  • hi LittleDragon and Angie – I’m fasting along with you today. My day is just starting here in the US and I think yours is well along already. I’m just nursing my black coffee right now, looking at the snow and trying to wake up. I have no idea what I’m having for dinner – I just do whatever I feed my family, but less of it. (I save all my fast day calories for dinner)

Hope your fasting is going well!

Good morning to you Kilda, wishing you a successful fast day today. It’s 12.06pm where I am so nearly lunch time! I don’t think I could save all my calories for the evening meal!

How is your fasting going so far? When did you begin this diet?

    Have a great day!

    Hi Kilda!

hope your day is going well, yes we are half way here lol, just had my lunch, I don’t have breakfast but I have to have something at midday, I really admire fasters such as yourself who can go all day with no food!!

no snow here, quite cold though but sunny 🙂 I am in Kent, south east England, whereabouts are you in the US?
I have a friend in New York, it seems its been snowing forever there!!

have a good day, and enjoy your dinner this evening 🙂 xx

Nothing to admire, I just find it easier to get through the fast if I don’t wake my stomach up by eating. Plus it’s not hard to make dinner fit under 500 calories. Those of you who break up their fast day meals have to get a lot more creative, I think, so I admire that!

You’re about 5 hours ahead of me. So when I finally get to my dinner, you’ll be getting to bed with a successful fast day behind you! 🙂 I’m in Maryland, on the east coast, in the mid-Atlantic area. About 2 hours from NY, and an hour from Washington DC. I love snow but this winter it is just endless. I’m ready for spring!

I started the diet early January, so I’m just in the early part of my 6th week now.

great day to you both as well!

I know what you mean but I get pretty hungry around 4pm if I’ve not eaten. I guess it’s mor difficult because you have to cook for your family and eat with them. I rely perhaps too much on ready-meals on fast days but I just find it so much easier.

Stay warm! I heard that America is getting some crazy snow storms. English weather is notoriously bad but nothing compared to what you guys have. Like you, I am also ready for spring.

I started the diet on Jan 13th so a week behind you. Good luck and let us know how you go today! xx

Hello everyone, I always seem to be out of sync on the chat front.

How has the fasting day gone Angie and Little D? I somehow survived yesterday and managed not to murder my son! Yesterday for lunch I had a crumpet topped with 20g of smoked salmon trimmings and a medium poached egg on a bed of watercress, which was about 230c; then for dinner I had homemade bolognese sauce (180c), with purple sprouting broccoli. Think I may have crept 8ver the 500 slightly but not going to beat myself up over it.

This morning while you were all chatting I was being thrashed by my 13 year old and 10 year old in a swimming race, inspite of the head start they gave me!!!

Hey JFitzy we started at the same time 🙂 No more weigh ins for me ’til March 7th! Excellent news on the dress front LittleD, bet you look fabulous – make sure you have a good time tonight.

BTW the Raspberry Pi worked in the end 🙂

Fasting tomorrow, have the Waitrose Spinach and Ricotta Cannelloni for tea and maybe berries and fat free yoghurt for breakfast!

How’s it going for you two Silvestra and Kilda?

    Keep fasting everyone 🙂

Hi @hilly66 Non fast day for me – but the nearest I got to chocolate was a chocolate rice cake!! 😀

It sounds ridiculous but I’ve been trying to eat more ..my weight loss has come to a wee bit of a sticky point and I think I may not have been eating enough on non fast days. This week I’m trying to eat nearer to my TDEE to see if it helps. This weight loss thing is all about ‘try it and see’ I’m afraid.

You’ll soon be beating your offspring at their own game!! Enjoy your cannelloni – it sounds rather nice.

    xx

    Evening Hilly66!

Fast day has gone ok, though i felt pretty irritable all day and my poor doggies stayed well away from their grumpy mum 🙂
Sounds like you had a good day yesterday lol, those boys of yours are sure keeping you on your toes hehe!!
Good luck on your fast tomorrow, am sure it’ll go well 🙂 xx

Sylvestra i love choc rice cakes, and the caramel ones, and the all the other flavours 🙂 hope it goes ok with keeping to your TDEE numbers xx

LittleDragon i hope your fast day has gone well too, we are nearly there!! 😉 xx

Hello all. Thank goodness this day is nearly over – not because of my fasting day but because work was AWFUL today! Anyway, back at home now in my PJs and about to have some dinner.

Strangely, I’ve not really felt that hungry at all today – had half of a Wartburtons Thin slice this afternoon around 1.30pm with a triangle of laughing cow cheese and two slices of cooked chicken breast which was 100 calories and then planned to have the other at some point during the afternoon, but didn’t end up having the other half with another cheese triangle and two slices of chicken breast. Then I picked up a few bits and pieces for dinner tomorrow and I think for the first time ever, I got home and wasn’t falling through the door to make dinner and shove it down my throat. I’m still just killing time before having dinner. Not sure where my appetite has gone but I’m certainly not complaining!

Hope everyone who is fasting tomorrow has a good day!

Angie – sorry to hear you felt irritable, hope Friday is a better fast day for you.
Hilly – it wasn’t me who had the success with the dress unfortunately, it was JFitzy! Thank you though!

Have a good evening everybody, great chatting today! x

    @angie090465

Hi Angie – I love the snackajacks chocolate chip and the caramel rice cakes. The ones I’ve had today were Kallo – they’ve got chocolate on one side (like choccy digestives) – you can get them in milk or plain. They’re a decent size and 56 cals each. Great for a low cal ‘choccy fix’.

I have more of a problem eating above my BMR so there’s plenty of room for a couple of rice cakes!! 😀 I’m 150cal above BMR today so that’s a bonus.

Hope you feel better tomorrow and the doggies get ‘happy mum’ back.

    Evening everyone,

oops sorry LittleD and Jfitzy, hope your evening went well JFitzy and LittleD I bet if you tried on a dress it would be looking good and feeling better already 🙂

Angie OMG you had the grouches too?!!! Maybe sometimes fasting makes us grouchy, I was truly horrible yesterday!! (Look out world I’m fasting again tomorrow!!!)

Have avoided any kind of chocolate snacks, as I haven’t really craved any chocolate, food yes, chocolate no, which is fortunate as I’m not very good at stopping at just the one.

When not fasting though I have indulged if I felt like it; the Sunday before last I was on my own (kids spend alternate weekends at their Dad’s), went shopping for the week, caught up with things and then went to a local deli and bought a big piece of chocolate fudge cake and thoroughly enjoyed it with a cup of tea, whilst reading my book, nom nom nom and I didn’t feel even a tiny bit guilty – had had a healthy breakfast (muesli with skimmed milk) and had a salad later on that day for my evening meal. I felt in control and it felt good!!

Right bed for me, ready to fast tomorrow!!

Is it March 7th yet LittleDragon?!!!

Night all and hope tomorrow is a good day for you all.

    x

    Hi guys,
I have trouble remembering that the name of this thread is 2nd week of fasting and thus quickly finding everyone’s comments. I’m in I believe week 3 but it might be four…definitely overdid on valentine’s day but fasting within the next 24 hrs helped me feel more in control, I like that feature of the FD very much. I enjoy reading about your foods and grocery stores (I’m in US- Connecticut) but every time I see M&S I read it as M&M’s….you know those drug-like candies…for me they are like crack in terms of unleashing sugar addiction. I’m doing Monday and Thurs this week- not finding the actual fast days themselves hard but the day before I have a sense of dread….even tho I know being a bit hungry isn’t the end of the world….it’s about not wanting to go into sabotage binge mode for me. So far what I fear has not happened..so I hope that with time this will be less and less of a psychological big deal. Time to watch the Olympics– gosh I hope they’re not covering curling again…hope I haven’t offended anyone but I love the sports where I can admire those amazingly fit Lycra clad men (cross country skiing! Speed skating too).
    Best wishes to all…..

hi all! well, I’ve made it through the day of fasting. looking forward to a nice breakfast tomorrow.

    Morning all!

@hilly66 – I do the same on the weekends – I let myself have what I want but I find that I don’t feel the need to keep eating and eating just for the sake of it, like I used to. For example, last weekend I had a massive pizza for dinner in Saturday but I went to the gym on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday I also had pizza and Thai food in the evening, then was really good on my Monday non-fast day and fasted on Tuesday. I suppose it’s all about balance really! As long as you feel good and are still enjoying your food that’s the main thing.

Also – I stared longingly at my scales this morning, fighting all temptation to jump on them to have a sneaky look but I RESISTED! I am on track to hold fire until March 7th – no cheating! The temptation was unbelievable. Good luck with your fast today, wishing you a great day and hope those kids behave themselves haha.

@simsbury – sorry, I know, I started this thread just to say hi while I was in my 2nd week of fasting – but it seems like it’s become a quickly out of date title for this thread! Sorry! I wish I could change it to something else so people could find it more easily! Haha – I love watching curling as well, you are not the only one! I’m also a HUGE fan of M&Ms, I’m a little worried for my diet already for when I go to the USA in May; we don’t have peanut butter M&Ms here and I absolutely LOVE them!

@kilda – well done on making it through yesterday – one down, one to go! I just had my breakfast – HUGE bowl of fresh fruit, mango, raspberries, strawberries, pomegranete seeds and blueberries. Nice and colourful and really yummy.

Have a good day everyone! x

    Hi everybody!!

hope you are all ok, survived fast day yesterday phew 🙂

Simsbury I know what you mean about M&S hehe, peanut ones mmmmm but I never eat them lol, far too sugary and as you say they would unleash a nasty monster if I did 🙂

the feeling of dread is natural, I still get it and I have been fasting since july last year… but on the day I feel calm and just go with the motions 🙂 you will get used to it the more fasts you do!

LittleDragon well done on hiding from scales 🙂 see, its not that hard now is it? hehehe

Have a lovely day fab fasters :-)xxx

    Hello everybody

I am delighted to say that after my black dress success yesterday I was extremely good at the dinner last night. I did have some wine but did eat the lightest and smallest dishes! I had another NSV (non-scales victory) this morning when I put on a pair of jeans and noticed that my muffin top has definitely decreased yeah!!!

I hope that the scales will be kind to me next week BUT I have to say I don’t really care as my clothes are fitting so much better and it is how you look and feel not what you weigh me thinks!

Fasting today – soup for lunch and a big salad for dinner (well the sun is shining today so I can pretend it is nearly summer).

Hope you all had a good fasting day yesterday and good luck to all who are fasting today.

LittleDragon – I knew the lure of receiving CW’s from me would stop you jumping on the scales before 7 March – well done you!! 🙂 x

    Great stuff JFitzy!!

    have a lovely day x

    Thanks Angie you too x

Hello Angie and JFitzy; yay for us Angie for yesterday and good luck JFitzy today on your fast.

Also JFitzy, great news about last night, I am sure you looked fabulous and I’m really impressed with your food choices. I find eating out and making good choices the hardest part of being good… I am always really tempted by anything cheesy, carby or meaty! (i.e. will never go for a salad unfortunately!) when I am at home, I am fine though. JFitzy you will have to give me some of your motivation to make good choices when eating out. Believe me, the two thoughts that crossed my mind when I was about to jump on the scales was “I can’t cheat on the pact with Hilly66 and what about the curly wurlys?!” Hahaha!

Happy fasting, do let us know how it goes! xx

    Hi everyone,

@jfitzy wow what self control, while you were out – bet it felt good. Shame we can’t post pictures on here, we could share our fabulous moments and fabulous food. I’m fasting like you today – did eat breakfast (fat free natural yohurt and 100g ASDA frozen summer fruits and a slice of ham), since I seemed to be an evil witch on Monday when I went without it!! Going ok so far!!

@littledragon – my daughter has rearranged the bathroom, so the scales are tantalisingly tempting under the bathroom sink, they did call me but I resisted (just!!!) However when I put my coloured jeans on today, I discovered I can no longer wear them without a belt, so something good must be happening!! Fingers crossed anyway!

Angie you’re amazing at giving everyone so much support and encouragement, hope your day is going well too.

Simsbury – isn’t it great chatting to each other across the pond? Sorry we’re all torturing you with the “M&Ms” talk, buy a small pack for a non-fasting day and then just enjoy them.

Right back to my mug of apple and cinnamon fruit tea, not my favourite but I bought a whole box, so persevering!!

    Til later x

    Have a good day Hilly66!

something good is defo happening lol, your body is changing shape 🙂 what better incentive to keep you going!!

hope your day goes well, half way already 🙂 xx

Hi Hilly66 glad to know there are a few of us out there on 500 today! I was just thinking the same thing myself that it would be great if we could post profile pictures – maybe the administrator will read this and sort it out:)

I am holding off having my soup until around 3pm because as soon as I break my fast I end up feeling really hungry!

    Have a good day 🙂

I’m so impressed with those of you avoiding the scales. I just can’t do it right now – avoiding the food is hard enough!

I haven’t had breakfast yet and am thinking about fasting again today. I normally do Tues and Thurs but we’re taking a friend out to a birthday dinner tomorrow so I need to change days. I know 2 consecutive days is tough but I’ve been up a couple hours and not hungry yet so maybe I’ll just go for it. Then I won’t have to fast Friday or the weekend.

You all got me thinking about peanut M&M’s yesterday so I had some. 4 of them to be exact. 32 calories. They were delicious.

Hilly66 – good on you for resisting the scales, I am proud of you, especially because I know just how much temptation I had to fight this morning. I might have to hide my scales in a cupboard somewhere so I don’t catch sight of them everyday… out of sight out of mind (perhaps) but at least I won’t have the temptation of looking at them staring back at me everyday! Amazing news about the jeans, you must be chuffed. I am wearing a work dress I used to wear a lot at work before Christmas, it doesn’t have any give to it at atll, and I used to notice that when I sat downm it would be so restrictive around my tummy around but today I’m not noticing that at all! Something good is happening! Yay! Go us!

Angie – how is your day going? What have you had for your regular eating day? How are the dogs today?

JFitzy – you are so impressive doing not only 3 fasts a week but back back – 2 weeks ago when I did Mon, Tues & Thurs, I really suffered on Thurs so I’m backing you this week! You can do it! I’ll be joining you tomorrow. I’ve got a meeting 4.30-6.30 and wont’ get home til about 7 so will have to think carefully about when I will be eating.

Kilda – I love that you can just change the days if you can’t fit them in – I normally do Monday fasts but I went out for dinner Monday and I’m cooking dinner for my sister tonight, hence fasting Tues & Thurs this week. Best of luck with the fast if you decide to go with it today! M&Ms are the BEST!

Have a good day everyone, fast day is fun day! (Did I go too far?!)

    Afternoon all!

hope everyone is having a good day, and those fasting, almost there!!

LittleDragon thank you for asking hun, I had WW spinach small quiche for lunch, yummy! some chocolates 🙂

not sure about this evening yet.. such a good feeling though isn’t it when you know you can eat what you fancy lol ( sorry fasters!)

just been on second walk with the dogs, I can’t believe how sunny and mild it is out there!!
watching a film now, I like horror movies, I know this sounds weird but I do!! only in the afternoon though with my doggies nearby and never at night hahaha!!!

hope you are having a good day too! and brilliant about the dress, its the 5.2 magic I call it!! if you like you can send us the lock to your scales hiding place and we’ll send it back to you in march 🙂 at least into cyberspace anyway hehe!!

    Catch up soon xxxx

Just re-read my post and saw so many typos, sorry about that everyone – also just thought I would let you know that even though it’s not a fast day today, I’ve decided to give the Slim Noodles a go and have that with my bolognese instead of a carb heavy pasta – saves on calories and carbs – I will report back once I have tried it.

Good for you LittleDragon and don’t worry about the typos, I do loads lol 🙂 xx

    Wow we’re all amazing!!

Fasting going ok – can’t say I appreciated the Boursin advert halfway through neighbours!! Mmmmm bread and Boursin oh and a glass of wine!! Oh stop it head!!

That dress sounds pretty dam good LittleDragon, such a good feeling when “stand up only clothes” still feel good sitting down 🙂

Take my hat off to all of you 3 dayers – 2 is enough for me!! In fact am finding it tough this week not being at work, nothing to take my mind off of food!!!! I am hungry right now – more fruit tea (lol and more trips to the little girl’s room!!). @jfitzy hope you make it to soup o’clock! And Kilda did you go for it in the end?

I love the flexibility of the fasting too, I normally do Mondays and Thursdays but have switched to Monday and Wednesday as am meeting friends for lunch tomorrow. It sure beats counting points or red days, green days or orange days and counting sins (have tried most things!!).

Have an urge to steal my son’s ham sandwich (and I don’t even like white bread!) Aggghhhhhh!!!

PS Not feeling the fun just at this hunger panged moment LittleDragon! But it will surely pass 🙂

Here’s a silly Weight Watchers slogan for you all – “nothing tastes as good as slim feels!!” + much more importantly healthy 🙂

Never too far LittleDragon! Well done on the dress success – it is obviously dress week for the both of us!! 🙂

Angie – Good to hear you’re having a better day than yesterday Angie! I used to love scary films when I was younger and I’d watch them with my brother but now they just freak me out! Would love you to all lock away my scales until March 7th, perhaps that’s what I need to avoid them. It’s that classic “can’t have it so want it more” problem I’m experiencing right now! I will hide them the second I get home though!

Hilly66 – Sounds like you’re just as much of a cheese fiend as I am – I love LOVE cheese. But at the risk of sending you into overdrive on a fast day let’s not discuss it anymore! You can have whatever you like tomorrow! Yesterday I picked up Twinings Raspberry and Cranberry fruit tea and gave it a go today – it’s pretty good – a sweet edge and a bit tart because of the cranberry – give it a go? You might like it! Also I know some people find the opposite, but I find chewing gum helps on a fast day to get rid of the funny taste in my mouth if I’ve not eaten. I also swear by the trick of brushing my teeth to stop me from wanting food.

The hunger pang will pass – as Mosley said, hunger doesn’t grow, it comes in waves, and it will go soon enough, just drink lots of fluid and ignore it!

Nothing tastes as good as slim feels… (except crisps, chocolate and cheese for Little Dragon 🙁 haha)

Sorry JFitzy I forgot to reply – yes! Feels good to be fitting into clothes a lot better – I’m really happy! Had quite a few compliments today which has helped! Hope you’re having a fan-fast-tic day (I think I definitely went too far there)

I am in my third week of fasting, having completed 6 fasts. Kudos to whoever suggested saving up calories for a hot chocolate before going to bed! I had a no fat hot chocolate and at 20 calories, plus 8 for a quarter cup of almond milk, it was quite tasty.

Too bad I couldn’t stay asleep last night, but that goes with the territory.

Now for the challenge of limiting what I eat on my 2 non-fast days — I can’t eat everything in sight and still lose weight! I have little sense of what my body needs.

Almost there, not for me, it’s not even 10 am here, grumble grumble.

Angie, what kind of dogs do you have? I have two, which are mutts or what a friend of mine used to call “basic brown dogs.” If the sidewalks ever stop being icy I need to start taking them for more long walks.

Good puns LittleDragon! I am currently tucking into my delicious soup nomnom 🙂

Amy C, I’ve found that as I go along with the diet, it gets much easier to limit what I eat on non-fast days. My appetite is less, I get full faster, and I have finally (after years of struggling with this) got the ability to just stop when I’m full.

One thing that helps me is rather than focusing on what not to eat, I focus on what I should eat. So instead of thinking, ooh, I want that cake, but it has tons of calories, I think, I haven’t had much fiber today (or protein, or whatever), what can I have that will give me that. This keeps me full with healthy food, and less in the mindset of depriving myself. (and if I really want the cake, I still have it, and try to enjoy every bite of it).

I like your way of thinking Kilda!! 🙂

Kilda – I was just noticing that today — it’s not a fast day yet I was not hungry and so decided not to eat. So simple – don’t eat just because it’s mealtime, or it’s what I brought for lunch….I’m not hungry so don’t eat. I am actually under 500 cal. so guess I could keep it going and not eat dinner but I was a good wife/mother (I so rarely am) and put together a crock pot meal that will be ready when I get home. Still, who says I have to eat it just because it’s there? If I’m not hungry and just go for it – voila my 2nd fast day will be done for the week. But, I have decided that if hunger comes on, I will eat dinner and have this be a normal day. I’m really wanting to keep learning about eating by how my body feels rather than what my sugar addiction and/or diet mentality or inner rebel (there is a whole chorus of voices in my head) says. I am seeing how transformative this 5:2 can be…

    Hi Kilda

Sorry didnt see your post until now! I have two rescue dogs, Rory my little boy who’s 18 months and Tilly ,my big girl who is almost 5 now.. Love them to bits, Rory is a blue staffy and Tilly is a staffy cross, wish i could post a few pics but not sure how on here?
They are such loving loyal dogs, and such a damn shame they get all the bad press because of the minority out there who breed them illegaly 🙁 for all the wrong reasons.. I love all dogs me, and animals anyway!!

Hope your fast day has gone well, and enjoy your normal one tomorrow lol!!

Have a good evening everybody 🙂 xx

    Simsbury:

I did the same thing on Sunday of this week. I ate when I was hungry, instead of at the scheduled time. However, I didn’t count it as a fast day. I have those scheduled for later in the week.

We always have dinner at our house. Fortunately, I cook only on weekends. We have left overs or the husband cooks during the week.

    Morning all

How did everyone find their fast yesterday? Anyone fasting like I am today? I know JFitzy will be…

Had a horrible morning at work already 🙁 feeling a bit down about this day but hopefully if I have a good fast day then that’ll be a small victory.

Last night I made spaghetti bolognese for dinner for the family, and they had spaghetti as usual but I had slim noodles instead, even though it wasn’t a fast day for me, I thought I may as well save some calories and try out the slim noodles – they weren’t bad at all and it was nice not to feel completely stuffed at the end of the meal and subject myself to a carb overload! It meant that I could have a small piece of garlic bread without feeling bad about it! I’ve got some sauce left over from yesterday I intend to have with the slim noodles again tonight for my fast day dinner. I read somewhere online that a cup of meat bolognese sauce is about 280 calories.

Right well best get cracking, hope everyone has had a better start to the day than me!

Morning LittleDragon and the rest of the gang 🙂

hey sorry you had a bad start of the day, hope it improves for you hun, and whoever upset you is a *&)(&^*(%(_+

have a good day, well done for fasting again today, mine is tomorrow…

your dinner sounds yummy 🙂 xx

Thanks Angie – just one of those days where you feel like you put everything in to your work and you can’t please anyone 🙁 least of all the people in charge!

Ah well, thanks for the support Angie 🙂 really appreciated. Hope you have a good day too with the dogs and any scary movies you watch! Haha! 🙂 xx

Morning all – hope all is well. I had another good fast day yesterday and I am up for another one today – 3 this week!!

I am saving my points for tonight as I am going to have a small bowl of chilli and rice (all counted of course!).

LittleDragon – sorry you are not having a good start to your day I am sure it will improve – not long now to the weekend.

I was thinking maybe we should start a new thread called 2 Months In or something as this thread is getting very unwieldy!! What do you think all of you 🙂

    Hi JFitzy!

I think you are right lol, and gosh well done for doing a third fast today!! you go girl 🙂

    have a fab one :-)x

Hello JFitzy and Angie – can’t wait for the weekend, have you got anything nice lined up?

JFitzy that’s a great suggestion, I will start a new thread now!

Hope you smash your third fast day, well done you! x

Hi Little Dragon, I’ve been taking a couple of XLS after a fatty meal (not the approved dose which is 2 x 3 per day)- naughty me LOL. Anyway I have lost 41lbs in about 10 days. I am walking to work every day (about a mile) and eating salads and sushi mainly. I feel very good. I personally would recommend them to supplement the 5:2 if you are diabetes free. Kind regards Debbie

i am just starting my second week of fasting. I have only lost one pound this last week. I really want this to work but I am afraid my age is against me. I am 51 and work at a desk for 10 hours. I need some feedback on anyone that may have the same issues.

    Hi clova and welcome:

I’m not sure what your ‘issues’ are? The average weight loss on 5:2 is about a pound a week, so your weight loss is right on schedule.

    Here are some tips: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

Hello well done you that is great that you lost. I am just starting today and I am 5.2 and weigh 10 stone. I am small framed and have crept up a dress size and put on around my stomach. I have a holiday in June so hope to get slim. Your post has shown it can be done. Keep up the good work

Hi Ibiza good luck with your weight loss journey, I am also 5.2 and started my journey at 11.3 which was far too big for my frame. i got down to 10 stone in May but ended up gaining again back to 11 stone and now I’m half way back at 10.7

    Good luck!
