  • Hi, I’ve been trying to lose weight since January and everything that I’ve tried just doesn’t seem to work, so have been reading up about the 5:2 but how successful is the diet? Does anyone recommend starting this diet and how much weight roughly do people lose a week / month etc, feeling very confused and lost with diets at the moment!

This is the first diet that totally works for me, though I prefer to not think of it as a diet. I’ve lost 40 lbs since September and have been maintaining for several months. My weight loss varied from week to week, averaging at least a pound a week. I approached fasting for the health benefits and viewed weight loss as a bonus. This helped enormously. Give it a go you may be pleasantly surprised.

This nutrition plan works well and potentially provides some unique health benefits. Your fat loss will vary depending upon how many days a week you fast, how much you eat on non fast days and how active you are.

Like any nutrition plan you actually have to do it for it to work. I’m a successful long term fat loser (70 lbs over 20 years) these are key things that have helped me:

Plan for success, schedule healthy meals and exercise. Clear out your pantry of unhealthy junk and binge foods. Buy healthy foods to have on hand. minimize prepared and junk food. Participate in group support like this site. Be active and exercise.

    Good luck!

I wouldn’t say it works for everyone, but it worked for me. I lost ~50lbs in 9 months doing 3 fast days per week. I’ve maintained that, by continuing to fast, for over a year. I’ve been successful on other diets before, but always put the weight back on because I never had a maintenance plan ready for when I reached my goal weight, and probably also because they weren’t sustainable.

At least at first, I noticed this diet changed what I ate on non-fast days, as well as fast days. I just couldn’t eat very much without getting stomach cramps. That definitely helped for weight loss, because I couldn’t binge on non-fast days. I kept a food diary, too, though didn’t count calories on non-fast days.

My advice: give it a try. Stick with it for a month–fasting takes some time to get used to. Good luck!

Same here! I tried every diet there is, exercised to death, with only a meager result. This plan changed my life! Down 14 lbs in 6 weeks.
