  • Hey everyone,

Im new on the 5:2 bandwagon – I first heard about it about a year ago but wasn’t in the right mind frame (committed/ready) to make a change.

Recently I got some news about my health (PCOS) and its really given me the push I need to snap out of my ‘funk’ and do something about my health.

The past week i’ve been actively making healthier choices while looking into other life style options that would suit me and am 1.1kg down just by calorie counting with the help of ‘my fitness pal’.

I looked into intermittent fasting & also the 5:2 a little more and have considered combining both.

    Has anyone else done this?

I’ve got a huge amount to loose (36.6kg – 80.6lb) and am the kind of person who needs to see results on the scale ASAP or my motivation goes out the window.

I was going to try doing intermittent fasting either 5-7 of the days while staying under my ‘maintenance’ calorie allowance & of course adding the 2 500cal days in there too.

    Would love input! 🙂

@laney.G – Congrats! And welcome. I too heard about this about a year ago when I first watched the BBC Horizon Documentary. But did I heed the science of fasting and weight loss? No. I spent the next year eating LCHF/Paleo/Atkins/whatchmacallit and got fed up, frustrated and depressed. I don’t know how I found this again, but this time I guess I was ready to hear it and decided to give it a go.
I decided, that based on all of previous “dieting” and giving up if I didn’t see the scale move down fast, I wouldn’t weight myself for a while. I did take my starting belly measurement, and 30 days later I took another measurement and I was very pleased with the results.
And all this by not even really counting the calories. I guesstimate that on fast days (M-W-F) I restrict severely enough compared to my non fast days that naturally create a calorie deficit. And I am ok with that approach, for now and maybe always.
What I have found here is that this WOE is my journey and no one else’s and it is working for me without being restricting.

So, good luck with your journey to health. Looking forward to reading about your progress.

Thats great to hear you’re seeing results.

This life style just seems so realistic as you can adjust your 2 ‘fast days’ to whenever suits you.

I just thought i’d pop back on to touch base anyway – i’ve been sticking with the intermittent fasting & ‘my fitness pal’ and so far have lost 3.4kg (7.4lb)

Today I did my first ‘fast day’ and went for a small walk coped really well.

Considering I only have a small window to eat my food in I was actually stuffed with a full belly all afternoon.

Fingers crossed in a weeks time I see even better results after combining the two 🙂
