  • abitunGracefil GM. We use to live in Back Bay on Commonwealth Ave. My sister-in-law lives in Milton. Out of all the cities we lived in Boston is my favorite!

Your dinner last night sounded so delicious! Going to need to try that.

Today is my “normal” day. I try to eat 1000 calories. We are leaving for a road trip until Sunday. I’m hoping I can stick to my plan and not add weight! I was hoping to be at 120 before we left but I’m 1 pound away. Darn cupcake that I had late last night on my FD. ugh! We attended a soccer party and I made cupcakes. It was calling my name late last night before bed.

Having a great week and I will log-in when I get back.

I lived in Boston from 1977- 1980, when I went to Boston Univ. Law School. I lived on Comm Ave out in Alston and then Beacon Street off Park. My aunt lived in Cambridge on Broadway for many years, and there’s a park named after her at Broadway and Ellery Street.

I’m glad so many people have ties to Boston, I love my city!

Carmela, 1000 cal is your TDEE!? I couldn’t survive… even at my most calorie restricted (when I was restricting every day, not fasting) I didn’t go below 1200 and it was still unsustainable. To quote Amy Schumer “‘Who wants to, like, chew and eat food all the time?’ Me. I do.” haha

Yesterday was a very successful FD for me. I have a bit of trouble falling asleep but when I woke up this morning I felt like I’d slept really well. I rode my bike into work this morning and I’m having a homemade whole milk latte (office bought an espresso machine… it’s glorious) and some whole wheat toast with peanut butter. Some mornings I wake up ravenous and scarf down my breakfast in 2 minutes but today I’m not *starving* so I’m just slowly eating my toast and enjoying my coffee. Feeling great 🙂

    How’d did your fast go?

I find it hard to believe that your TDEE is less than 1200, Carmela. Have you calculated it on this site in the “How it Works” section? Also, the experience of lots of people on this site say that if they eat sugar (cupcake😊 or in coffee), it’s harder to fast the next day. Although it’s better to cut sweet things entirely, you might find that using stevia or Splenda is better in coffee as it’s not so disruptive.

    abitunGraceful and Apricot,

Thank you both for insight and feedback. My TDEE is 1,769 to maintain my current weight. I set my daily calorie intake at 1000 to 1200. I usually on days go over to 1200 but I aim for 1000. The extra 200 calories is my allowance that I use for the day when I want to snack with the kids etc. Some days I’m even over. So I think it levels out to be 1200 per day give and take some days I eat more on my non-fast days.

I’m just about at my goal weight which is 118. I’m 121 as of today. Also if I eat my TDEE of 1,769 I will gain weight. It think it could be because of my age 48 and not having a lot of muscle even though I do workout. I do the 21 day Fix videos which are 30 minutes and when I go to the gym 30 minutes of cardio. I just don’t have the motivation like years ago but I do workout about 3/4 per week.

My fast day when well until I ate a cupcake late at night. I looked soooooo good! Ugh. My next fast day is on Thursday while I’m out of town. I will do my best. Otherwise I will be home by Sunday. My fast days are Monday and Thursday,

Thank you again for your comments.I appreciate it and good suggestions.

I really don’t want to sound preachy, but fasting two days a week and only eating 1000 cal the other days when your TDEE is 1769 really sounds dangerous! It is recommended that women not go below 1200 cal a day, and that’s not taking into account eating 500 on two of them. As someone who has seen the scary side of eating disorders, I can’t help but be concerned.

Camela04, if you cut back too much you sort of defeat the purpose of 5:2, of eating more normally on non fast days. You may not be allowing your body to have a normal metabolic rate. You are a lot younger than I am and workout a lot more. I don’t know that you’re doing anything but restricting your diet a la Biggest Loser.

Have to agree with the other posters. If your restricting your calories every day then what youre doing is not 5:2, its just 24/7 restriction. This will have the effect of slowing down your metabolic rate to match your “starvation” mode dieting. Not sure how this can be sustainable long term. You want to trick your body into thinking it isn’t on a reduced calorie intake, which 5:2 does. Im in maintenance mode and do 6:1. My one day is a water fast, but I eat normally on the other days. Your almost at your goal weight so maybe try eating normally and water fast one day only. Just worried that what you are attempting to do is not sustainable.

So today is a regular day for me, and work catered our lunch. I was working in the lab when the food first arrived, and by the time I got there, the only options left were chicken salad sandwiches, a mediocre caesar salad, and cookies/brownies. I don’t eat chicken salad, so I took a plate of salad and put 1-2 tbsp dressing on it and a cookie. It was pretty unsatisfying and so when I went back into the kitchen I ended up eating another half cookie, 2 mini brownies, and a bag of smartfood popcorn. Why?! It was all so underwhelming and I ended up feeling gross after. Ugh. Next time I’m gonna bring my own lunch and eat something more delicious and enjoyable so I don’t end up eating cookies for lunch.

Hi everyone! I’m fasting today and woke up with horrible heart burn. Ugh. Also, I just found out my department is taking us out to lunch for one of my coworkers’ last day. I’d brought the rest of my hardboiled egg and shirataki noodle soup from Monday’s fast to have for lunch, but I don’t want to miss out on going out with my department. And we’re going to Summer Shack, aka all fried food all the time. Really throwing off my groove first thing this morning! But, I’m gonna do my best to make it work. We’ve been asked to put in our orders ahead of time, so I ordered a garden salad with grilled shrimp, no dressing. So I think that should be about the same as my soup would have been… and then I can have the soup for dinner. Maybe with only one egg/only egg whites depending on how many calories the salad ends up being (I emailed the restaurant to see if they could give me nutrition info since it’s not posted on their website).

    Wish me luck!
