  • Hi, just started with my first fast day yesterday. I’ve been logging what I eat using My Fitness Pal and thought I was doing not bad (total of 585kc ) until about 8.30pm when I was ravenous. Tried eating a pickled gherkin and some salad but still hungry so I caved in and had 30g of brie and 20g of cheddar plus a couple of dried apricots. I’ve added them onto my log and now I’m at 725 or almost 50% over what I should be. Is this normal and should I be able to do better as time goes on?

Hi, I started Monday, with a fast day, which I didn’t find too bad, had a problem getting to sleep, not sure if that’s relevant. Yesterday normal day and back on fast today, I did find even just having 25g of porridge with skimmed milk did help, give it a try if your hungry, cheers

Hi, Colliewobble, I have already had 4 fast days and I have never been over 480kc. It seems to help me to only eat in the morning and in the evening, when I nibble on snacks I can’t seem to stop or feel really full.

I would suggest cutting out the brie and cheddar, those have a lot of calories and won’t leave you very satisfied. I find beans very satisfying and I also have vegetable broth (made from powder) and that gives me a feeling of fullness. I try to avoid dried fruits during my fasting days because they do have a lot of sugar, I prefer eating a small clementine or a slice of melon.

I am also a big fan of herbal tea, so during my fast days I have about 6 cups of different flavors to keep my mind off food, mint, red berries, ginger, lemongrass keep my mind busy over food

250kc over your goal is too much and you shouldn’t expect to see fast results unless you really keep them below 500.

    Hope this helps!

Welcome! Today is another day, and so is tomorrow. Presuming you are female you should stay under 500 calories on your fast days. I stay well under to allow room for error. Some people choose not to eat at all. I use myfitnesspal too and find it helps tot everything up. Good luck!

Oh and try cottage cheese, a couple of tablespoons come under 30kc and are super satisfying!

Jaclyn, the sleep thing is in fact related to the fasting, It happened to me too the first two days, I opted for the warm vegetable broth around 9pm to fool my body and it worked!

Thanks for the advice, I went for the cheese as I was trying to stay low-carb so the cottage cheese sounds like a good idea, I’ll get some today. I’ve also got some miso soup mix in the cupboard so I might try that too.
