  • I’ve heard great things about this lifestyle/diet and I need to change my diet as I feel myself getting heavier and more sluggish by the day. I’ve made a few changes since the New Year but I feel myself slipping back into old eating habits, I’m in college and it’s unfortunately cheaper and more convenient to eat unhealthily than otherwise. I also work in McDonald’s which has added to my weight problem. I’m just looking for a few tips as I’m starting this diet tomorrow and don’t feel that confident about it at the moment!

Hello and welcome! I have been on the 5/2 diet for roughly 6 weeks now and have seen amazing results. The first advice I can give you is to actaully try this plan for a full month before giving up on it. Fast days can be very hard at first but they do get easier. By my 6th fast day it became almost normal. The first day though- it will be hard! Power through it and just remember you can eat the next day. Also- on non-fast days don’t go crazy eating. Enjoy the foods you like but try to eat everything in moderation. Whenever I’m tempted to overeat I think back on how hard those early fast days were and how I don’t want to waste that effort. Good luck!

I’ve been trying to diet since jan but I’m finding it hard to stick too and have not lost weight but put on weight …… The diet I tried was an old favourite …. Maybe I know it too well and finding it hard to get motivated …… So I’m looking for someone who is starting at the same time and maybe we can keep me going? Any other tips would be great from the ‘long timers’

Also varied advice on what to eat/ drink or not to eat or drink ..is it a matter of reducing calories only or ensuring that the food you eat will aid detox???? Confused what us best to do…. So …….. I would love some tips on keeping it simple / cheap and quick on for fast days ….. Any help gratefully received ….. Good luck

Hi Teresa_louise, I’m starting today!! I’m kicking off with a fasting day today. I had a piece of toast (Helga’s low carb) & a boiled egg for breakfast. I’ve been drinking green tea during the day. Dinner will be steamed green veggies & a piece of fish. I would love to lose 20kgs. I’m feeling very motivated and as I’m sure you know, that’s half the battle!!!! Good luck! 🙂

Hi ailsinsydney, thanks for the message

I have been doing this for about 4 weeks now. I fast Mon & Thursday and am very careful about my eating on Tues and Wed. I relax more Fri / Sat and by Sunday I am a big piggy again!

On a fast day I have herbal teas all morning, a bowl of soup at about 100kcal for lunch and a 350kcal dinner (grilled chicken breast, baked sweet potato and salad is a good example). I keep back 50kcal for a coup of hot chocolate before bed. I always find Monday hard and sometimes cheat with a few dried apricots or a cup of coffee with a milk and sugar. I always keep below 600kcal even if I sometimes miss than 500 mark. I find I am not hungry then on Tuesday so I tend not to eat until lunch, have soup and then have a larger dinner. Same again on Wed and by Thursday it is a breeze. I probably only eat 1000 – 1500kcal on Tues/Wed/Fri.

On the weekend I make mindful choices but don’t count anything. Yesterday I had pizza for tea and just stopped when full. I also had biscuits in the evening.

So far I am losing about 2lb per week. I had about 2 stone to lose and am a quarter of the way through. I am finding this diet pretty easy to stick to and the results are good. I have more energy, a better appreciation of when I am hungry / not hungry and even my skin has improved.

That’s great advice thanks just what I needed 🙂 so far so good for me today ….. Not eaten anything yet just coffee and tea ….. Been looking for soup or juice recipe for lunch then I’ll think about dinner ….. Good tip to save a hotchoc for bed 🙂 feeling more motivated and positive now …. Thanks again that’s really helpful 🙂

.. I’m at the end of the day and pretty pleased with myself ……. The lack of choice meant that it was easier for me ….. And knowing that I can eat normally tomorrow is helpful too ….. Found a great vegetable juice recipe which felt like a treat 3 large glasses 110 cals in total

Glad you found your first fast day easy. I think a lot of people struggle (myself included!) on their first fast day so if tou breezed through that’s half the battle won!
