  • I am 54 years old and married to a beekeeping tattoo artist. We have been married for almost 33 years and are blessed to still be smitten with each other. I was diagnosed with macular degeneration 6 years ago and am slowly going blind. I have made the decision to lose the extra 75 pounds I am carrying so I can safely navigate through the rest of my life. I am nervous to be entering my senior years being so fat and going blind. I am afraid of tripping and falling. I know I have to lose it now and then start exercising to get strong. I hate the idea of being a burden to my family.

I have read most of the book, saw the documentary and plan to do my first fast day this coming Wednesday. Wish me luck!

Welcome, Miss Marjorie! This forum is the place to be if you want advice, encouragement and ideas 🙂 I’ve been doing 5:2 since mid-June, and have found it very easy to work into my daily life. Good luck for Wednesday! 🙂

    Hello Marjorie,

those are very good reasons to go on the 5:2 lifestyle!
So today is wednesday and this should be your first day… so, how are you doing?
I am 40 and also have bad issues with my eyes since I am 20, very short-sighted, retinal detachments, and so on… my macular is still fine, I am very glad about that.
I am sorry that you are going to be blind…you cannot change this fact so it’s great you pepare!
    GOOD LUCK!

Thank you Anni and Gin. I had my days mixed up and did my first fast day yesterday. It went well. I ate two meals, no snacks, and had exactly 500 calories. It was hard for about 2 hours before my evening meal but doable. I really am looking forward to dropping some weight and being able to move more freely. I hope it improves my balance as well.
Anni having low vision and being rolly polly don’t mix so something has to be done. I hope you are doing well on your diet.
    Marjorie

    Hey Marjorie,

congrats on your first day! Mine is today…
I am sure you will see results soon, this diet seems to work as I can see from reports.
When will your next fasting day be?

I think the nex best day for me will be on Saturday. The days I fast will change from week to week. I work 12 hours shifts in a call center and sit tethered to my desk. I don’t think I can do this when I am at work because I can’t keep busy enough to keep my mind off of it. My intention is to only fast on my days off and find projects or crafts to keep me busy, busy, busy! I make and sell handcrafted soap so I guess I will stock up on my fast days!

Oh man am I so happy. My weight is down 1.9 pounds! Today is my second fast day but I should say for a week before starting the 5:2 I fasted for 16 hours a day for a solid week. I am sure it had some bearing on the weight loss. Yippiiiiii

WOW! I am down 4.4 pounds in 7 days! How is that possible. I have fasted, eaten exactly 500 calories, for only 2 days. I am walking a little each day with my dog but I really mean a little. Maybe 6 or 7 minutes. I can’t even begin to tell you all how excited I am that this works so well and is sooooo doable.

Congrats Marjorie! Keep it up!! And so glad you found some days that work well for fasting. I’m able to fast at work luckily…I pick my two busy days durning the week as I know I will be focused on work rather then my tummy :). I hope this upcoming week is great for you!
