spectacular wheelie travelling down the country road and fell into the verge with the bike on top of me. Only soft tissue damage and pride was hurt, I got back on the bike and drove her apace, but then suddenly the fear came over me. We left the bike, I hopped on the back of DH’s bike and he brought me home……and I have never ridden a bike again. It’s pillion all the way now and we bought feel comfortable with that 😍

    @merryapple – I just drink hot/cold drinks on FDs, if I ate anything, that would be the end, can’t imagine being able to stick to 500 or 800.

    @daffodil2010 – I’ve never been on a motorbike, maybe it should go on a bucket list or something….

    Anyone else get absolutely freezing cold on a FD? – thought I had covid again

    Weigh-in: 241 lbs. Going to try another FD today. I have my emergency “kit” of nuts and a few wheat crackers at work, but I think I may take a few saltine crackers, too, just in case I have to alter or abort mission.

    USA. Day 9

    I am not sure whether I will be on a FD or not today. I am playing golf with my daughter (despite how cold it is) and following it with lunch together. Tonight I have a cocktail party. I plan to stay under control. As spring approaches, my physical activity substantially increases, which is always good for my weight!

    When I was young, I enjoyed riding on the back of a motorcycle. It was even quite thrilling but I never had a desire to own or drive one myself.

    I guess I had better move on and get ready for my golf game.👍🏻 I hope everyone is having a great day!

    Day 9 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD – 153.4

    Lovely scale number; with control today, Friday morning’s post-WF weight should be even slightly lovelier, so that’s motivating me to be truly disciplined today with my choices.

    @merryapple What lots of fussing you had in order to sort out what was causing the issues with your sweater! Looking forward to the photo!

    @daffodil2010 I have a similar story with bicycles (broke my arm when I fell biking on gravel when I was 11, got hit in the front wheel by a motorcycle when I was 14), and now I’ll only bike on a solid and hard surface, and people have to STAY AWAY from me, LOL. Which is to say, I have given up biking, as the stress is not comfortable!

    @anicecupoftea Yup, FREEZING cold. It’s a great side-effect on hot summer days, but more miserable on cold days, so in addition to my sparkling water, I drink lots of herbal teas for the warmth. But they don’t help with the hunger the way the sparkling water does, so…

    @brightonbelle Impressive RESOLVE that you’re sticking to 800 calories, despite the tiny glitch in yesterday’s consumption. 😏🥰💪

    Day 10 NZ FD 70.2kg🔻🏃🏼‍♀️

    At last I am coming down but it is taking lots of discipline and effort and feeling hungry. I’ve had plantar fasciitis from arch supports in a pair of shoes (which are now going to be binned) over the last two days so have been off my feet… I love and mainly wear Church’s shoes particularly because they don’t have arch supports.
    @daffodil2010 I’m pleased to hear you weren’t hurt v much when you crashed. I had a a 125 trail bike, then a 350cc Honda plus a ten speed and now e-bike. I’ve had a few close calls but managed to stay upright!!
    @anicecupoftea I often feel v cold on FDs… much more so than people around me. I’ll run up and down the steps in our wee Reserve to warm up in winter.

    Day 10, NFD, Aus

    Good FD yesterday but no extra weight loss for a few weeks. It’s the NFDs that are to blame! Well I am to blame really.

    Congrats on the new weight decade, @daffodil2010. I once dated a motorbike … (the bloke that came with it was no good) – great fun but never had the urge to learn to ride myself. Glad you survived the experience!

    I had to laugh about your one chip/fry request @stitchincarol. So glad they were able to fulfil your wish!

    Yes, @anicecupoftea – feeling cold on a FD is quite common! Terrible in winter time when I just feel like stodgy winter food to combat it!

    Families (both sides) are visiting next week so will be tough to squeeze in a FD. Will have to be very disciplined!

    Day 10 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD

    Goid day yesterday, it was an NFD but stuck to 16:8, and it seems to be working. Just 2 ounces this morning from slipping into the next lower number in the lower decade (cannot admit my weight as I used to be 130 and NOWHERE near that now) but it’s motivating to see it tick downwards.

    FD today. DH warned. No goodies. Strict FD for me with bone broth veg soup for dinner.

    @anicecupoftea…feeling cold is one of the side effects of fasting that I dont like, as I am a cold creature body temp anyway. Not a typical WOCA in that way 😄

    @stitchincarol so funny re the reasons you not biking (not of course the injuries ) but the Stay Out Of My Way reason !
    Funny! I don’t like to cycle much as I hate when dogs chase the wheels, and that scares me on the open road. I don’t even mind dogs, just not chasing after me barking while I try to cycle away 😆

    Apologie for being AWOL but unexpected and rushed tip to the city where I am staying for a few days with intermittent wifi Internet so will se how I go whilst ‘herding cats’ for the group.

    @stchincarol, I am glad to hear you are slowly getting on top of your paperwork! Technology (I feel for you @funshipfreddie) and @cccco last beer! is so frustrating when it does not work . 😱

    Day 10 – USA/GA – NFD

    Weigh-in: 238 lbs. Yesterday’s FD went well — I don’t recall feeling ill at all; I had a salad, a cucumber, and instead of soup, some pasta dish my mom made — it was a few calories more than the soup I planned, but even if I didn’t stay under 500, I stayed under 800. I think I may start training myself to eat smaller portions again on NFDs. It’s odd how bad habits creep in from multiple directions. This has been a rough week with the headaches and nausea, but I think I’m through it or almost through it all.
