  • Hi,
This is my 3rd week fasting. I’ve not lost a lot of weight about 3lbs. My first week, I did the 2pm-2pm fasting 2 times a week, but I’ve since changed it to a same day fast. I am experiencing a weak/shaky feeling the following day each time I fast. My normal eating routine has always been in intervals, 7:30 some almond milk, 9:30 a hard boiled egg and 1/2 serving of almonds..11/11:30 a Greek yogurt, then salad with chicken around 2/2:30 along with a piece of fresh fruit and 1 oz of pretzels..then dinner at 6. I’m thinking that the fasting is a shock to my system. Any suggestions, will this eventually pass? I do exercise 4 out of the 5 day work week on my lunch hour. (i work at a college, so I have the option to take aerobic classes and full access to the gym) I also walk my two dogs when i get home for at least 20-30 minutes. One other question, because I have always exercised and eaten a fairly good diet (not so much on the weekends.) I find it difficult to drop the weight. I am a 54 woman, and I get that it is hard to lose the weight. I am an “apple” shape, (hereditary), so I know it is important for me to lose the belly fat. It just seems when that scale doesn’t change, it can be discouraging. However, I am going to stick with it.. Anyone else experience a similar journey, will the weight eventually start moving week after week?

Maddie, it is important you see a doctor to consult as this could be an unsafe diet for you. On the fasting days although you’ve limited calories try and take fruits with high natural sugars to compensate. The exercise you’re doing paired with your dietry habbits don’t make sense when you’ve no weight loss, again consult your doctor as there could be an underlying condition preventing weight loss. Try and up those walks to runs or even walk-jog-run, walk for 5 mins, jog for five and run for around 2 mins at about 70-80%
    hope this helps

Thank you, dmccormac. To date, I’ve not really lost much weight doing this fasting diet, I would say about 5 lbs at best. I am very rigid with it, following it to the t. I am seeing my endocrinologist later this month, i will speak with her about it. what kind of underlying health problems could there be? I have to say, it is frustrating..thank you again for your advice.

    Hi Maddie:

The average weight loss on 5:2 is about a pound a week, so you are right on schedule.

You don’t say how many calories you were eating before 2 pm the first day and after 2 pm the second. You might figure that out and see if you were not cutting as many calories out of your diet as you thought you were (a day runs from midnight to midnight for 5:2 purposes).

Also, your exercise may curtail your weight loss.

All of these issues are addressed here: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

I doubt if you have medical problems – your body just needs to adjust to a new eating pattern. It takes about a month. However, many people find that eating just one meal in the evening that is high in fat and protein works best.

    Good Luck!

Hi, I stopped after the first week with the 2pm to the 2pm fasting. I went to the full day cycle of fasting, I found it easier to get it done in the 24 hour cycle, (which is actually a 34-36 hour of fasting.) I have been doing the diet since October 13, which is now about 7 weeks in. I am seeing a very slow loss of weight. I feel thinner, and I know i have lost about a 1/2 inch. The weekends are my biggest issue, we eat out friday night, and sometimes Saturday night. While I am careful what I eat, I still eat more than I would if I were eating at home. I have struggled with losing weight for 10 years now. Mostly since I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, as well as going on an SSRI. Which caused me to gain about 30 lbs when I was prescribed it for the first 2 years, then I switched to an extremely low dose and the weight did stop pilling on. Thankfully! I pack my lunch every day for work, always count and measure, nothing fattening, yogurt, hard boiled egg, grapes, almonds, salad, with light dressing, 1/2 serving of pretzels. Pretty much that is my week day. I work at a desk, but I get out on my lunch hour to the gym or out for an hour fast-paced walk, at least 4 days a week. (fridays are usually a day I skip!) Anyway, I am feeling a bit discouraged. Thank you for listening.
