  • Hi everyone,

I’m new to Fast Diet and just want to say hello. I’ve read through many posts and all of you have been very inspirational to me. I completed my first fast this past Tuesday. It was tough but doable and is something I think I can sustain. After I went through menopause at 50 I’ve found it extremely difficult to lose weight even though I run and exercise 3-4 times a week and eat fairly well. I’m hoping that 5:2 Fast Diet will re-kick start my metabolsim so I can lose 30 lbs. Again I really appreciate all of your comments – it’s nice to know I’m not alone.

My wife and I started 3 weeks ago and are doing well. Both lost about 5 pounds but we are more interested in improving our bio-markers. Looks like win-win. I recommend including lots of water on your fast day. I love the effect of warm water with fresh lemon juice. Provides other health benefits. It kills hunger pains.
Wish you the best in your endeavors.

Hi ms.bindy, I’ve just found this site today and think its brilliant, its lovely to get help and support from everyone. I started the fast at the beginning of January and have lost about 7lb so far. I have about 28lb to lose. Feel spurred on now I have found everybody! Good luck to everyone. x

    Hi Ms.Bindy!

You and I appear to be in the same boat! I’m 55(just today!) and went thru early menopause at around 40. I started 5:2 Jan 5 and am averaging less than a 1/2 lb per week! It’s hard not to become disillusioned! I, too, would like to lose about 30 lbs., but I fear it is going to take me a LONG time. I do boot camp sessions 3-4 times a week and fast on Mondays and Thursdays. Once the weather breaks, I’m going to do a bit of running 3 days a week as well. I think my biggest problem is eating too much on weekends when I’m out of my workaday routine.

I wish you luck with 5:2 and a speedier weight loss that I have experienced!

    Hello all,
I have been following threads for a month now, and this looks like the one to jump into.
I am 56 (oh, Happy Birthday, Lori!)
I just finished four weeks of fasting. I love this way of eating.
The first week, I did 5:2. The next three weeks, I have done 4:3. My fast days are Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday. I have lost 5.5 pounds, which is wonderful, but the best thing is how I feel. Amazing! So much energy.
I work out six days a week, alternating running & biking (indoors right now, in this cold weather). I also do a cross fit / insanity-style class three days a week. So, I am active. With all of that, it is tough to keep the weight off.
I would like to lose another seven pounds, but these are the same 7-10 pounds I have been battling for 30 years. I am hoping to do it this time, and make this a lifestyle change to sustain it. I believe that is the key.
I look forward to giving & receiving support.

    Hi everyone
I’m into my second week and am happy to report that I lost 2.4 lbs after the first week! I’m fasting on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. I weighed myself last Friday morning and weighed exactly the same when I got on the scale this morning, so that seems to tell me that I need to carefully watch what I’m eating on non-fasting days. I’m fasting today and haven’t done so well (I had a piece of pizza which is my downfall), but may do 4:3 this week and see how that goes.

Lemon52 thanks for the suggestion of warm water with lemon juice. I will definitely give that a try.

Jude63 good for you on losing 7 lbs! It’s really helpful to have the support provided at this website! People here are kind and supportive.

LoriPA – Happy Birthday! Yes, sounds like we are in a similar place. I know boot camp is really a great class. It’s tough to lose weight after menopause, but hang in there and keep at it! I’m going to try 4:3 on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday and see if that speeds up the weight loss. I know I also need to carefully watch what I’m eating on non-fast days as I can go way overboard.

Terry58 – Sounds like you are doing great and if you keep at it those last lbs should fall away. I did like how I felt the days after fasting – I felt lighter and less bloated, but I would love to have more energy. I need to give the process more time.

    Cheers

    Hello…
I didn’t do so well last week with my fast days so …this is a new week
with a new start. I wish I could do the 4:3…the 5:2 is hard enough, I give you all credit!!
tomorrow is my weigh in day…today I am fasting, fingers crossed.
I find that by not eating anything until evening meal works best for me.

Terry58 it’s good to hear how much you exercise on the program, I am active too,
training for another 1/2 marathon next month and a triathlon after that..I always have worried re: not enough in the tank with the endurance sports, I have been fasting on my swim days for now. (we have had nice weather here in Northern Cal…so cycling and running outside has been wonderful- but we will pay for it during fire season with NO water !!!)

I have that stubborn 10 pounds too 🙁

If anyone would like to start a small facebook group let me know…I don’t always check this website, but I love to hear from like minded folks…btw I’m 57
take care everyone and good luck this week,
    Virginia

Virginia, I am not a Facebook person. Good luck with that, though. I know a lot of people do it.
You do triathlons and half marathons! I do, too. I have done around ten sprint triathlons and one Olympic length. I will begin training in April, and am wondering how this way of eating will work then. I hope to be in maintenance by then. “Hope” being the key word.
I lost another half-pound. That makes six pounds in five weeks. Not setting the world on fire, but it is coming off. It is so nice to be able to pull on a pair of jeans, and they are loose.
Ms.bindy, I have heard and read about lemon juice in warm water. It is a natural remedy for many ailments. I have to admit I’ve tried it, but can’t keep it up.
I hope your 4:3 this week is going well. Hang in there. You can eat tomorrow. 🙂
Lori, how is it going? I’ve read other posts which said they started off slow, then after several weeks, the loss kicked in. Perhaps that will happen for you. Are you experiencing any other benefits from this way of eating, besides weight loss?
I find that I wake up now with a clear head, where I used to be groggy in the morning. I think that was from sugar.
I like to think that I am doing this for both the inside and the outside of my body. As well as the mental, now that I think about it. If I make a promise to myself to fast today, the self-discipline of carrying through with that promise will help me in other aspects of my life.
    Just my two cents….. 🙂

Sorry all. I have been remise in posting. Sadly, I’ve gained the 2 lbs I lost back although I have been fasting 5:2. I’m not ready for the 4:3 yet. I think I’m overeating on non fast days, so I need to dial that back. I exercise just about every day. That doesn’t seem to make too much of a difference, but I will continue on! I’ve given up adding almond milk to my coffee and am drinking more green tea. I haven’t tried the warm lemon water yet. Every little bit should help right?

I also bought the 5:2 Fast Diet book for beginners, so I’m going to start using some of the recipes for fast and non fast days. My challenge is I’m visiting my sister in Mpls and it’s restaurant week. Yikes!
We are both foodies and are going out to dinner today and tomorrow. Today is my fasting day so I’ll not eat until dinner tonight and will try to eat something lower in calories. I feel like I may be setting myself up for failure here, but will try to control myself :). Anyway it’s a new day . . . hope all is going well for everyone else.

Yes, we must soldier on! I, too, eat too much on my “eating” days, especially weekends. I’m not weighing now until March 1st and will see where I am. An every 2 week weigh in will be my plan for now.

I find the fast days quite easy. Just need to get a handle on the “eating” days!
